We've been waiting on Disney Speedstorm for a while, and now we know that it's about to reach the starting line on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, with an early access launch penned in for April 18th, 2023.
If you haven't heard of this one, it's a new racing game from the creators of the Asphalt series, and the intention is for it to launch in free-to-play form sometime this year, but it looks like we're starting off with a paid early access release.
If you want to get early access, there are three different Founder's Packs that can be pre-ordered on the Xbox Store beginning at £25.99 / $29.99, complete with various bonuses. It seems to be following a similar strategy to Disney Dreamlight Valley, which is also supposed to be going free-to-play at some point this year.
You can check out the early access trailer above, along with more details and screenshots below.
"Welcome to Disney Speedstorm's Early Access! Start your engines and hit the track with the Founder's Pack that grants early access to the game and contains exclusive items!
Disney Speedstorm is the ultimate hero-based combat racing game, set on high-speed circuits inspired by Disney and Pixar worlds. It’s a thrilling arcade racing experience where players will need to master each character’s unique skills on the racetrack and claim victory."

This sounds pretty cool if it's actually fun to play. Kids love Mario Kart so if we can get some F2P fun with Disney characters I'm all for it. I just tried that Kart Racer Drift last night and it's decent. The idea of Disney characters in a racer is good.... just make sure it's fun to play .
I was hoping that - like Dreamlight valley - it would launch on GamePass. Oh well, will wait for the F2P version.
I gotta be upfront about the fact that if the game is fun and thy drop some paid Boba Fett character n Kart I'm likely buying it even though I very rarely buy any in game stuff.
Mario Kart 8 deluxe is starting to feel stagnant to me now, so this is coming out at the right time and actually looks like decent fun. But I'm hoping the characters don't cost too much and the battle pass is quite generous to players.
I'm cautiously optimistic about this game, but this is kind of gross. $70 for the "Ultimate Edition" and they don't even give you all the characters. I could understand not giving customers content from future seasons, but paying the same price as a brand new AAA game for a F2P made by GameLoft that intentionally excludes basic content is just awful.
Heard this is a glorified slot machine from previews. Let’s see how this goes.
I have no faith in any game trying to be a fun alternative, not replacement but alternative, to Mario Kart or Smash after Team Sonic Racing & MultiVersus among others in recent history broke my spirit. If it's not just a bad or underwhelming experience it's a F2P model where you'd better loving grinding and pray it never loses popularity and goes away forever.
