Microsoft has revealed today that over 40 games will be removed from the old Xbox 360 marketplace beginning on February 7th, 2023, including plenty of classics such as Mass Effect 2 and various Assassin's Creed games.
Before you get too worried, many of these games are already available on the modern Xbox Store as backwards compatible titles for Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and Microsoft has confirmed that they will continue to be made available on that store in the future — it's just the Xbox 360 marketplace that will be affected.
Here's what the company had to say in a statement to Gematsu earlier today:
“Beginning on February 7, 2023, a limited set of games, add-ons, and in-game content will no longer be purchasable in select markets via the Xbox 360 Store. These titles will no longer be purchasable on the Xbox 360 Store only, and titles that are available to be purchased on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S Stores will remain purchasable. You will still be able to play discs or previously downloaded games on your Xbox 360 and modern consoles if they are backwards compatible titles."
So, what are those games? Here's what's being delisted on Xbox 360 in the US specifically:
- Aegis Wing
- Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
- Assassin's Creed III
- Assassin's Creed Liberation HD
- Blood of the Werewolf
- Blue Dragon
- Breakdown
- Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
- Call of Duty: Ghosts
- Castle Crashers
- Cloning Clyde
- Counter-Strike: GO
- Dark Souls
- Darksiders II
- Daytona USA
- Defense Grid
- Eets: Chowdown
- Far Cry 2
- Final Fight: DBImpact
- Iron Brigade
- Jeremy McGrath's Offroad
- Jet Set Radio
- Left 4 Dead
- Left 4 Dead 2
- LIMBO
- Lost Odyssey
- Mass Effect 2
- Monopoly Deal
- Mutant Blobs Attack
- N+
- Outpost Kaloki X
- Peggle 2
- Phantom Breaker:Battle Grounds
- Prince of Persia
- R.U.S.E.
- Sega Vintage Collection: Alex Kidd & Co.
- Skate 2
- South Park: The Stick Of Truth
- Spelunky
- Splinter Cell Conviction
- Star Wars Battlefront
- Star Wars KOTOR 2
- The Orange Box
- The Raven: Episode 1
- The Witcher 2
Looking at this list, you may be aware that the likes of Daytona USA and Jet Set Radio are not currently available to buy on the modern Xbox Store despite being backwards compatible titles, and because there's no physical disc version for either of these games (along with a few others), the only way to get access to them on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S right now is to buy them through the Xbox 360 marketplace. We're hoping they might get added to the modern Xbox Store eventually, but there's no guarantee of that.
So, if you're interested in picking up these games, we highly recommend buying them while you can. You'll find a guide about how to grab them for your Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S elsewhere on Pure Xbox:

Do you think this could be the first sign that there going to shut down the online for Xbox 360?
@Snake_V5 I think that will eventually be inevitable. Both PS3 and 360 are on life support when it comes to their digital stores and features.
Which are the ones that cannot be bought via the Xbox One or Series stores? I'd hope that tomorrow most go on a flash sale but I doubt they will... why not announce it a month in advance instead of 7 days?
@shoeses
@Grumblevolcano Thanks and oof, a lot of those are gonna be missed. I'm still not sure why some games are BC but only available to buy on the 360 Marketplace.
Something to note about Final Fight: DBImapct is that it includes Magic Sword, a game not in the Capcom Bundle. Only way to play it on console I think, so it might be worth the 3 bucks.
I understand this for the multiplayer games to an extent but single player stuff like mass effect and the Witcher 2 makes no sense to me. I realize these games are on other platforms but regardless.
Some of them are not available in my region. From the ones I have I highly recommend Daytona USA!
@EliJapan The Xbox 360 support website suggests you'll be able to redownload them in the future:
"Once purchased, you can always redownload these games or any other previously purchased games from your Xbox 360 Download History."
This is why I hate the push for an all-digital future for video games.
What's all the more infuriating is a lot of these were on sale last month, but there was 0 indication they'd be leaving. It's not even like they were at suspicious all time lows too, just normal sale prices you see every few months.
@GunValkyrian Daytona USA is BWC. I have it installed on my Series X.
@GunValkyrian It is backwards compatible and can be played on Series or One - all of these can. That's why them leaving is so bad.
@Grumblevolcano @shoeses
I was able to buy Jet Set Radio via the old 360 marketplace website, and it installed on my Series X with no trouble. 🙂 I'm assuming it'll work for other titles too.
Did the same for Aegis Wing. It wouldn't redeem through the XSX, but claimed it on the 360 site. (then it installed just fine).
Oof, this feels like some anti-consumer nonsense. No real advanced notice, no heads up when the games just went on sale, just gone. I always thought this 360 marketplace was obtuse and odd (like how you couldn’t even use gift card money) so I guess it’s fitting they’re shutting down some of the functionality like this, but this stinks — especially if anyone is traveling this week or misses the news by just a few days.
@EvenStephen7 It's only as bad as it is because a good chunk of these games and their DLCs are not available on the other Xbox stores. If they were to change that, no big deal, but a lot of good 360 games like these are still only available specifically on the 360 store.
@shoeses Magic Sword is available in Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium which is on all current consoles. There also was a SNES port as well.
@Snake_V5 Doesn't look like they're even shutting the store down, just delisting some games, mostly ones that are on both storefronts already with only 2 exceptions. I'm guessing it's more a licensing and cost management thing.
@FraserG and for anyone wanting them, you can buy Daytona and Jet Set Radio off the Marketplace Xbox store from any browser, and these play great on the Series consoles, presumably this will be gone as well come February 7th

Which of these are BC and NOT available any other way?
I’ve already got Off-road and Daytona for sure, I think orange box.
I hate delisting at the best of times but this seems even worse.
I’m not in a position to fire up my old 360 this week and won’t be able to.
Bad form Xbox - bad form. Give a month or more notice. You must have known!
@Stocksy this is certainly the only way that Daytona USA can be bought on any platform (might still be on PS3 after this) most of the others including Jet Set Radio are on Steam I believe.
If there's any you want to but without using a 360 then search marketplace.xbox and the game and you should be able to buy it
@carlos82 cheers. That sounds way better.
Thanks
The fact that SEGA never moved Jet Set Radio over to the current Xbox store and are now delisting it does make me wonder if they might be working on a remake or compilation with JSRF. Since they delisted Sonic 3 and CD due to Sonic Origins.
If anyone has trouble buying off the Xbox 360 marketplace, try a different device. It wouldn't let me add payment method from my PC (the loading just went around and around) but managed to buy JSR from my phone browser. Some people have also had luck going through the Xbox Series X web browser.
This is one of the reasons I prefer to buy my games physically over digitally. The all digital future for gaming makes me sad to think about 😓
I was able to get Daytona via the Edge browser on my Series S, then initiated the download via the regular store. That song! Also did the same for Aegis Wing but that was free.
I wanted to buy the 360 version of The Orange Box for my Series X a few weeks ago, but it wouldn’t let me complete the purchase on the store. Maybe because I already own Portal 2 perhaps? And now I learn they are removing it permanently ☹️ Is it a game that I might be able to find physically instead I wonder? I’ve never played Half-Life 2 and I really want to.
@Clyde_Radcliffe that’s an interesting take on JSR and JSRF. I never gave it a thought that SEGA might be doing a remake or compilation of them. I just assumed it had to do with licensing issues with the music. I’m hoping I’m wrong and you’re right as I love those games!
I'm sure most who still play on 360, get their games as physical copies at a discount anyway.
I've never had an Xbox 360 so I bought the games I was interested in on a browser, on Xbox One or on Series X. Now that Gold don't give Xbox nor Xbox 360 games you won't get any for free, so buy whatever you're interested in, as long as it's backwards compatible. Change the region to buy titles that are not available where you live but let me tell you that you won't be able to play Ridge Racer 6 so don't buy it if you live in Europe.
A great bonus is that Xbox One X and Series X play the enhanced versions of the backwards compatible games. Series S doesn't. Final Fantasy XIII is the only game I know that was also enhanced for Xbox One and Xbox One S (and Series S) including, high-resolution cutscenes.
@Snake_V5 it'ss show us one sign, digital is useful but is meant to disapear a really sad reality started with playsttation and nintendo an now...sadly xbox do it what about game preservation? it's not a good news i still own my 360 a sad day indeed.
@Kalele As long as we are able to redownload what we own, I'm fine. I'm not sure if you're able to redownload on some consoles like DSi, Wii, PSP... I haven't tried lately.
When I saw the headline I was like. Wait. Is it 360 games? The BC program then going away? What's delisted? So a fair amount of online are gone, delisting title now hmm due to licensing or companies waking up besides when they did for PS3. That's the thing though Microsoft keeps the store running and hasn't mentioned any of it going offline at any point compared to Sony and Nintendo. Like sure Xbox Live 1.0 on OG Xbox is gone and people have uncovered it in the past few years but for 360 era the hardware is done, games I don't think are being made for PS3 or 360 but for Wii/Wii U they stopped disks. So I wondered how long it would be for anything 360 stores to go down. The online servers have from third parties and Halo but Gears hasn't yet has it? Is that why the Gears collection is so fans of the multiplayer still have a place to go to if they want to which for that I'd say sure and I'm not into the multiplayer but it's fair to offer to them besides yes them selling the campaigns again and many of us already own them all (got the series on 360 already, got 4 and played 5 on Gamepass so the only one I don't own physical), got Ultimate Edition (I didn't, don't care to fine with the 360 version) or 4 and got the 360 entries that way for a limited time.
Whether they see a need because people still purchase off it when not all is on the Xbox One/Series consoles especially for 360 game DLC or OG Xbox games of the 400+ you can't play on an Xbox One/Series at all besides the many licensed or not as big 360 games put on the Xbox One 360 BC program. Many reasons for sure to still use it and they have the money to still maintain it but I always wondered if they ever would and maybe this is a sign, maybe not. Might be just third parties not seeing a need to keep them on there anymore.
Many notable are in this list for sure, classics with online even, but glad not BC yet if it was I'd be really sad. While PGR 1 & 2 in 2020 (first time I ever played them never did when used to own an OG Xbox back in the day so was happy to when I got the chance) was fun and I don't have an OG Xbox currently so if I were to pick up Brute Force or other OG Xbox games that are BC compatible I don't want to come home and go.... well I can't play this now. Just to even test the games, let alone play them. It's why I never picked up Legend of Spyro New Beginning is while I wanted it I can't see a reason to if I can't play it on my 360 I'd have to get a PS2 or other platform copy. I already own Eternal Night on Wii nowadays and I used to own first two of that trilogy on Xbox (I remember using White and Black buttons on many games these, Scaler, Blinx) before the third on PS3.
NO NOT PEGGLE TWO I HATE YOU MICROSOFT
Were... were these games actually delisted? It still shows they're buyable.
