Resident Evil 4 Remake is now out in the wild, as you've probably seen from our chunky guide campaign that we've created to help you every step of the way through Capcom's RE4 reimagining. But, if you just want to see an early peek at how the game is holding up from a technical perspective, the folks over at Digital Foundry have posted their early Resident Evil 4 analysis.
In short, the game is looking really good all round, with Xbox Series X holding up particularly nicely across the board. The team does still have some reservations about frame rate and controls on Xbox, but nothing too major, and to be honest we didn't notice many issues at all during our review time.

We'd expect the DF team to post a deep dive analysis on the game in the coming days, and we at Pure Xbox will have our own Xbox Series X Vs. Series S comparison video live on YouTube early next week. For now, we hope you're all enjoying Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remake!
Are you playing RE4 Remake this weekend? Do let us know if you're planning on booting it up on Xbox!

I really want this but the dead zone issues are deal breaker for me. The demo felt awful and I won't gamble on a fix as res evil village had the problem and never got fixed. 😥
Well, as long as they don’t fix the terrible deadzone I’m not touching it. Tried fixing it with the elite controler customization options but since the deadzone is baked it the game it doesn’t really help. If the blurrier visuals on the PS5 get fixed first then I’ll buy it on that console even though I’d prefer having it on XsX
I am always boggled by this controller issue on Xbox. Microsoft has a whole system in place on Series consoles that was supposed to make controllers more responsive.
Do developers just not bother to use it?! Is it broken on Microsoft's side?!
I don’t understand the complaints about Xbox control issues. I haven’t noticed any problems and am having a blast.
And for some reason it actually feels a bit easier than the original. In any case it looks great and plays great! Loving it!
I just wish it was available for the one x.
I went with the PS5 version over the Series X. The Playstation version supports gyro aiming and I prefer the Dualsense Edge to the Elite Series 2 controller. I'll double dip and buy a copy for Series X when the price drops to $20.
How the hell do you release a game with controller dead zone and stick acceleration issues, it’s only a process setting to change.
A wonderful remake spoiled on series x by some num nut at Capcom missing the error.
Surely a quick patch in a week at the most can sort this out.
@GamingFan4Lyf it’s not the xbox controller. The dead zone are baked into the RE engine and gameplay. No controller can fix it. I played the demo and it’s not a complete deal breaker but it would be more enjoyable without it. Feel clunky and old.
@Green-Bandit But why is it baked into the Xbox version and not the PS5 version?
We are talking controller input that’s been around since consoles have existed and analog controls have been around since N64 days. What is so different about Xbox that this has even happened?
I reckon PlayStation version is getting my money. I’m just waiting on what the VR will be. Luckily I’m so busy right now I don’t have time for it anyway.
I will say the ps5 version of the demo felt noticeably better in its quality mode…if not quite as sharp looking.
The 3D sound and controller also adding more to the experience.
Hopefully a future patch will get the Xbox version feeling on par.
Hopefully, it gets patched.
@Bleachedsmiles The Xbox also has "3D sound", Dolby Atmos.
@GamingFan4Lyf wow thats a good question then, i didn’t play the PS5 demo, but i thought players were saying it was in it too, if it’s not than you got me, i don’t know what the deal is. Good point out, and i will try and dig around and see if there is a fix and answer. I have disliked PS5 controllers for their dead zone in the sticks for years and always played my shooters on console with a Xbox controller. They are spot on as far as controllers go, but this RE4 thing has me left wondering. Thanks for bringing that to my attention 😀
@Green-Bandit I think PS5 has a little, but I don't think it's as egregious as on Xbox. You will have to check out the Digital Foundry video as it is discussed.
@Banjo- I personally found the sound better on the PS5 demo. Add to that the use of sound through the controller…just added more for me👍
@GamingFan4Lyf yeah i will have to look at that. Last i heard the textures were better on Xbox, and PS5 had a few performance issues that would be ironed out by launch or shortly after. Sounds like they need to patch up the Xbox version. I am probably skipping RE4 at launch, not cause it’s not great, i am just not much of a Horror fan, they don’t scare me or anything, just not my preferred play setting outside of Diablo. I will snag it when it is $40 or under.
