The 2023 FIFA World Cup starts later this month, and as part of this - Electronic Arts will be releasing its free 'World Cup' update for FIFA 23 on 9th November.
Players will be able to participate in the "full" FIFA World Cup 2022 experience as one of the 32 qualified nations. You'll also be able to customise your tournament experience - changing groups and subbing in select teams that didn't make the cut.
In the Online Tournament Mode, fans will play through the Knockout Stages as the qualified teams against other opponents online.
In addition to this, from 21st November to 18th December EA will be hosting a FIFA World Cup: Live event, which will be updated alongside the group and Knockout Stages of the real tournament. This will allow players to follow along with authentic fixtures and squads, and even rewrite the tournament.
"With Your FIFA World Cup™, players can choose a nation, select a live starting point from past or current matchdays, and play an authentic single player tournament inheriting all the real-world progress made to date – including the line-ups, match stats, and standings from the tournament so far – letting them take control of their favorite team’s destiny."
There'll also be some unique holiday FIFA Ultimate Team offerings - including brand new campaigns from 11th November to 23rd December, a World Cup Path to Glory event (on the same dates) and much more. You can get the full rundown on the EA FIFA website.

No separate WC FUT, only 2 stadiums.. very very weak. Really wish they still made stand alone WC games
Let’s be honest, It’s a free update and good for what it is. I do think the actual World Cup games that EA Sports brought out before were better than these FIFA updates but people didn’t like those either because it was another game you had to pay full price for so I’m happy enough with how they’re doing it these days.
@Techno92LFC i disagree. Most Fifa fans actually really enjoyed those separate releases. Especially people from countries that didn’t qualify, because of the extensive qualifying modes.
“It’s free anyway” is also a bad excuse. FIFA’s 12, 14 and 18 also had free updates and they had all the stadiums and the FUT modes were separate. This one’s a shoddy job.
Also keep in mind a significant number of people who only buy the stand alone games and the Fifas with WC/Euro themes. They specifically deserve better than this.
It is understandable they are focused on EAFC and couldn’t care less about caring for the FIFA license, but it’s a disservice to the fans
