Earlier this week, it was revealed the legendary game designer Shinji Mikami would be leaving the Microsoft and Bethesda Japanese studio Tango Gameworks. Mikami's team most recently wrapped up work on the shadow drop Game Pass release, Hi-Fi RUSH.
Now, following Bethesda's official confirmation, Mikami has taken to social media to thank everyone for their support. He's also asked fans of Tango to continue supporting the studio and believes it's in the capable hands of the younger generation. Here's a rough translation, courtesy of Google:
@shinji_mikami: "Thank you to all who have supported Tango so far. I am leaving Tango, but the young people have grown up well. Please continue to support the games that Tango releases in the future."
"...It's honestly nice to hear everyone say thank you. Thank you, everyone."
Before founding Tango to work on series like Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo, Mikami had a long-running career at Capcom - helping create series like Resident Evil and Dino Crisis. He leaves Tango Gameworks in the coming months after 12 years at the company.
Xbox boss Phil Spencer also thanked Mikami for his contribution, mentioning how he looked forward to their "continued friendship" beyond Tango.

I don't know why Twitter exists as a medium it's full of degenerate human beings more so than other social media platforms. Since the inception of Tango Gameworks Shinji Mikami have been awfully quiet. He's been more of a mentor overseeing other emerging talents than direct the game himself. I think he's fulfilled his dream with this team and can leave happily seeing what he had created with this team. What he has achieved in this industry is massive and I'm a huge fan of his works. He helped make survival horror genre awesome for me and probably countless others. What'd be amazing before leaving he announces here's Evil Within 3. Regardless a pioneer in the industry and I have huge respect for him. Thanks a lot Shinji Mikami. Hope for a bright future ahead of you. And hopefully Tango Gamerorks can finally become a household name in making quality games.
@Tonmoy Nicely said, and I'm sure his legacy will continue to help shape their future.
Not sure why you opened with a statement on the evils of twitter, as the story doesn't appear to have any twitter nonsense in it? I've dumped it myself of course, so I definately agree 😊
@Tonmoy Agree wit what you said about Mikami. Great career (so far) and brilliant what he has done with setting up Tango and mentoring the next gen. Future's bright there.
Re: Twitter, there's plenty of positive stuff too, like this, you just have to know where to look, and crucially where not to. General rule is only read the posts of people you follow and don't scroll down into the comments. Crazies dwell below the fold. lol
But i'm not sure Twitter is any worse that things like Reddit or NeoGAF, frankly there are unhinged online denizens everywhere. And for all it's faults at least Twitter is an open platform for all and not as much of an echo chamber like Parler or Truth Social, etc. that deliberately fosters division so strongly as part of their primary goal. Better the devil you know sometimes.
@Titntin In the original Bethesda statement there's full of console fan boys. So I made the comment about Twitter. It's like everything's is about console wars. It's really pathetic.
@themightyant Yeah man I don't really want to scroll down the comment section but the other day I did and it's full of toxic comments. It's really disheartening.
If they make more games like Hi-Fi Rush, color me interested.
@IronMan30 my thoughts as well
With Hi Fi Rush doing well, Ghostwire Tokyo on Xbox at the end of March & whatever they show in June. If Bethesda & Microsoft allow Tango to continues to experiment making AA & AAA titles from multiple genres they'd be up there with Obsidian as one of Xbox's most valuable studios.
