Wild West action game Evil West launches on Xbox platforms later this month, and ahead of release, the folks over at Focus Entertainment have laid out the specs behind every version of the game. On Xbox platforms, there are some pretty big surprises when it comes to resolution and frame rate.
Perhaps the biggest surprise lies with the difference between the Xbox One X version and its Xbox Series S counterpart. Xbox One X hits 4K at 30 frames per second, while the Xbox Series S version only manages 1080p, 30FPS.
Over on Xbox Series X, the specs make for a bit better reading. Microsoft's most powerful console has two modes; a quality mode at 4K / 30FPS and a performance option gunning for 1080p and 60FPS.
While most of the specs here aren't that surprising, we'd have perhaps expected Xbox Series S to manage 1440p, and possibly squeeze in a performance option as well. On paper, Xbox Series S looks closer to the last-gen versions here, but we'll have to wait and see how things pan out on screen.
Would this put you off picking up Evil West? Let us know your thoughts down below.

Kind of interesting that you´ll get 1080p @60fps with a GTX 1060 and the quite a bit more powerful Series X getting the same output,,, Seems like they do not real know the newer consoles that well.
As a household we sold the PS5, purchased two Xbox Series S consoles with the funds and kept a bit of spare change, with the intention of getting an Xbox Series X in each room to replace them both eventually. I must say, reading things like this on the surface would make us wish to speed up that process.
Yet I don’t know whether it’s the TV sets we are playing on, or the fact I’m 36, but when I’m watching a film say, I can really notice the drop in say resolution and what not.
However, maybe due to being involved directly in a game, I don’t tend to notice these things nearly as much.
So it’s a two sided issue, I know the performance is better with the X, obviously, and I know it outputs a clearer image, thus articles like this and the fact it’s, well, a fact, make me want them instead.
Yet it just simply isn’t as noticeable as I’d have thought.
And I got new glasses last week, so I know it’s not that! Haha.
A surprisingly heavy game then. Will have to wait and see whether that's because it's astonishingly beautiful or just badly optimised...
And to just add, I am a tad confused as to why, though a budget machine, the Series S is getting the same graphics profile as say a 2013 PS4.
I’m aware the Series S is no juggernaut, but it’s no slouch either, and it’s certainly got a lot more capabilities when it comes to number crunching that a jaguar dated processor, lest I forget the SSD too.
I’m just all kinds of confused, as things just don’t seem to have jumped like I was expecting. Ray tracing is nice, but to be fair I’ve only noticed that on Fortnite. Many other games don’t look too different to the original baked versions when I’m quickly moving around.
So all in all, maybe I just expected too much from this generation.
It’s tough, I mean even the Xbox One X runs it at 4K/30fps. So it’s sort of a hard sell that we are moving forward when it’s so gradual it’s barely noticeable.
I will say, the speed of this gen is the standout to me. Otherwise I don’t see much of a difference.
@Sveakungen Yes that's a good spot. Hopefully they will improve upon this with patches down the line as it seems quite clear that the XSX and PS5 should be capable of higher resolutions at 60fps.
Tbh that's quite disappointing, considering it's a cross-gen game. Maybe they just didn't have enough time to fully utilize next gen consoles. However, it's weird because devs usually start testing their games on weaker systems and then move on more powerful machines. Who is to blame here, I wonder?
I just hope Flying Wild Hog can patch a performance mode post launch.
Likely not optimized and will get patched later as is the norm. With the large audience on series s you would think it would be a priority for optimizing with the other consoles. Maybe the stats show that most don't care? Or the devs just not prioritizing it?
If a game like cyberpunk can run at 60fps on the série s I don’t understand why this game can only run at 30fps , developers should always put the extra efforts to give série s owner a good experience, I guess they will release a patch in the coming months to fix this .
Gotta love the misleading title of this. Is this a pro Xbox news page or what?
I was on the fence. Now it is a wait for a sale. Hopefully they can add a 60fps option.
Another unoptimized pile of
Yikes. Might have to get this on pc then. I would have liked minimum 1440 60 fps for the series x.
@TheGrimOne what's misleading?
@Kezelpaso it's just the title of the post. It makes you think that it will only run at 30fps across the board. If you're like me (which I hope people aren't) it worries me. I meant no offense by it.
Edit - my apologies. I read the title wrong. I thought it mentioned Series X when it was the One X. I need to stop working night shifts.
1080p/60 nice, very nice
frankly its down to programming you really should be able to get better performance out of a xbox series X than xbox one X
@trev666 I would expect that the current gen consoles have more graphic features (such as Ray tracing) which would explain why they have the same resolution target at at same FPS compared to previous gen.
@TheGrimOne None taken, I was genuinely curious! No need to apologise, let's blame MS's dodgy console naming conventions 😄
@munstahunta that's what I'm saying. Just like Doom Eternal can run at 4K 120fps and 4k 60fps with Ray tracing.
@Cherip-the-Ripper yea, for Xbox One and PS4 almost 10 years ago.
1440p/4k 60fps or 1080p/1440p 120fps should be the absolute minimums for this generation. 30 fps should never be spoken of especially 1080p/30fps.
Did we go backwards a generation. We have the most powerful console hardware we've ever had yet we are going backwards with resolution and frame rate. One X has some games running 4K 60, and now I'm hearing that Series X is going to have games running at 1080p. I did not buy a QLED 4K 120hz TV with ALLM, VRR, HDR10+, Dolby Vision and all the other crazy bells and whistles they have these days for gaming, to play at 1080P or 30 fps. I don't rant much about stuff like this but it's getting a little ridiculous. I completely understand that games take forever to make (I come from a coder family) and they're more demanding and we had a worldwide pandemic and I am totally fine with waiting however long it takes to put a product out in a completed state. What I do have a problem with is the new games coming out having the same specs as 10-year-old games or older with the promise that it will get a patch or an update to make it the way it should be, at a later time. Okay, I'll buy it at a later time when it's actually finished, I'll get it used and pay $10 for it instead of buying it new and supporting the developer. I don't understand why all these developers are insisting that they release an unfinished product either in a completely broken unplayable state or releasing it in a stable playable state lacking features. All they are doing is squeezing the balloon and they need to just stop it. I feel that if this continues it will cause the entire video game industry to crash to some degree. I know this is no comparison, but my original Xbox had games running at 1080 and 60 fps even if it was probably only one game and 1080i. Okay, I'll shut up now.
@ZYDIO nah I'm saying 30fps for next gen consoles at only 1080p is just proper *****. now granted the game looks amazing I feel like we're getting shorted here with not even a 1440p option.
@ZYDIO Stuff like Doom Eternal runs on the fantastic ID Tech 7 engine. This a UE4 which generally isn't a great engine to get absolute great performance out of unless you're Epic or The Coalition.
I've said it multiple times, but the series s is last gen. Can't even compete with a last gen console. It's great value for those who do not care about 4K, but at the same time it's just holding this gen back.
Coding is hard and costs money! Here's the minimal effort we'll do for all our Payers...err....players.
Damn, the game runs the same on a One X or Series X, or One S and Series S, talk about lazy devs
Puzzles me how it can hit 4k on One X and not Series S. Poor optimisation surely?
