During today's 'Forza Monthly' livestream, developer Playground Games has provided an update on some pretty big Forza Horizon 5 features. The first of which is Expansion 2 news; that being that FH5's second major DLC isn't coming until next year.
Thankfully, we'll get an update on the expansion in the new year, where we should learn about its general theme among other details. Expansion 1 launched back in the summer, bringing Hot Wheels Park back to the Horizon festival.
Another major chunk of Forza Horizon 5 news is that Playground is expanding the game's ray tracing capabilities. Sadly these updates don't apply to the console version (yet), but if you're playing on PC, in-game ray tracing is now available.

You'll need a pretty beefy setup to get in-game RT working, but the team has now added some options via the game's new 'Ultra' and 'Extreme' PC settings. Both new options provide different levels of ray tracing support — as shown in the above chart — and the team has also showcased the kind of hardware you'll need to play on these new settings. Playground recommends aiming for 'Ideal Spec' to run Forza Horizon 5 with ray tracing:

Hopefully we hear about ray tracing support on console at some stage, but given that the feature's PC implementation requires the top settings, we're not sure we'll ever see it on console. Forza Horizon 6 maybe? We'll have to wait and see.
Are you excited to hear about expansion 2 in the new year? What about PC RT? Tell us down below!

Dang that's lame. Though I guess it is easier to add raytracing to PC when someone can just get a better component to make it run better versus a static console.
Expansion 2 in early 2023 makes me think Motorsport will be June 2023 or later. Back when Motorsport and Horizon were alternate years, Horizon DLC 2 released 5-7 months before Motorsport.
Im hoping the next expansion will give me a reason to jump back in. Hot wheels was superficially pleasing cause it looked cool, but theres zero challange and it became a bit boring even if it looked wow.
Having gotten board of 5, ive been playing back through the previous titles. I believe fh4 is the true gem and pinickle of this series, but its amazing how good the earlier titles were, even the original fh1 on 360 which I completed last week. Im playing fh2 now, and its urban areas are far better than in fh5 with a lot more variety, and it still has all the trafic of fh1, which fundementally changes how the game plays and makes the world far more alive than dead mexico.
Anyone after more horizon who hasnt played the earlier titles should do so. You can pickup the discs for a few quid on ebay and they play fine on series x, and you can still buy the expansions for fh4 (treasure island is fantasticly designed).
I prefered fh5 on pc as I prefer more than 30fps and the 60hz mode has too much pop in on series x for me. I was playing 4k 120hz, im hoping I can switch full rt on and keep 120hz, im running a 3090, so fingers crossed.
Im hopeful the next expansion for fh5 will offer a lot more than the first, as I want to like it far more than I do!
@InterceptorAlpha Definitely. Adding a feature on PC is basically just something they can say "here you go, if you got a great PC have fun" while adding it to a Series X will take a lot of optimization, especially considering how well optimized the game has been already on Xbox. I think they might just come up with a special ray tracing option or add it to the fidelity option.
Just hopped back into FH5 this week, what a game. Can’t wait for the next DLC.
I wonder if that picture of Colorado from FH1 is a clue? I keep dreaming about a remaster of that map using the FH5 engine.....
@RadioHedgeFund No, that picture has nothing to do with the next DLC. It's there because of the current event celebrating Forza Horizon's 10th anniversary which is still ongoing. It's been running for the last 3 weeks, with week 1 being all about FH1 and recreating some of the FH1 moments in FH5, like the festival site and racing Darius. If you zoom in you can even see the "Forza Horizon Anniversary" window sticker on that SRT Viper GTS.
@Titntin FH4 is the GOAT
5 came too early after 4, it's the second Xbox One/Series Horizon. Meanwhile, tons of Microsoft's IPs sleeping. At least, the full team will start working on Fable in early 2023.
As side note, I'd like a remaster of 1, the only entry I missed.
@Banjo-
I agree, too early and too much of the same as 4, though I still enjoy my time with it. Horizon needs a long rest and to come back eventually with much fresher ideas.
@TanaDy That's right.
