Halo 3: ODST is currently celebrating its 13th anniversary. Yes, believe it or not, the game was originally shipped for Xbox 360 back in 2009. Since then, it's also made the jump across to Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
One living legend who is rather familiar with this game is Joseph Staten. The head of creative on Halo Infinite was a writer and director for ODST, and it seems he would be interested in doing something like this again - responding to the following Halo tweet, noting how this particular game remains "the highlight" of his career:
"Halo 3: ODST remains the highlight of my game development career. And it's an example of why I love the @Halo universe: it's a place where we can tell countless different kinds of stories. I would love to do something like ODST again someday. #PrepareToDrop"
Halo 3: ODST was one of Bungie's later releases, that mixed action with investigative / detective sequences and film noir-style themes. Instead of Master Chief, players took control of a member of the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers.

Just as soon as they figure out how to shoehorn unwanted live service elements into the formula
Not sure where Halo Infinite goes from now.
there is potential after the initial campaign.
And I thought about every two years we were going to get campaign expansions to explore more of Zeta etc.
if that happens they need to up the graphics, effects and biomes etc. Add some big battle like scarab moments etc.
not sure about the multiplayer as don’t play it, but from what I hear it is almost gone past the point of bad return and not even in the top 100 count thing or whatever it is measured on.
How about addressing the issues with Infnite first, content, promised coop, sync issue, and then talk about new stuff
Where are the new campaign missions for Infinite first? As slightly unintelligible as the plot for the game was, the campaign is THE highlight of anything on the Xbox Series consoles right now, in my opinion. I honestly loved playing the campaign. Had a lot of fun with it. 9/10 for me, regardless of the mess that is Infinite multiplayer.
I wouldn’t mind if 343 dropped Infinite’s multiplayer though and just jumped in on a new game that goes back to what Halo mp did right in the first place. They need to learn that Halo is a party game as an FPS first and foremost and base things around that concept. They could just use everything from Infinite and reboot it with new maps and old leveling systems and people would probably love it.
Do a collaboration with Sony and get Bungie to make it. It goes multiplatform but atleast Halo would be good again
@Kaloudz
Would be good to have and make some classic Halo large scale battles on Zeta.
I think ODST would've been the strategy that would've worked best for Infinite. Instead of FTP multiplayer, the multiplayer being the continued support for MCC and Halo 5 (the ODST physical copy came with Halo 3 multiplayer) meanwhile Infinite's focus being on campaign and PvE.
@Kaloudz
Gameplay FPS wise the campaign was spot on.
Campaign itself was good to a point.
Environmentally and graphically and effects and biome wise a bit of let down, especially after six years. I think 343i must have slept for at least three of those six years 😂
ODST is probably just about my favourite of all of the Halo games. I've enjoyed all of the campaigns, completed them all solo on Legendary, but wandering around the map in ODST (and often getting lost!) was just about the the best experience I have had in any Halo game. I also really enjoyed the way the story was told, and finding the recordings that told small stories of how events had unfolded. Would absolutely love to see something similar again...
Give ID software a crack at an ODST game.
@Kaloudz
True we should announce them as the most Sleepy Studio.
Wonder what Phil really thinks of them when no one is listening.
@Kaloudz
Would love a one hour chat with Phil
no question unanswered all truth and behind closed doors.
I'm kinda bored with the master chief story. I would welcome another odst or something similar.
@Dezzy70 I agree about the campaign. I overall really enjoyed this one as a base to start from. But this is also with the assumption that further expansions would be coming. The lack of big battles (et. Scarab battles) was noticeable like you said. But I still have hope with this story. It’s a better story to build from than Halo 5, that’s for sure, and in many ways acted as a good reset.
@xMightyMatt14x
Easily expandable, we explored a tiny part of zeta and only one biome.
Imagine what playground games or the coalition could have done with Halo Infinite had they been given the task for 6 whole years.
Would have been outstanding and the game the franchise and us gamers really deserved.
