As we near Diablo 4's upcoming Xbox release, Blizzard is starting to talk specifics about what we can all expect from the game come launch day - June 6th, 2023. Of course, one specific that fans will be eager to learn about is the exact frame rate and resolution the game will run at on their console of choice. In a recent episode of Major Nelson's Xbox podcast, Diablo 4 General Manager Rod Fergusson revealed just that.
Fergusson spoke about the game's upcoming launch and how it will perform across Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles. Here are the launch day targets:
- Diablo 4 Xbox Series X: Full 4K at 60FPS
- Diablo 4 Xbox Series S: 1080p at 60FPS
While the figures are not all that surprising, we're happy to see confirmation regardless, and a full 60FPS frame rate across both Xbox Series X and Series S is always nice to see.
Back in March, we went hands-on with the Xbox version of Diablo 4 during its recent beta test, and we were very impressed by how the game translated to Xbox consoles. We'll drop that in-depth preview down below.
Are you happy with these numbers? Planning on grabbing Diablo 4 on day one? Let us know!

I’m still torn on whether to get this on Series X or PS5? 🤔 one advantage on XSX is “quick resume”, which may swing it.
I am not planning on getting this day 1 as I am not the biggest fan of these type of games - in fact I have never 'finished' any of the main stories let alone all the other stuff.
This is the type of game I'd pick up in a sale to 'check it out' or wait for it to come to any 'sub' service - Gold, PS+ or Game Pass so I don't expect D4 to convince me to 'buy' day 1.
Let's hope the servers don't implode so you can play it on day one
@Nightcrawler71 I find quick resume doesn't work too well with on line titles and I have to restart them anyway.
@Nightcrawler71 i doubt it will work well with Quick Resume like other games with internet connection needed. You'll still spend some time reconnecting from the starting screen.
@Nightcrawler71 i am slightly torn on that as well as all my friends are on PS5, i normally game on Xbox, but lately been on PS5 as Xbox has nothing at the moment for me to play. If i get this on PS5 it will take loads of hours off my Series X as i will be playing this daily for years as i have with other Diablo games.
@Green-Bandit D4 is crossplatform. So you can play with friends on the Ps5 even if you're playing it on Xbox or PC.
...and a whopping 40fps on PS5...
No, 120FPS performance mode?
@JaffeGaffe Yeah for 120hz screens providing the 40fps option is there otherwise its the same as SX.
Gonna look damn good in 60fps on the Xscreen. Hellzya
Lets hope it finally runs better on xsx 12tf, i would prefer 1440p60 fsr2 and 120hz mode
@Nightcrawler71 Pretty sure the series X has just shy of 2tflops higher than the PS5. Also, I believe the stock controller on the Xbox is more ergonomic. Choice is yours. The reason I hate on Sony so much was due to some gaming magazine back in the early 2000s had done an interview with the presidents of the Big Three (Nintendo, Xbox and Playstation) When they asked each president to comment on the competitor product, Nintendo was very graceful by complimenting the strengths of the other two products, Xbox had an equally positive comment about the competitors. But when it came to Playstation, the guy bashed Xbox into the ground. It was just petty and crude and unbecoming of the current King of Console sales at that time. I found the behavior was extremely paranoid and desperate. From that day forward, it prompted the Playstation fans to follow suit and start being g d-bags about Xbox. Always talking smack, even to this day 20 years later. Well look where we are now. Turns out Playstation was right to be paranoid. Their console is now #2 when it comes to raw power and not even on the leader board when it comes to feature set (you mentioned quick resume on xbox). The Xbox has the best offering as of writing this comment. But that same tone from 20+ years ago is still ringing from when the Playstation president had become so foul and set an example of crude behavior which the PS fanbase never grew out of. Oh well they lose. It's over. They can scream and whine to the government all they want. More than half of their most popular games will be stripped from them and become Xbox exclusives forever. They only have 10 years left to enjoy those games until they'll need to either buy an Xbox or an overpriced PC to keep playing those games. Karma.
@WallyWest oh I wasn't serious. Just making a joke about how the PS5 is no good compared to SX. That's all.
Glad to see both machines getting the 60hz option.
Shame this is not coming to GP as I might have played it then. I wont buy an Activision Blizzard game under any circumstances given how they treat their employees, so my only chance of playing this one was if the deal went through quick enough.
Not to worry, there's plenty of other games and for all those who love this, I hope its as brilliant as you want it to be.
@ZuneTattooGuy It's Blizzard, of course they will.
60fps all round. Can’t complain.
@Titntin edit: oh ignore me you answered my question in your post I reread 🤣
Definitely a PC title for me
@JaffeGaffe Yet lately games are performing better on PS5. The difference in power between them doesn't really matter as this Gen has shown and all its really got the SX is better 4K at the cost of framerate
@Titntin "I won't buy them but instead indirectly support them with GP because my morals won't stop me from playing Diablo 4 someday somehow"
@Lavalera @Moonglow yes it is cross play and i know that works just fine but i was just thinking on which controller to play it on, i like the shape of Xbox controllers before, but hate how loud the clicks are and the rounded buttons aren’t as nice as the flat quiet buttons on Sony’s. Overall I’m 80% sure i will still pre order it for Xbox. But you make an interesting point about the ABK deal, since all eyes were on COD, i wonder what MS will do with games like Diablo and others, could we see perks? Or DLC first etc etc, i think we won’t cause it will give a bad look on MS and then when they try and purchase another studio it could be used against their strategy of games on all platforms and no special treatment they have been telling everyone about. Xbox Scares me lately what they will or won’t do. Sony is pounding them again hardware wise, since Sony has figured about the chip shortage they are outselling Xbox 3-1 again, games like Diablo and others are to big to not come to PS consoles and have all the bells and whistles. Hope this changes in the future cause i would love to see MS in better position against Sony, other than just offering GP. I am not the biggest GP supporter at the moment.
@Titntin once the ABK deal goes through and the game peaks in sales, i am sure MS will add Diablo 4 to GP. So you will get to play it at some point buddy. Plus around the time you do it will actually be patched and better 😀
@WallyWest ""I won't buy them but instead indirectly support them with GP because my morals won't stop me from playing Diablo 4 someday somehow"
Yeah, that's about the size of it. If it's on GP then they get no new money from me as I'm always subbed to GP anyway. At that point, not playing the game is just harming me and not them, so I think it would be stupid to not play it in that scenario.
Sorry if that doesn't meet the 'WallyWest' morality test, but I'm not even remotely bothered by how you feel and will act as I see fit.
@Green-Bandit Thanks mate - I'm likely to wait a year or two I know, but by my age the years tumble quickly anyway..
Worst scenario is the deal doesn't go through and I'll never play it Looks pretty unlikely that will happen though..
@Titntin yeah that would stink for you and MS and ABK in general, but the deal looks like it will pass sooner than later, and that could be a ton of content hitting GP. I will likely wait a few month to let Starfield get some patches while staying on Diablo 4, then i will see if Starfield is great or not. Other than that i am waiting to see what happens at Sony and MS’s June shows. Hoping it’s more than just here a long look at Starfield and Spider-man 2. But i have a feeling that will be the bulk of it. Spoiler i just don’t get into the Marvel games much, so the whole Sony having Spider man isn’t a huge thing for me, but i know millions and millions of fan’s will be all over it and thats great. I hope Sony shows Last of Us Multiplayer and MS may or may not show a nice 2024 surprise at us i hope.
@Green-Bandit I don't even play spiderman - all that swinging makes me feel ill. Such a shame as they are great action games..
@Titntin right! Maybe I’ll give Wolverine a try. I just hate to see Insomniac be a Marvel Machine. Not that they don’t do a great job with it, cause they do. I just wish they were working on other original game ideas. I used to really like them.
@Green-Bandit I hear whispers there's a non Marvel title in the works, which may be announced at the summer show.
I was never that good a networker though, and my last game was over 15 years back, so I wouldnt bet on anything!
With Sony being so tight lipped till the deals done, its all guess work what they have coming, but I'd expect a least two big hitters this year, maybe three.
With all the amazing stuff MS are delivering this year, I don't know where I'm gonna get the time. I'm sure I'll manage
@Titntin yeah seems like 2023 is the flood gates opening on all the delayed projects. Should be a steady stream of good games from June onwards, which is great cause this Gen has been a little slow for me. Diablo 4 will eat up a lot of time for me and there are so many others, then if the rumors are true that Nintendo is closing in on a Switch 2 with a rumored Donkey Kong game, i will need to be there for that. Could be really great. Nintendo Switch is long overdue a hardware buff.
@Green-Bandit Ok, I really have to know. When you say Xbox has nothing to play, does that mean you only play very specific types of games or does it mean you have actually played through all of the thousands if not tens of thousands of games available on the platform? Or yet another option, are you one of the many people that says Xbox has nothing to play because you are only counting what has released this week?
@ZYDIO i have been with the Xbox platform since day 1, the OG to the Series X, so the back compatibility list does little to nothing for me. I don’t play strategy games so the new releases of age of empires does nothing for me, the fact they released next to nothing in 2022 exclusive wise don’t do me any favors. The tens of thousands of GP A-AA content does little for me. I mean i still play Gears 5 online, Red Dead 2 and a few others that are timeless classics to me, but that’s just it, i bought a Series X and a PS5 to play newer games that push my $2500 dollar Tv and $2k plus sound system with Dolby Atmos some to enjoy those new toys. My PS5 has been more kind to me in that sense. But i only own PS consoles for their exclusives as i have used Xbox as my daily driver since Xbox 360. So i am somewhat annoyed with Series X at the moment, but things will start to get good here soon and i will go from having nothing to play to loads of great titles. I’m not one of those gamers that say’s Xbox has no games, but in fairness the reason people make those comments are years like 2022 and certain years of the Xbox one and they have a reasonable point to their insult. Xbox at times makes itself hard to love, and yet here i am still using it as my daily driver when my PS5 is sitting there saying hey what have i done wrong? Get’s harder to not answer that questions with nothing actually. I won’t even get into the whole RedFall launching at 30FPS using Unreal 4.
@JaffeGaffe That was a lot of….something.
And all this time I thought it was about having fun and enjoying the experience. Also, if your game console is talking to you, you might wanna consult a professional.
@JaffeGaffe PS2 was #3 when it comes to raw power and we all remember how it turned out. Also feature set is a mixed bag, PS5 got haptic feedback and a faster SSD (on paper) so i would say they are pretty equal. Don't look back in anger about some comments made 20 years ago, we're gamers first
@Nightcrawler71 why wouldn’t you go for the Xbox version?
@Lavalera crossplay is only confirmed for PC and xbox atm.
Waiting for Game Pass for this one. I am expecting the FTC to drop its case by July so very close to the launch date. There is even a chance MS proceeds with the deal without the FTC's approval. Either way, I am expecting this to drop on Game Pass near the launch date so gonna hold off on buying it.
@Titntin honestly imo you're not missing much with spiderman. I was very disappointed. I don't like marvel but bought because I trusted insomniac but it was a very repetitive by the numbers... Eh. It gets the hype but don't sweat that one.
Btw how did the gt7 vr test ever go if at all?
@Green-Bandit That's a lot of hours on that edge
@NEStalgia yeah and so far i have next to zero hours on the Edge buddy HAHA, i too don’t care for Spider-Man, even tho hardcore PS fans will be claiming it to be the best game of the generation and anything that MS and Nintendo do won’t matter cause Peter Parker is slinging from building to building doing lame missions. Sorry had to take a cheap shot at that. I mean i know the production values of the game is high, and i know Spider-man is hugely popular. I just wish to see more original content coming from a highly talented dev team. But they have a cash cow and i full expect them to ride it until it’s dry.
@Nightcrawler71 and Gamepass..
@Green-Bandit It's Lego spiderman but without Legos .
I get it it's spiderman the brand itself is the main selling point as long as the game looks visually good. But it's funny that it's the icon of the so called adult gamers with adult tastes fawning over something kids have pajamas and bed sets of lol. Yeah that game.... If I were a marvel fan I'm sure I'd like it but I only bought it because I'm an insomniac fan and it was just super disappointing to me. Not their usual roller coaster of fun but a very safe, very derivative, very repetitive game. Not their best work and I hate that they're now a marvel factory with Disney overseers. I think if it had working physics it could have been more interesting. It has none. The old Activision PS2 Spider-Man game had working physics. The swinging alone just feels boring fast because you can't influence it and play with momentum and physics of swinging, it's just animations.
@NEStalgia Still waiting for my friend to bring it over! Excuses after excuses, but im hoping I'll get to try it soon:)
Id be very happy if I could gt7 it, even if I had to limit other experiences 😁
Ill let you know what happens!
@DionysoZ yeah eventually, but it won’t be on GamePass day 1, and I wanna play this day 1!
@WallyWest no they're not. Ps5 drop below 30 on many 30fps titles while xbox keeps the 30 steady. Completely inaccurate.
@dimi only the posted fanboys are holding onto it. Example set by their own president 20 years ago were never grown out of. If they weren't such paranoid trolls today, I'd have forgotten about it completely.
@JaffeGaffe Not really. Many of the big hitters this year have performed better on PS5 while getting better resolutions on Series X, end of the day PS5 is usually the lead platform so it makes sense plus its very Dev friendly more so then Series. Don't why you're bringing up 30fps as every PS5 title this year is 60fps, let me guess you're a last gen or Series S only player?
