The XIII Remake got off to a horrendous start back in 2020, being called the worst Xbox game of the year by Metacritic, which led to publisher Microids promising to fix the game with the help of French developer Tower Five.
Well, today's the day! After a year of working on the update, it's now available for free on Xbox One, and the game has also been released for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S with the new features. Here's what you can look forward to:
Microids says Tower Five has "reworked the entire game from the Art Direction to the AI and added numerous technical improvements", along with the "highly awaited online multiplayer mode for up to 13 players".
"We really wanted to take the time to fix the game and offer owners of XIII Remake a free update paying the best possible tribute to the original game we all love. We can’t wait for players to put their hands on this improved version of the game and (re)discover the classic adventures of Agent XIII..."
If you already own XIII Remake on Xbox One, you should find that the free update and upgrade to Xbox Series X and Series S is available right now, and it sounds like first impressions are pretty positive so far:

I find it very funny how the main character from the artwork is the doing same exact pose as Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell Conviction.
As a fan of the original XIII, It's good to know they've actually made the remake playable after that complete sh*t show of the 2020 release.
I wonder if this will come to gamepass?
Wasn't the remake famously panned and touted as an insult to the original and the comics?
Getting real tired of developers think it is okay to release a steaming pile, then fix it literal years later.
And I wish people would quit enabling this.
I actually got this when it went on sale on Xbox a while back simply out of curiosity, and it wasn't as bad as it was made out to be. That said glad they gave it some proper attention, I'll have to download it on my Series X and give it a go again.
@InterceptorAlpha the developer who did the fix/overhaul isn't the same developer that originally made the remake. I'm assuming Microids washed its hands of them altogether.
I agree that it's absolutely not acceptable for a game to be released in this state in the first place, but I am happy that this overhaul was done; a lot of companies would've walked away from the whole thing.
Haven't played the first remake and have the new remake pre-ordered so I won't be downloading this update at all.
@Markatron84 Better to leave it dead. Half the issues aren't even "patchable". If corrected, will ultimately result in a whole new game being built.
@InterceptorAlpha I doubt the people who bought the game would agree with you there. They're probably happy that the game they bought has been improved.
What issues aren't patchable?
One of those "wait for it to go on sales" games. I'm please they actually put some time to redo it, I wish other publishers would allow that.
