Scorn developer Ebb Software has revealed eight full minutes of Scorn gameplay ahead of the title's Xbox Game Pass launch next month. This one freaks us out every time we see it to be honest, but we're still going to give the game a go when it releases on October 21st!
This new gameplay sequence goes through the very start of the game, as you approach Scorn's first "grotesque" puzzle. The team certainly got the description right anyway, as you wheel around a strange, deformed creature in some sort of weird chair thing to solve said puzzle. Here's how the developer describes the full experience:
Scorn is an atmospheric first-person horror adventure game set in a nightmarish universe of odd forms and somber tapestry. It is designed around the idea of “being thrown into the world”. Isolated and lost inside this dream-like world, you will explore different interconnected regions in a non-linear fashion. The unsettling environment is a character itself.

The wait has been so long...good to see that the game is almost available.
I notice, too, that, for some odd reason, the pricing in the Mexican Xbos Store is strangely low (about $16).
I'm looking forward to this but I do hope that as much time as been spent on the gameplay as the art style
Defo going to be playing this...unless it gets some abysmal reviews across the board lol
Been looking forward to this. It looks and sounds great I just hope the gameplay is fun.
Looks like trying to get into my mates house at night, who lives in inner city Liverpool.
Looks awesome, fingers crossed it's a great experience!
Despite the synopsis and a comment from one of the developers I saw on Twitter stating there isn’t a ton of gunplay, I still don’t know what the game is. The environments are cool, and I’ll definitely play the game, but I have a feeling this will get a mixed reception similar to “The Medium.”
I always assumed it was a walking sim game walk about explore solve some puzzles for 5 hours done am i wrong in this assumption?
Love the art style but as other posts point out the gameplay is the part that'll make or break this. Still I'm hopeful.
It does not look good to me.I haven't played The Medium, but i know that it isn't like that.I will not play Scorn even though it will be on Game Pass soon to which I am a member. Why did you mention The Medium when you talked about Scorn?
Looking forward to trying this one out. No idea how I’ll feel about it and that’s always a welcome feeling.
Alannah (ex-IGN and now working for Sony Santa Monica) did an hour long playthrough of the opening 'preview' mission on PC. Its not the 'best' visually due to her having to go 'low res' to work with her Ultra-Wide monitor, but it does give you a great indication of the structure and certainly highlights the 'lack' of any hand-holding and/or guidance the game gives to the player.
It comes across as a 'Puzzle' game primarily and you have to work out what you need to do to progress through by exploration, trial and error. Its not a 'FPS' game at all but more a creepy Puzzle game. I do hope there is some more to it than just beating all the Puzzles, that there is something to discover about the Character, the setting and the Puzzles themselves and not just a nameless, blank character trying to escape some 'hellish' situation with no context to who, why, how, what etc led to this situation.
I'm still interested in this - even though I don't really play 'Puzzle' games and prefer more action than thought based games but the setting, the artstyle and the grotesque design appeals to me. I would have loved a FPS with a strong narrative with this artstyle, setting and atmosphere so maybe Ebb can do that 'next' - expand on this for a 'return/sequel'.
At least, like the Medium, I can try it for 'Free' on Game Pass and let the Game dictate to me whether or not I play it to completion. If it doesn't keep my interest, I haven't lost ANYTHING (apart from a bit of 'time'). The more it interests me, the more time I'll give it so it really depends on the Devs to make their games hold their audiences attention because that will lead to maximum returns from Sub services. It's not so bad for sales based games as they already have your money if you don't enjoy the game - you've lost that money and time and the Devs got paid. On GP, they get more if the game is good - bonuses for player engagement, people more likely to buy to keep and/or recommend after playing...
Anyway, it interests me enough to want to give it a go...
First heard about this game in 2014 when it was initially announced. It took them eight years to make this game, not sure why. Let's hope it doesn't suck.
This game looks so dang crunchy I want to put it in a bowl and eat it with milk like it's Grape Nuts.
@SplooshDmg even since the earliest videos, you could almost feel the man had worked on it himself.
That, and that alone, is what this has been on my radar ever since.
Will it get a physical release?
