We've seen on countless occasions in the past that Xbox players have used the "New Zealand trick" as a way of getting access to new releases slightly earlier than planned, but Infinity Ward doesn't seem very happy about it for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Basically, this is where you change your region to New Zealand in order to play the game when it releases over there, which is easy to do on Xbox. The topic started getting attention on social media yesterday in relation to MW2:
However, Infinity Ward has warned that players will suffer a bad experience if they do this:
"If you are trying to change your console’s region setting in order to access early, you will experience connectivity issues and may be locked out of the game until the official launch time of your region."
For those who ultimately decide to ignore the warning and switch regions anyway, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is set to be made available at midnight in New Zealand, which lines up as 4am PST / 7am EST / 12pm BST later today.
In terms of the actual release times for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in every region, however, we've prepared a more exhaustive guide elsewhere on Pure Xbox. The short answer? It should officially unlock at midnight local time!
