EA has created a brand-new development studio to help build the Battlefield series moving forward. Ridgeline Games is a new Seattle-based team under the EA banner, and it's been spun up to start developing a "narrative campaign set in the Battlefield universe". Here's what the studio's game director and ex-Halo dev, Marcus Lehto, had to say about the project:
"It is a great honor to have the opportunity to collaborate with DICE and Ripple Effect and lead the charge on expanding the narrative, storytelling and character development opportunities in the Battlefield series."
Lehto isn't the only famous name now behind EA's Battlefield series either. Respawn Entertainment founder Vince Zampella is now the overarching head of Battlefield, and he's chimed in on the new EA startup as well.
"We’re continuing to invest in the future of the franchise by bringing in new talent and perspectives [...] With Marcus and his team at Ridgeline Games joining the world-class global team we have already in place, Battlefield is in the strongest position to succeed."
DICE's latest series entry, Battlefield 2042, famously skipped a narrative campaign of any kind in favour of focusing on the series' signature multiplayer action. Going forward, it looks like story campaigns will be a big part of the Battlefield franchise.

On the subject of Battlefield, when will the 2042 hit EA access?
Does Battlefield really have much of a story?
The most recent one didn't even have a campaign so it doesn't strike me as a rich universe for a single player game unless it's literally just the campaign the most recent game was missing...
@Widey85
The main Battlefield stories are nothing to write home about really, but the BF Bad Company games had properly fleshed out campaigns and rather quite good in my humble opinion 😀.
The story mode is the only reason i play Call of Duty and Battlefield. I could personally not care less about the multiplayer aspect of any game ever made. Personal opinion.
I like the sound of a campaign
How to improve Battlefield... just make Titanfall 3 and call it Battlefield
Bad Company 3 pleeeease.
EDIT: or what @antstephenson #8 said. lol
@Xiovanni There's nothing wrong with DICE. What there is a problem with is expecting them to put out a polished ground-breaking next-gen game with very-little wiggle room on launch, especially during the upheaval of a pandemic.
You see what almost every other game has done recently? Delayed.
You see what Battlefield did? Came out unfinished and unpolished.
Yes there were some fundamental bad design and development decisions but the biggest issue was rushing an unfinished game out. Needed at least 12 more months in the oven.
