Microsoft has revealed today that over 40 games will be removed from the old Xbox 360 marketplace beginning on February 7th, 2023, including plenty of classics such as Mass Effect 2 and various Assassin's Creed games.
Before you get too worried, many of these games are already available on the modern Xbox Store as backwards compatible titles for Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and Microsoft has confirmed that they will continue to be made available on that store in the future — it's just the Xbox 360 marketplace that will be affected.
Here's what the company had to say in a statement to Gematsu earlier today:
“Beginning on February 7, 2023, a limited set of games, add-ons, and in-game content will no longer be purchasable in select markets via the Xbox 360 Store. These titles will no longer be purchasable on the Xbox 360 Store only, and titles that are available to be purchased on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S Stores will remain purchasable. You will still be able to play discs or previously downloaded games on your Xbox 360 and modern consoles if they are backwards compatible titles."
So, what are those games? Here's what's being delisted on Xbox 360 in the US specifically:
- Aegis Wing
- Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
- Assassin's Creed III
- Assassin's Creed Liberation HD
- Blood of the Werewolf
- Blue Dragon
- Breakdown
- Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
- Call of Duty: Ghosts
- Castle Crashers
- Cloning Clyde
- Counter-Strike: GO
- Dark Souls
- Darksiders II
- Daytona USA
- Defense Grid
- Eets: Chowdown
- Far Cry 2
- Final Fight: DBImpact
- Iron Brigade
- Jeremy McGrath's Offroad
- Jet Set Radio
- Left 4 Dead
- Left 4 Dead 2
- LIMBO
- Lost Odyssey
- Mass Effect 2
- Monopoly Deal
- Mutant Blobs Attack
- N+
- Outpost Kaloki X
- Peggle 2
- Phantom Breaker:Battle Grounds
- Prince of Persia
- R.U.S.E.
- Sega Vintage Collection: Alex Kidd & Co.
- Skate 2
- South Park: The Stick Of Truth
- Spelunky
- Splinter Cell Conviction
- Star Wars Battlefront
- Star Wars KOTOR 2
- The Orange Box
- The Raven: Episode 1
- The Witcher 2
Looking at this list, you may be aware that the likes of Daytona USA and Jet Set Radio are not currently available to buy on the modern Xbox Store despite being backwards compatible titles, and because there's no physical disc version for either of these games (along with a few others), the only way to get access to them on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S right now is to buy them through the Xbox 360 marketplace. We're hoping they might get added to the modern Xbox Store eventually, but there's no guarantee of that.
