After weeks of rumours (years in fact, if you count the initial reporting), LEGO 2K Drive has officially been revealed, and it's coming much sooner than you might think. 2K's new brick-filled racer hits Xbox on May 19th, 2023 and guess what - it's open world!
In big Forza Horizon 4 LEGO DLC vibes, 2K Drive opts for an open world design for its main mode, with "racing, minigames, challenges, collectibles, things to destroy, and well-known vehicles" all featured.
LEGO 2K Drive is being made by the team behind the company's NBA and WWE titles, Visual Concepts, who hope to deliver "an unforgettable experience" for Xbox players this May. Here are a few of the game's core features, straight from the team at 2K:
- High-Octane LEGO Racing
- Racing in LEGO 2K Drive is a fast-paced, off-the-wall experience as players battle across a broad range of tracks while taking advantage of unique power-up abilities that can transform a player’s standing in the race with the touch of a button.
- A Story in a Vast Open World
- Players will journey across Bricklandia's multiple unique biome regions as they compete against a series of charismatic rivals with hopes of one day winning the coveted Sky Cup Trophy.
- Unique Customization: LEGO 2K Drive introduces a diverse customization system that allows players to build their own vehicles to suit their tastes, with over 1,000 unique LEGO pieces available over the course of their adventure, in addition to a wealth of color designs, stickers, flairs, and more.
- Play Solo or Together: LEGO 2K Drive offers robust co-op and thrilling competitive multiplayer to enjoy with others. Play with family and friends via local, 2-person split-screen or match online with other intrepid racers of similar skill levels.
2K says that this is just the start for its partnership with LEGO, with 2K Drive marking "the first release in a multi-title partnership" between the two companies. Although no other games from the lineup have been officially announced here, we're pretty excited to see what else the pairing brings to Xbox!

Looks like good fun! I like it when racing games embrace the crazier arcade style, and building your own car sounds like a killer feature.
This looks like it could be great! Lets just hope they get some nice fun driving physics to match those looks.
This should have been Banjo-Kazooie Nuts&Bolts Racing. Instead we got a gimmicky platformer and no new diddy kong racing. Resulting in bad sales and still no Banjo-Threeie 😢
It’s all about the drifting mechanics for me.
If it drifts and rides like MK then they could have a great game on their hands.
If it drifts like other MK wanna be games then it won’t suit me.
This looks amazing. Let’s hope it plays as well as it looks. Agree with the Mario Kart drift comment above.
