It's been a really weird start to 2023 for Xbox Game Pass, with no official roundup having surfaced for the month of January as of yet, although we've still seen Stranding Deep and Mortal Shell arrive over the past few days.
Now, it looks like we've got confirmation of another Xbox Game Pass addition for January 2023. Xbox has been sending out messages since late last week stating that Shadow Warrior 3 is now playable on the service, even though it isn't!

The most likely scenario is that this message was sent to Xbox Game Pass subscribers a little too early, and we'll probably hear of Shadow Warrior 3's arrival at some point this week - in fact, it could be as soon as this Tuesday.
Of course, it could also be a mistake, but it seems a little too deliberate for that. Fingers crossed for a Shadow Warrior 3 date on Xbox Game Pass in the very near future!
Shadow Warrior 3 launches the offbeat first-person shooter series to the next level with a seamless blend of fast-paced gunplay, razor-sharp melee combat, and a spectacular free-running movement system.

Time for another Game Pass announcement Microsoft people are starting to worry with the lack of communication. It's as if they have nothing to offer.
Played Shadow Warrior 3 on PS+ and was a huge letdown nothing like the first two games. Wasn't Diofield Chronicle leaked and supposed to be on Game Pass but haven't heard anything since.
So they don't announce anything for like 40 days and they'll start the new year of with Shadow Warrior 3? Wow that game is so bad.
Oof. After a really solid August-November last year, it looks like we’re potentially slipping back to rough quality of GP titles.
Hope there really is an Xbox presentation soon. Xbox needs it. Badly.
@Chaudy to be fair they’re starting the new year with Persona 3 & 4, Monster Hunter Rise and Age of Empires II. But in terms of announcements, yea we need a showcase please!
I hope it does come to GP as I've been interested in checking it out.
@somnambulance Just this month we have Persona 3 and 4, Monster Hunter Rise and Age of Empires 2. Those are “rough quality” games?!?
I’ll be happy to keep getting rough quality if that’s the level of games we’re talking about.
I don’t know what’s going on with game pass but Microsoft should give some info the holidays are over go back to work and give subscribers some news .
Melissa McGamepass goes on vacation for a few weeks and the community decends into madness, give her a raise.
@Moonglow @awp69 alright, alright, but, I will raise a point here, most of these examples are all effectively older titles still. Persona … we’re talking about PS2 era games… P4 is almost 15 years old. Age of Empires 2 came out in 1999. I suppose I can’t deny that MH: Rise is relatively new. They’re all a big deal though, being “classic” titles. You’re right, my bad. I tend to forget about old titles that get added to Gamepass for some reason.
That trailer is awesome. Such a shame the game is not.
@somnambulance You're not wrong, but, old or not, these are all new release (on Xbox) full price games with PS price parity. And you're forgetting the Atlus tax. Persona 5 is a PS3 game that Atlus just re-released on Xbox, Switch, and PS5 for a full $60.... P3/P4 are a surprisingly rare moment of Atlus generosity at $20 a pop for a current gen port of a PSP/Vita port of PS2 games that screams "No, Mister Teddie, we expect you to die". This is the company that just released a port called "remaster" of PS2's SMT Nocturne for $50.
AOE, ok, yeah, I think a console port of one of the most complex RTS's ever is amazingly awesome, but we are talking about a 90's game for sure.
Rise is big though, it's a current Nintendo exclusive launching onto GP.
Just look on the bright side. This month Game Pass gets one of the biggest and best RTS's ever, 2 of the best JRPGs ever, even if old, and a huge Nintendo exclusive MonHun game as part of a $15 subscription. Over on the PS side we get Forespoken for $70 lol (yeah, yeah, I know it's right after GoW, but I still can't help but wince )
@Cyberpsycho Diofield seems like the perfect Game Pass game of a really good, but really niche game that went way under the radar and really kind of just died. But...then there's that whole Sony-Squeenix bromance going on since that was rumored. I still don't think Sony's buying Square, but I wouldn't doubt Sony laid a blanket "thou art to blacklist Game Pass completely" contract on them for crazy money funneled into FF16 or 7R2/3, or bailing Forespoken out from certain doom. I think Squeenix would sell their own shareholders into slavery if it meant funneling more money into anything with the FF name on it.
MS is laying low during the acquisition and hopes to convince everyone that it’s not a threat. Meanwhile GP subscribers try to stay awake!
@NEStalgia Hey, I’m excited for Forspoken! I preordered the game two years ago, so I’m ready to get it finally. Haven’t waited this long for a preorder since The Last Guardian. Forspoken is a bigger title for me than GoW. FFXV was my GotY 2016… I may be Luminous’s biggest fan across the forums here.
For me, GP in January is a whiff, but I’m pretty excited to try Atomic Heart in February. I’ve got huge reservations for the title, but call me crazy, I’d like literal day one titles and it fits the bill. I buy games when they come out if I want them, regardless of platform. But you’re totally right about the value. GP does have a solid value proposition in January. I’ve been proven wrong. I admit my mistake!
@somnambulance It's ok, I preordered FFXV (pre-pre-pre-complete edition steel book)....we all make mistakes
I can't disagree that GoW isn't a huge game for me either though
(also what is wrong with PS/PXB today, tongue emoji aren't showing up, and avatars are only showing up half the time )
@NEStalgia Hey, I loved FFXV. I actually got the steel book version with my PS4 when I purchased it. Yeah, there’s some DLC baiting with it, and the game definitely wasn’t complete at release, but now that it’s been properly finished, it’s absolutely stellar.
GoW is, for me, a fine game. And that’s it. It just doesn’t talk to me. Everything about it is technically well done, but it just doesn’t get personal with me, I suppose. I’ve played through them since the PS2 era and sometimes I wonder why. Lol.
I heard GP was supposed to get Street Fighter Anniversary too.
GP is a mess right now. But does it matter? More than half of the community will support anything they do. Hell, I've seen people supporting the idea of ads in games. GP could increase the price by 30%, only put out indie shovelware, and still retain more than half it's subs.
@somnambulance I do like XV, too, but bought the steel book for 70 or 80 or whatever only to end up buying the actual complete edition that still wasn't complete for like 25 later lol.
I never finished it though. Spent forever and ever trying to do the quests in the main area, the diners and the ones from the tabloid guy in the big city and they just kept coming. By the time I got on the boat I was already burned out, finished the water serpent thing and the whole sequence was just so weird... Then emo Clou....err...Noct on the train, and then a dlc and then something with the blinded bro and then I think I never went back to it after that
All that said it has a unique tone that stays with me. And I fear it's more FF than 16 will be. I have very bad vibes about FF XVI: Crystals May Cry
I'm with you on GoW. Same for me. It's a decent game but just that. IMO the old ones are much better video games than the new ones. They're not bad but they're just not special, and any time it's praised is always the writing and acting, not the actual game.
Not a fan of shadow warrior so I'll prob give this a miss.
@NEStalgia I still have no idea what to think about XVI, but I can’t wait to find out. My tip for XV is to just go through it with blinders and play with absolute tunnel vision. The game has a fantastic main story, but the side quests and grinding can be a bit much in the title. The first time I tried the game, it didn’t do much for me, but the second time, where I tried to rush the game, I actually found myself slowing down as I neared what felt like the end because I didn’t want it to stop. Really strange title. I’m the only person I know that finished it too. I know someone that’s level capped in the game, but earlier in then you.
@somnambulance I'm definitely going on the "wait long and buy on sale" for 16. I just have very very low hopes of a clearly westernized HBO styled FF with no party and combat that's literally DMC 🙄
15 yeah that's probably for the best. I played literally for months every day and still never completed all the grind quests on the mainland. After a while it just overstays it's welcome. The world itself feels real to me though. Maybe because I lived in it more than reality
@awp69
Not to mention Atomic Heart in February
