We've known that Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima has been working on a project with Xbox Game Studios for a little while, but both parties have remained largely quiet about what we can expect from it.
However, speaking to IGN in an interview this week, Kojima pulled back the curtain just slightly to reveal some early details. Basically, he's advising this is an "unusual" project that he's been thinking about for multiple years already.
Here's a bit of what he had to say:
"In addition to DS2, we're making one other unusual title."
"The project we're working on with Microsoft is one I have been thinking about for five or six years already. The project required infrastructure that was never needed before, so I discussed it with lots of different big companies and gave presentations, but they really seemed to think that I was mad. It was ultimately Microsoft who showed that they understood, and now we're working together on the project, including the technology front."
Kojima also mentioned in the interview that he gets "easily bored", stating that "the tech you use today may not be applicable tomorrow, and I'm interested in figuring out ways to incorporate the new".
That's about all the information we have for now, although it was also confirmed back in June that the project will be a "game for Xbox like no one has ever experienced before, leveraging the cloud".
We're expecting to hear more about this in 2023, so let's hope we don't have to wait too long!
Excited for Kojima's new Xbox project? Let us know down in the comments below.

Can’t wait. This project alone makes an Xbox worth having.
I'm a bit concerned this will be more Crackdown 3 than Flight Sim.
But with Kojima who knows.
Never finished the bore that was mgs v....but I suprisingly really enjoyed death stranding
@BBB i actually agree with you that Kojima games are not really my thing, not that they aren’t well made, just not much of a game there like you said for me to really enjoy or even understand. Take Metal Gear for an example for me, the story was so confusing and just off the wall to follow, that it took away from my experience with the game. I don’t play a lot of single player story games, i would rather be playing a skill based game and getting better at it, be it Shooters or fighters , i would rather grind more time and get more talented at it then play a single player game that the story is awful or just so confusing it makes no sense. However this is why i love my PS4 and PS5, i really only use my PS5 for Sony’s single player story driven games and from the Last of us to God of War, those are excellent stories and a real fun time to play the game. Kojima games not so much, so as a Xbox fan, i want Xbox to have games that help them compete and push the platform to as many players as they can and i know it will take lots of games i am not interested in to make it a successful console, this Kojima project at the moment has me at a 3/10 excitement level and hope to be proven wrong, but Death Stranding is a heck no game for me.
I am becoming a huge fan of what cloud-based technology can do for games:
Flight Simulator with it's real-world weather
Water simulation in Sea of Thieves
Ray-traced acoustic "baking" for realistic audio (which can be used in Unity AND Unreal Engine 5), though this is more a developer thing:

Kojima is an oddball, so whatever him and Microsoft are cooking up, I am sure it will be interesting.
Like most things Xbox in 2022
Wake me up when something real happens.
A Norman reedus shower simulator where you can soap up anything as much as you want but it takes place in an abandon world's afterlife.
@Dezzy70 you’ll be sleeping more than a bear in winter at this point buddy! Haha wanted to wish you and your family and loved ones a happy holidays. Let’s hope this time next year Xbox has some heavy hitters out with more announcements coming for 2024 and then this problem is behind us.
@themightyant You might expect Flight Sim, you might think you'll actually get Crackdown 3, but since it's Kojima what you'll actually get is Animal Crossing x Dead Space built in Minecraft.
@AstraeaV That's a credible leak right there.
I was a fan of the mgs series. Especially mgs3. Since it was my first mgs game and I liked that you can wear disguises. It was the only game I saw do that at the time and I thought it was pretty cool.
I never played death stranding. But from the trailers I thought the game looked boring.
@StylesT Interesting that. Not saying you're right or wrong, but most see that the other way round.
I fully understand why people might bounce off them, but Kojima is probably my favourite developer. I've loved all his games, including Snatcher and Policenauts. I'll buy anything that guy puts out and can't wait for this.
