There's been a bout of bad news floating around about Ubisoft lately, but how about something at least a little positive? Despite multiple internal game cancellations, the company has reiterated that work on Beyond Good & Evil 2 is ongoing.
In a statement detailed by PCGamesN, Ubisoft confirmed that Beyond Good & Evil 2 development is still progressing. Here's the statement in full:
"Beyond Good and Evil 2’s development is underway and the team is hard at work to deliver on its ambitious promise..."
If you can believe it, Beyond Good & Evil 2 was first announced by the company back in 2017, yet we've not properly seen the game in action for years at this stage - it likely looks very different in 2023.
Another Ubisoft title that was announced in 2017 is Skull & Bones; also a game that has yet to see the light of day! Still, we have seen gameplay of that one as recently as last week, and its release shouldn't be too far away now.
Do you think Beyond Good & Evil 2 will ever come out? Predict the game's launch year down below!

Hopefully they remaster the first game before the sequel releases, I'd also settle for just an HD port.
At this point I wonder how long Ubisoft will remain in business for! They seem to be cancelling the majority of their work.
There is a HD version of the game though.

I think the boats sailed. I can’t see a sequel coming out and being successful at this point.
This game is never coming out
@tho_mi maybe a HDer version?
It will eventually come out but it will be a let down.
I think ubisoft will be fine long term but I expect they downsize significantly and focus on a small number of projects for awhile.
"But really, who would like to join our Space Monkey Program?"
@UltimateOtaku91 Others already said it but didn't tag you, BGE HD does already exist on XB.
@Kaloudz Activision's been around longer. Just sayin'.....
@NEStalgia thanks for letting me know, that must of slipped past me. Will deffo be getting that as the game does look interesting.
Devs are still "hard at work" on Star Citizen too
That pig in the header image is pure nightmare fuel.
The five people looking forward to this will be thrilled.
@Ralizah The scariest part is it actually looks like Michel Ancel....
I just have to ask: Who exactly is Beyond Good and Evil 2 for and why is it being made?
Don’t get me wrong in the question. I liked the first one a lot. It’s peak Ubisoft, honestly, one of their absolute best games. However, I don’t recall the game being a hit in any capacity. It seemed like a niche title that had strong critical reception, and honestly that seems like a huge risk in the first place. Then too, the sequel is so many years removed from the original, and with such prolonged development, people don’t necessarily seem secure about the title. It’s just such a bizarre title to have so much attention, resources, and time put into it. I have no idea what to think about it at this point, but I’m honestly baffled at the whole project as a whole. It seems like such a high profile risk at this point.
@somnambulance Isn't it obvious? Extensive market research determined that this is a game includes numerous identified components making it well suited for the key 14-56 demographic of low to high income households with interests in video games, and adventure entertainment content, which should connect well due to it's space and fantasy themes with the current market expansion of the Marvel and Star Wars brands focusing on highly stylized adventure-realistic space adventures. Duh!
I think that's the problem with Ubisoft in general. This started as a sequel to a well regarded IP they own. Then it somehow became a necessary to make it follow all the current gaming trends. ("Current" based on 2015 trends for a game revealed in 2017 and still not out in 2023), but make it BIGGERER and REALERER than anything that's ever come before to make it the biggest in scope game than ever and leave it's cartoon trappings behind to become so much more REAL which is what all gamers wanted (in 2015), to take advantage of next gen hardware (from 2013), and it would just be BIGGER and MORE and more EDGY and more AMAZE and be all about, wait, WTF was it about again? Who cares PIGS IN SPACE, YO! And SERIOUS EMOTIONAL STORY! With Space monkeys.
At some point they thought they could turn this into a Cyberpunk level project to just upend the industry. The problem was they DID turn it into a Cyberpunk level project....
I mean it should have been an omen when they tried to crowd source the textures from the future customers, and then Ancel quit an ran off to live in the woods.
@NEStalgia Lol, and yet it’s still in development. Wasn’t the first game considered the biggest financial flop in Ubisoft history at the time too? I’ll be honest, I’m hoping the game is excellent, but I have next to no belief the game will even hit #1 the week it releases.
Played the original on PC and then a second time on Xbox and got the 200 gamerscore. I hope this plays like the original with the world, the photography, vehicles, mini games, and has Jade and Pey'j as the main protagonists.
@somnambulance Makes you really wonder what all the games they've cancelled were if THIS one is the safer bet, lol!
@NEStalgia These are just speculative rumors that I’m making up here, but here are the cancelled titles: A free-to-play Watchdogs title with open sea combat because why not? A Rabbids/Just Dance crossover mobile BR title with gatcha mechanics and microtransactions, where the sole gameplay core is to collect NFTs by dancing better than 99 other people that also paid to play. Oh, and also, a genuinely solid, new Rayman platformer.
@somnambulance ROFL. Honestly, all of those except the Rayman one sound like safer bets than this monstrosity!
