God of War Ragnarok reviews have been doing the rounds since yesterday's embargo lifted, and it's safe to say the PlayStation exclusive is going down rather well. Our sister site Push Square granted it a rare 10/10 score, and it seems that reviews like these are tempting some of the folk over at team Xbox to try out the game as well.
We haven't heard from Xbox boss Phil Spencer just yet (he's been very praiseworthy of Cory Barlog and his team in the past), but fellow exec Aaron Greenberg has already taken to Twitter to congratulate God of War's producer on the team's work with Ragnarok. Greenberg also seems pretty keen to go hands on for himself!
We're not at all surprised by this to be honest; it's no secret that plenty of Xbox execs play games across loads of different devices and ecosystems. Still, we support the positivity coming from team Xbox, and long may it continue!
Will you be hopping over to PlayStation to try out the new God of War? Let us know down below.

Can't wait to get my copy. Nice to see mutual respect, hopefully SM gets to return the favour soon.
As expected from Sony 1st Party high quality. Cant wait to play
This is the reason why Xbox will never surpass Playstation in market share. Sony 1st Party games are nothing short of master pieces.
The 9th can't come soon enough, pleased to hear it's a 50 hour game this time as the last one felt too short for me.
Also another reason why Xbox will never surpass PlayStation would be because Xbox continues to kiss Sonys bum and may as well do free advertising for them at this rate.
I can’t wait. The game looks epic in every facet. The 9th can’t come soon enough.
On a side note, I hope Microsoft takes a strong look at itself. These are the type of games that sell consoles, and Sony never falters to release one or two of these a year.
Next year looks like the year for Microsoft, so here is to fingers crossing for Redfall, which looks fantastic in my opinion; and Starfield.
It does look an absolute high quality game. Looking forward to it as well. I won't buy at launch (£70 still taking the mick), but I'll be playing it for sure. As a long term GoW fan I felt GoW18 was overrated for sure, but this one looks to genuinely deliver on its hype and potential.
@Kaloudz I know, right 🤣?
We better see Starfield before June, or I'm rioting lol.
They look forward to PlayStation games more than their own 🤣🤣
Wednesday can't come fast enough. Have booked a day off work next week to really get my teeth into it.

Il be picking it up next year and I am looking forward to it. 2018 was a good game and it will be good to finish the story
@Fenbops I mean, to be fair......
......what is there to look forward TO?
the games they swear they're going to release someday?
@armondo36 that’s part of it.
@Techno92LFC Agreed, never understood this. Microsoft are supposed to be competing against Sony and here they are complimenting them. I don't blame them though, they know it themselves that no one makes games like Sony and PlayStation does. They know they can't compete with them in that way.
Like I've said a million times, Xbox will forever walk in the shadows of PlayStation, they have done from day 1.
@Chaudy that and just brand power, Nintendo and PlayStation naming is as powerful as the word video game. I do agree that it helps PS a lot that they have some great exclusives tho. MS has to catch up at least some.
Xbox execs need to focus on getting AAA games to Xbox and marketing the brand. Just my opinion of course.
I mean who isn't
@Fenbops
"They look forward to PlayStation games more than their own 🤣🤣"
That is very true and unfortunate..
Such a ***** year for Xbox honestly. This month PS users get God of War Ragnarok and we get Pentiment. If Game Pass didn't exist, Xbox Series X might as well be an upgraded One X since the amount of first party exclusives released since launch is very poor. 2023 better be the ''year of Xbox'' and exclusives shown at the showcase that were promised within 12 months should not get delayed.
Also, Xbox execs need to drop the nice guy act and focus on their own game studios.
Got it pre loaded & ready to go can't wait
@Solidchief
Been saying what you said for months on here, but I get a lot of backlash.
Also lower the expectations, as promised by Xbox the big three, Redfall, Forza and Starfield will not all be out before end of June 2023.
Microsoft don’t really care at this stage of the game, they have a lot of money to ride it out and have Bethesda studios and soon now Activision and their will probably be more.
Then they will become the software power house they want to be, and stop hardware production and sell just games individually and game pass.
Then we can have software wars 😂😂😂
Queue the tissue paper pony brigade.
@Dezzy70 Xbox gonna become the new Sega lol. Redfall I can see coming out before end of June since that has been shown off a lot, I'm expecting a March release date.
I just don't see why people care so much. Microsoft the company is a competitor (and even a partner) to Sony the company. The actual people in the gaming divisions are gamers and people. Let them appreciate gaming and applaud hard work where it is due.
I feel like we have a hard time separating personal and professional lives these days.
@Solidchief
Yes agree Redfall before the end of June 2023.
But Phil himself said the other two, Forza and Starfield also before the end of June 2023 as there were no big exclusives in 2022.
Let’s see if they mess that up. And the only game out of the three that will come close to GOWR will be Forza.
Good to see. Wish we saw more stuff like this. The industry (or at least a lot of the industrys consumers) needs to grow up a bit.
@Cherip-the-Ripper
Me. Glad it looks great and hope everyone enjoys it but I’m not a fan of the series.
Some reviewers are saying the best game ever!! Apparently there are some massive twists in the story that will shock you. This is one reason Playstation have the best games, their writing and in game acting is incredible. As good as any movie or series available to watch. Sony do make movies so maybe that gives them an advantage in story telling.
My Xbox Series X will always be my go to console, but I'm also so glad that I have both a PS5 and a high-end gaming PC. Whilst I rarely game on my PC these days (since my Xbox basically fulfils that function these days) I do find myself playing through all the big PlayStation exclusives.
Since the release of the PS5 I have played Demon Souls remake, Returnal, Horizon Forbidden West, and The Last of Us Part 1 remake. And now next week I shall be diving into God of War Ragnarök. However, in the same period on the Xbox, the only exclusive game, on a similar scale, that I have is Halo Infinite (campaign, not interested in the multiplayer).
I always stand up for the Xbox as it is my preferred console, but in all honesty, it is very difficult to defend the console in relation to big first party releases because basically, outside racers, the cupboard has been bare for a few years now.
I have high hopes for the Xbox next year, and whilst I doubt we will see quality the likes of Ragnarök or The Last of Us (games which are more like quadruple A than triple A), we can at least hope to see a least a few games that maybe looked upon with some level of envy by those on the team Blue...
Xbox really want gamepass on Playstation don't they.
The sooner they don't have to support xbox hardware anymore the happier they will be. Pity, I think they built a fine machine in Series X, be nice for them to promote it more... but no, better to have headlines gushing over their rivals efforts every chance they get. The same rivals that screw over Xbox every chance they get. Fair play, Sony wants to be top dog, and act accordingly.
Really looking forward to seeing how Ragnarok's story plays out.
Personal Opinion: I always thought the Sony Blizzard deal contention was just a ploy to delay Microsoft from acquiring them, all while Sony releases first party exclusives, frustrating Xbox players and getting them to switch to the PS5. If the deal falls through, then its a bonus to them.
I guess it's working for now, but let's hope Microsoft ups their game in the coming months because I do not want to revert to Sony again 😅. Main reason for me going for the Xbox was Game Pass and State of Decay 3, and with major silence on the latter, I'm starting to lose hope!
It's hard to imagine anyone who's a multi-console player not being excited for God of War: Ragnarok. This feels like one of those "event" games that we don't see too often these days.
Don't care about it, only about Darktide.
Can’t wait to play this next Wednesday! And at least it unlocks at midnight, unlike quite a few Xbox releases this year that didn’t unlock until late in the day 🙄
I can’t bring myself to care about God of War and have never been able to. Say that as someone with a PS5. Next week is Sonic week for me. Now when Spider-Man 2 drops…that’s a different story.
And while I may love Grounded and consider it a GOTY contender, it’s been a very barren year for Xbox and they need to deliver in 2023. Fingers crossed Redfall knocks it out of the park, that and Replaced are the Xbox titles I’m keeping an eye on next year.
@EvenStephen7 you see them every year.
Nice to see these guys are gamers. GOW is a pretty special release, and most gamers would be interested. Ive never preordered a game before, but I pre ordered this last night and dont expect to be dissapointed 😁
It will need to be special indeed to take goty from elden ring, but by all accounts, it really is that special. I cant wait to find out.
@Sebatrox Those games don't even compare to PlayStation exclusives 😁
@Snake_V5 Doom is a better series than anything Playstation has tbh.
@electrolite77 fair enough, not a gow fan myself but will probably try the gow (2018) one at last. And perhaps give this new one a spin as well
News: Person who plays video games is excited to play a video game.
That aside it really does look good and I'll be playing it next week and hopefully Xbox can step up their game going forward
@Fiendish-Beaver As you're going through the major releases on the PS5, after you're done with GOWR, I highly recommend Ghost of tsushima.... That game is hands down one of the best games I've ever played, the story is amazing, the combat is phenomenal and the setting is just awe inspiring. Highly highly recommend.
Thank you, @Valgore. I played Ghost of Tsushima when it released on the PS4. I do have the PS5 upgrade, but plan to run through the game once more right before the sequel lands. Great game, has to be said...
@Cherip-the-Ripper
Oh I know I’m an outlier. I’m not in any way questioning the quality of the game, it just doesn’t appeal to me, as is the case with a lot of Sonys recent exclusives TBH.
@Sakisa 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️😂😂😂
Obviously you never played a PS4/PS5 Playstation exclusive!!
@jordan1992 Definitely have, love Ghost of Tsushima and Spider-Man.
Still confident Doom is the superior series though. Give me The Ultimate Doom any day over…most games pretty much. Nintendo’s got nothing on Doom either, short of the dead and buried Sin & Punishment series.
Yup, I will play God of War Ragnarok as soon as it comes to PC. For now I'm playing Forza Horizon 4 and Death Stranding and it's an incredible combo. Fun fact: I sold my PS5 within hours of making it available for sale, while it took 5 days to sell my XSX and I had to lower the asking price due to low demand. Pretty much tells the whole story. I'm still cheering for Xbox to finally release those bangers in 2023, but I will be buying them alongside Playstation 'exclusives' on PC.
ok MS i was nothing but reasonable as a fan ...i know that you had only 5 studios by 5 years ago and most studios are newly bought or already realsed their games multiplatfom not long ago...
i was happy with Halo infinite and horizon 5 scorn too but you gatta start delivering heavy weight games quarterly to compete !! as reasonable fan thats very aware of the all the problems and love the brand.....you have to stop being bruce banner and transform to the hulk and start smashing
