Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has announced Like a Dragon 8 today as part of the RGG Summit 2022, confirming that it will be coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S at some point in 2024.
Just like Yakuza: Like a Dragon, it will take the form of a turn-based RPG. Further details are pretty minimal at the moment as Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio wants to remain tight-lipped, but apparently Kiryu and Ichiban are the main protagonists, Kiryu will have his own party, and Kiryu Kazuma's hair colour has changed for a specific reason.
Here's the brief blurb from the announcement trailer:
"Stay tuned for more info regarding the larger-than-life turn-based RPG sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon."

So the 'Yakuza' series has officially been renamed to 'Like a Dragon'? and the sequel to 'Yakuza: Like a Dragon' is called 'Like a Dragon 8'... not confusing at all. lol
@themightyant It has always been called Like a Dragon in Japan, they probably thought the introduction of a new cast in 7 was a good spot to merge back to the original title
@Kaloudz It's the official Japanese title for the games. Ryy ga gotoku literally means like a dragon, which was also the name of the games in Japan. For western releases they got renamed to Yakuza. i wonder if they will keep the Like a dragon name now which is the original name or they will actually release as Yakuza Ishin and Yakuza Like a dragon 2.
Hype! YLAD was incredible!
Although I'm not sure where I stand on Kiryu being back, as I like Ichiban way more and I hoped the new saga would distance itself a bit from the old one. Also, I don't really like having multiple characters or parties, but hey...let's wait and see!
@Lavalera Thanks. I knew it was called Ryu Ga Gotoku in Japanese and that was the name of the studio, but I didn't know that translated to 'Like a Dragon'. Still it IS confusing for western gamers who won't have your knowledge.
@Kaloudz @themightyant
I fully understand your confusion and i do hope that at the time it will release they will just use the western name. I think and expect since these announcements were made by RGG itself in Japanese all other communication will be made with the western names. So i assume it will be Yakuza Ishin and Yakuza like a dragon 2, but i'm not sure
@Lavalera Sega of America is referring to them as Like a Dragon. Personally i'm happy to leave "Yakuza" behind. Unfortunate localization from when they were trying to market these games as "japanese GTA"
@Carck Yeah from what i read now on other sites it seems to be an official name change. Totally fine with that, but it's going to confuse people who know the series as Yakuza. It wasn't clear in the stream there was an actual name change, so i can understand it now confuses people who didn't know the Japanese name of the game series and that it was the same as the studio name.
2024 feels so far away 😢
This is like the Rambo movies. Betting the next one is gonna be just "Kazuma" if Kiryu has protagonism again.
