Atomic Heart has been one of the highlights of the upcoming Xbox Game Pass titles for 2022 all year, but it looks like it won't be dropping in 2022 anymore, as it's officially been pushed back to "winter" after landing a deal with a publisher.
That publisher is Focus Entertainment, which is also publishing A Plague Tale: Requiem on Xbox Game Pass next month. Here's what Focus's chief business development officer Julien Ramette had to say in a press release today:
“It’s an honor to collaborate with a studio as talented as Mundfish. We were amazed by Robert and his teams’ creative minds as soon as we started exchanging. The AAA standards they’ve provided for their first game is truly an accomplishment. Atomic Heart is sure to honor all players in search of an original, new generation experience.”
The new "winter" release window suggests we're looking at anywhere between the very last bit of 2022 (but that seems unlikely) to late March of 2023, and apparently an official release date will be revealed in the near future.
A little bit longer to go, then, but hopefully Atomic Heart will be worth the wait on Xbox Game Pass. We were recently treated to a new gameplay trailer at Xbox's Gamescom stream the other week, which you can watch below:
How are your hype levels for Atomic Heart right now? Let us know in the comments.

This game looks great...but no doubt will settle around the 70s on metacritic....still one I am looking forward too
@StylesT good thing i never look for game scores in metacritic
I didn't know this one was coming to Game Pass. Not sure if it's for me, but I'll gladly try it.
Yeah that’s disappointing…but pretty expected. Shame Xbox isn’t publishing it..hopefully the gamepass day 1 deal still stands
And in Twitter fashion, people started attacking Focus for working with a Russian game studio. Quite disgusting, considering it's a game made by ordinary people. I for one am super excited to try this out on Game Pass!
Well, at least Gamepass had Immortality this year!
But anyway, I’m looking forward to Atomic Heart regardless. The problem with all these games getting slogged to 2023 though is that… honestly there’s a lot of titles to compete against for time now. Depending on how the game reviews and when it launches to compete with Forspoken, Hogwarts, Starfield, and RE4, it’s hard to know if or when I’ll play it. A shame. I feel like that’s how it’s going to go for a lot of games next year if the release schedule stays so thick. I mean, with two Final Fantasies, a Bethesda title, and BotW2 coming already, it’s a tough year to wager for time for these types of behemoth titles coming.
@UndyingInsurgent95 That’s why MS have been distancing themselves from this a bit. It will be interesting to see if this and stalker 2 hit the same month next year…and what the reception is for both…and how MS push both via gamepass
@Bleachedsmiles It's definitely a tricky situation considering.. Let's hope it all works out for Mundfish and MS.
