It looks like fans of Atlus and specifically Shin Megami Tensei are in for an exciting future on Xbox, as new rumours are suggesting that multiple games from the series could be coming to Xbox and maybe Xbox Game Pass relatively soon.
The latest rumour relating to Shin Megami Tensei even goes as far as revealing images that seem to be taken from a trailer/presentation to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the series, expected to take place on May 6th.
Based on this, it seems we could be getting Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster, Shin Megami Tensei IV, Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse and Shin Megami Tensei V on Xbox, and there have been rumours that Game Pass might be involved with one or more of these titles, which we're certainly hoping is the case.
Obviously images can be faked and rumours don't always come true, so it's worth taking all of this with a punch of salt for now, but we're definitely keeping our fingers crossed for an exciting announcement come May 6th.

It makes sense. Persona and Yakuza are on Xbox and doing well and Soul Hackers 2 is on GP, why not more SMT? Anyone can make a professional looking image and take a picture of it on a screen, though. Definitely taking it with a grain of salt.
Excellent! Now we only need Square Enix to not exclude Xbox anymore.
@NEStalgia Now look at this!
If true then it seems Microsoft have most likely paid for exclusivity or for playstation exclusion, as playstation 4/5 isn't mentioned in that image. Either that or Nintendo had a requirement in their original contract to exclude playstation, so nothing stopping these games coming to xbox.
Maybe in retaliation to playstation nabbing persona 6 as an exclusive, we will have to wait and see, unless this a fake.
FF7 Remake please!
More useful than MS pushing mobile games!
Hopefully IV + Apocalypse get a Switch physical version if this rumour is true (the others are already on Switch with physical versions). Next week's eshop shutdowns showcase further why Nintendo's the most unreliable when it comes to digital. While Jim Ryan did try to shutdown the PS3 and Vita stores in 2021, the backlash reversed the decision meanwhile the backlash over the 3DS/Wii U eshop shutdown did absolutely nothing.
@Grumblevolcano Backlash means nothing to Nintendo (and I love Nintendo!) and they have always done whatever they wanted to regardless of how it might upset fans.
Why Sega and Atlus keep adding games to Game Pass? Didn't anyone tell them this is killing their sales and they wont make any money??? /sarcasm
Seriously, loving this. I'll likely buy them all, and the news of SMT IV on a big screen TV is music to my ears!
@Grumblevolcano Oh yea if there is a physical release on switch i will likely double dip, buying it for both Switch physical and and xbox digitally.
How trustworthy is the source, does anyone know? I haven't bought Shin Megami Tensei IV yet and would like to know whether I will buy it digitally on the 3ds or whether I will wait for a physical version on the Switch.
@UltimateOtaku91 Or potentially Nintendo has a permanent exclusivity license for SMTIV amd V, and Nintendo greenlit them now going to XBox given how close a relationship they had with them in the last few years (not just recently, Xbox has collaborated with Nintendo to bring Ori, Golden Eye, and Banjo to the switch, not to mention Smash.)
I mean, SMTV was, I think, revealed on the Switch reveal. It would not shock me if the game was nearly on Bayonetta grounds.
It's all a guessing game right now, but there is no chance that Xbox would pay to keep only PlayStation out. If they pay for an exclusive, they pay for an exclusive.
@Banjo- I wish but I woudn't count on it any time soon.
Square Enix is the last good thing PS "has" sadly.
Never played a SMT game. If they hit GamePass I might give one of them a go.
@Tharsman it's a strange one as I remember when SMT V came out the PS4 version was mentioned in the games code. Plus I wouldn't rule out Microsoft paying for this as they did say they were working with a lot of Japanese partners.
Its always a guessing game with atlus and square enix to why their games go to one console and not the other etc, and I doubt we will ever get to the bottom of it.
@Friendly The leak is from 4Chan, so probably not very reliable.
@Wakkawipeout It's rare but sometimes backlash works with Nintendo. They delisted Pikmin 3 and its DLC on the Wii U eshop the day they announced Pikmin 3 Deluxe for Switch (the Wii U version was a lot cheaper as part of the Nintendo Selects line). Backlash resulted in them re-adding the game and DLC to the Wii U eshop.
@UltimateOtaku91 well one thing (i think) we know is that until recently they used their own in-house engines for games. Now they are experimenting with Unreal and Unity, but with an in-house engine it means porting to any given platform is a huge project, the entire engine needs to be rewritten to work on each platform. Third party engines already do this on their own, thats a huge factor why they are so popular, they drastically cut down on multi-platform development.
Honestly, even if this leak is true, just as with SMTIII, I would expect SMTIV eventually ending on PlayStation too, unless Nintendo has any say on it, though. They don't exactly get along with Sony.
If true, this is awesome news. SMTV is incredible and I spent a good 70+ hours with it. I think Game Pass would create a new audience for the game, especially for those who just got introduced to the Persona series for the first time via GP.
@BlackMayge Same here. Fantastic game. I'm glad more people could enjoy it.
@Tharsman who does get along with Sony nowadays?
Capcom, EA, Square Enix and Bandai Namco and that’s more or less about it from the big guns.
@Friendly I think the only ones that get actually along with Sony are Square Enix, everyone else its strictly business.
@Sebatrox Now all we need is Atelier and Disgaea!
@Tharsman Atelier is a fantastic game and should be enjoyed by a lot more than it should, other big games that I personally believe people on xbox would enjoy are the Trails of cold steel and YS games.
But I definitely wouldn't recommend most of what NIS bring out such as disgaea, neptunia and games like fairy fencer and mugen souls. They are very niche even on playstation and not the best type of games to get xbox players into JRPG's
@UltimateOtaku91
Dood... how dare you, dood?
@Xiovanni Ha ha Let's look at it that way. I'm sure that the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Collection will come to Xbox as it's on Windows (same OS) and I don't think that Sony will be paying for indefinite Xbox exclusion as they are doing with VII Remake.
I didn't get SMTV because of the poor performance on Switch but it would be a no-brainer on Series X|S.
@Tharsman "Now all we need is Atelier and Disgaea!"
And Ys & Legend of Heroes. I wouldn't rule out Disgaea, though, after how hard it failed even on Nintendo, they may be super eager for a GP deal if MS is willing.
@Tharsman @Friendly "I think the only ones that get actually along with Sony are Square Enix, everyone else its strictly business."
Pretty much this. Plus Take Two. They seem to be buddy buddies. And formerly Activision but Jim took care of that for good even if they stayed independent. And I'm sure watching Sony try to annihilate their own partner will have a chilling effect on other companies considering partnering with them. Famously backstabbing "partners" aren't very reliable business relationships.
@Banjo- I'll believe it when/if confirmed, but that's encouraging news if true (and I might actually finally play that 15fps slideshow called SMTV if so @ralizah )
@UltimateOtaku91 Disgaia could never be anything but niche, but I also think GP could help the series grow. It's one of those things nobody is going to pay full price for a game that's a total question mark so nobody buys it that didn't already buy it before.
OTOH, I'm someone that used to buy it but always got destroyed part way through and probably wouldn't even play it on GP now. It might just be a dying series.
I'd love this if true, I wanna see more Japanese games come to Xbox that usually just skip it without even considering the Platform. It seems like that's starting to change but that could just be Microsoft throwing money at the problem for a temporary fix.
Ports of the 3DS duology would be huge. Especially considering the looming eShop closure.
I'd love if they took the opportunity to polish up SMT IV a bit. It's so close to being an amazing game.
IV: A is already polished and amazing, so no need to make any real changes.
@NEStalgia Disgaea has been quite successful on Switch, as have many similar games from other companies. A Game Pass deal isn't going to solve their real problem, which is that they've oversaturated the market with Disgaea games in recent years and failed to evolve the series in such a way as to expand the appeal of the series.
I went into SMT V waiting for a game not as good as persona, but that can fill that void, I must say that it exceeded my expectations. I found SMT even more appealing since it has not all the social links aspects. Wich makes it infinitely more replaysble.
@Ralizah It may help somewhat in that it will expose the series to an audience that mostly hasn't been saturated by it yet.
Yes! Pleae bring these bad boys to Xbox
@Nighto4 Yep. True. We'll see how it goes. Octopath Traveller on Xbox and not on PS and the sequel on PS and not on Xbox. What sense does that make? Square Enix don't make sense at all. Someone said on this website that they're bitches...
