Last month, Xbox announced that it was starting to make changes to the console dashboard — or Xbox Home page — for folks in the Xbox Insider program. Since then, we've seen the dash in action ahead of its wider release in 2023. Well before we get to the full release, the team has already begun making more changes to the preview version.
In this new build, users can add 'top groups' to the home screen, to access their chosen games and apps faster and easier. This looks more like the current dashboard setup, where collections of games, and indeed individual game pages, can be pinned to the dashboard.
In the new version, these pins are mixed in more liberally with Xbox's new "discovery content", which includes things like latest Xbox Game Pass additions and top free games. Here's a look at the new preview build in action:
A few other small changes have also been made to the Xbox home screen with this update, which you can check out over at the official Xbox website. Remember, Microsoft is making this a collaborative process, and the team wants plenty of feedback before it introduces the new dashboard to all Xbox users in 2023.
Is this a good change to the preview dashboard? Let us know your thoughts on it down below.

I hope they add those features to Xcloud browser plataform since the browser plataform looks a lot like the new dash board
Anyone that uses Xbox rewards app will know that most recent used tiles will probably be, Xbox rewards, Edge, Bing, Gamepass, Store. I hate most recent. Just let me choose what Games/apps i want on my home screen its not difficult
Wow that is insane amount of advertising. Just far to much bloat and eye strain looking at it. I want my UI clean simple and no clutter, kinda like my home decor. Clean and to the point not cluttered and taking your eyes all over the house to see what i have. This needs a lot of trimming down and after this is done they need to fix up the achievements tab and make it cleaner and improve the game pic resolution to at least 1440P or 4K. If that all got down i could easily say this UI would be great as it’s so close to being wonderful outside clutter.
The best improvement, I feel, would be to add a second Home screen customization option.
For example, for some people, they might want a ticker that shows the next three or four Game Pass games and another that shows the games they play either most or least.
While another person might want a ticker that shows the top four players who are in his friend list on achievement hunting and another that shows them ten or so 'recommended' achievements.
Forcing us to interleave our pinned games with things that are 'curated' as things 'everyone' wants removes some level of free agency. Let us pick what we want to see, so that, between our pinned games, we have the information we want, clear as day.
I prefer the Playstation approach. Clean with no advertising.
The user based concepts in that video are infinitely better than what MS is doing.
I wish they'd let us put as little content as possible on the home screen. It seems silly to give us the ability to put custom backgrounds on it and then cover up said backgrounds with clutter.
This looks like they have the engineers doing the design. Engineers are not designers. They take the designs and make them work. MS needs to get an actual graphic designer in there and stop letting the engineers make the UI decisions, because they're obviously terrible at it.
Have something like this as a "communal" home screen that loads when the system does, then when you press RB (or something) it switches to your personal homescreen that has the games/apps you choose. Have a couple of layouts for those who want their background visible and or fill the screen with tiles.
Just give me the option to leave it as it is now. It’s fine.
@YouTrash you can add what games you want to the home screen , the video doesn't show u that but after the pins if he added games to his home screen it would be there
User Interface Has become Advert Interface
Improvements? I Don't see any
"They're listening to the feedback" Obviously NOT
This is Garbage. 2 less Tile. Gamepass Before pins.
Next Dashboard Update Will be just Adverts and Gamepass
How can Nintendo in 2006 Have a better Dashboard than Xbox in 2022
@YouTrash you do know the dash BEFORE this one WAS ( last week ) just adverts and gamepass ? They didn't have pins/games pinned to the dash feature on it ...and you know it's in alpha stage ? A lot can change by next year
Who sent them the feedback that we need a search and settings UI on the home screen?
Like really, why? And Y.
@Martsmall Did you not see the video? I was talking about how they have sandwiched recently Added to Gamepass between Dashboard and the pins, You know when you scroll down. Plus only 5 Tiles now? last i checked we had 7.
Its not out till next year. They could make it even more of a disaster, they're clearly not listening to feedback.
@YouTrash Yes I did the video isn't showing the part where u can have pinned games ,you can have games pinned to the dash without them being in a group and I don't have to watch the video I have the dashboard ,
It goes like this
Something game pass ,
Pins group,
Pinned game ( which the video has none ), pinned game ( again the video has none ,
Something game pass ,
Pinned game ,etc etc
Edit
I've created a video to explain ,I apologize for the crudeness I have no capture card it's done by phone
https://youtu.be/a8x54fsNmAY
@Martsmall Well I dont like it. 2 less tiles on dashboard, Who the hell suggested that? All this forcing Gamepass down my throat, Think I'll be canceling my 2 Gamepass Ultimate subscriptions.
@YouTrash your getting me wrong I'm not defending it at all, I'm just saying the video doesnt show the full picture , ,but they have brought back pins /pinned games that they didnt have last week which I wanted , as far as all the other stuff they should get rid & hopefully they do
@benseac i agree 1000% with you. Not sure why outside of money they are so driven to clutter it. Less is more with UI’s
I hope that they remove the Your friends have more achievements than you or vice versa tile because I couldn't care less. I don't see it in this video. They should remove the sponsored tile, too.
There's 6 tiles in the new UI in the video, not 5. The UI that only had 5 in the video was a concept from a fan, not the actual one in the image for the article or most of the video.
It's not the end of the world, but I'm not sure why they are removing one. As much as I hate the UI team for the PS5, leaving issues that have been there since launch with no indication of fixing them and a lot of changes actually making things look or function worse, at least they added more tiles in an update earlier this year.
Honestly, from what I've seen so far I'd rather just keep what we already have on the Series X. They've been making small improvements to it, but this would be quite a step in the other direction imo. They could just make everything 4K (the tiles in the achievements section still never got that treatment) and even redo the way achievements are displayed (make it more like what PlayStation does with their trophies section on PS5), and they would have a really good UI. Still cluttered, but good otherwise.
i hear alot of people are upset with the new dashboard.. People think it covers the dynamic backrounds and the whole thing looks like a gamepass ad
