EA has announced today that the base game of The Sims 4 will be going free-to-play across all platforms beginning on October 18th, including Xbox One, Series X and Series S. Just download it, and you'll be able to play for free!
Plus, if you're a subscriber to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you'll be able to access The Sims 4 Get To Work Expansion Pack as part of a special "EA Play Edition" on the same day, while everyone who actually buys The Sims 4 until October 17th will also receive the Desert Luxe Kit as a thank you from EA.
Moving forward, EA says its team is "more dedicated than ever" to continue "developing new and meaningful The Sims 4 experiences for our players", with more information to be revealed in a special stream on October 18th.
"With The Sims 4 going free to play, our team is more dedicated than ever to developing new and meaningful The Sims 4 experiences for our players and we will continue to develop and release packs, kits and Sims Delivery Express drops into the foreseeable future."

Considering the Sims' history of churning out loads and loads of extra DLC I guess it makes sense it's going free to play. I think this'll be a business move that'll make EA a load of money.
I enjoyed the Sims when it first came out, and I enjoyed Sims 3 but 4 just seemed more like a pay to win model then the previous games. While I didn't mind the expansions for the older games, 4 just seemed to want to nickel and dime the consume which is why I never got it.
With that said I may check it out for free.
First hit is free Kiddies. Then get your parents wallet and the REAL fun begins!
I liked it better the old way, where you paid once for the game and all the fan created mods and content were free, and anyone with a little bit of graphic design or 3D modeling knowledge could put whatever they wanted in the game.
Will it ever be The Sims 5?
Gamepass members get an expansion & people who actually bought the game get a lousy 'kit' that's some BS
