Atomic Heart is one of the biggest Xbox Game Pass launches happening in the first few months of 2023, with developer Mundfish's crazy-looking shooter coming to the service on February 21st. Ahead of that launch, the team has spoken to outlet wccftech about all things Atomic Heart, including the game's laser focus on single player content.
When asked about DLC plans — including potential multiplayer add-ons — the team was pretty adamant that as of now, it has no plans for online play of any kind.
"The entire Atomic Heart experience will be single-player, focusing on the story and player experience. No multiplayer add-ons are planned at this time."
However, that doesn't mean DLC isn't planned at all - far from it. Mundfish has four single player add-ons mapped out, which will "significantly expand" different elements of the Atomic Heart experience.
"The DLCs are intended to greatly expand the player experience with new territories, quests, puzzles, enemies, as well as character and world stories."
"We plan to significantly expand both the open-world territories, as well as new complexes and labs - where the player will learn more about the Atomic Heart world and will need to complete new challenges."
Of course, these DLC packs will likely come at a premium and not as part of Xbox Game Pass, but still, if the base game is as fun as it looks so far we're very interested in seeing the team's comprehensive DLC plans comes to fruition.

@Microbius I've gotten to the point where if I see a game has an online component I tend to just ignore it. Games with online multiplayer often leave the single player side neglected.
Really looking forward to this, one of many great games coming in February but this is at the top for me. Been watching IGN's preview which is building up the hype.

I have been waiting for this game for years. I am glad for one that there is no online play. Just focus on the story. Story games just bring so much more to the table. That said. I loved Bioshock 2 online element. But I just love Bioshock. So I am biased
Extensive DLC plan makes me a bit cautious. There is a risk GP release might end up being just a demo/trial, with 1/5 of campaign content..
Waiting on that trophy list. Might be one for a platinum run if no online trophies needed
@Cikajovazmaj That is my fear as well, with this news. I still really don’t know how to feel about the title either, but it launches right after three other games I’ll be playing and right before a whole host of other titles, so if it sticks, it sticks, right?
This game looks awesome, I really hope it lives up to expectations, it’s gonna be my game in-between Hogwarts Legacy and Jedi Survivor.
@Cikajovazmaj It’s coming to PlayStation as well as a full priced $70 title so doubt they would do that.
@Cikajovazmaj It’s a possibility but it’d have nothing to do with Game Pass, just look at The Callisto Protocol which is honestly mediocre with a very incomplete story that they plan to fill-up with more DLC, it didn’t release on any service but instead at full price at $70, my most disappointing game from last year by far.
@Moonglow Neglect, ignoring, whatever it is. Rockstar sure seems to hate single player content since GTA4. I think it's a bit of neglect and ignoring. Zero content for GTA5 and zero content for Red Dead Redemption 2. I prefer games that have zero online/multiplayer content for this reason.
@IOI oh, I did not mean that as GP specific problem. My point was that they would release incomplete game that will only become whole once "ultimate edition" gets published.
Calisto Protocol is a great example of a game that would have been smart to exploit GP/PSP route, because at 70$ it is rubbish.
@iplaygamesnstuff they're chasing the money. It's a much safer bet to create a new car or mode for an online game than build out a story.
You'd hope by now though with all that GTA Online money they'd have put some of it into a GTA 5 story expansion. Sadly it looks like they moved on to GTA 6.
Fingers crossed this isnt another Callisto protocol disappointment.
@ParsnipHero They will be saving me money. I won't spend a dime on their games. They have proven to me they don't care.
I’ll check it out on gamepass, but they won’t see a single cent from me for DLC or actually purchasing the game.
Won’t elaborate but it shouldn’t be hard to know why.
My hype level has increased
@iplaygamesnstuff Red Dead is my favorite games. What Rockstar did with RDR2 online is just a shame. It’s so not well made and that held back DLC for the story that would have sold gangbusters. Then to throw more insult to injury they don’t even have a Series X upgrade coming anytime soon. The fact it’s even my favorite gaming franchise is surprising.
