Listen, we don't want to get your hopes up or anything, because we thought we'd have seen it by now, but it seems there's a good chance the GoldenEye 007 remaster/remake could show up on the day of Xbox's Gamescom 2022 show.
Why? Because it's also the date of GoldenEye 007's 25th anniversary. The game first launched for the Nintendo 64 on August 25th, 1997, and exactly 25 years later, Xbox is hosting a day-long livestream from Gamescom in Germany.
We know for a fact that this Xbox version of GoldenEye 007 exists, as the achievements even appeared on the official Xbox website a couple of months ago, but the latest rumour is that the release has been "in limbo because of the war".
We haven't heard anything about an August 25th release for this Xbox port, but it just seems like there's a good possibility it'll show up in some fashion at Gamescom this year. But then again, we were saying that about E3 as well...
Do you think GoldenEye 007 for Xbox will finally be revealed on August 25th? Give us your predictions below.

I'm gonna be honest, I still don't see this happening, but if it does, awesome, but I still...
@CRAZYGREG0511 Yeah, agreed. It seems this remaster/remake will never see the light of day...
Let's hope I am wrong, as Goldeneye is one of my favourite games of all time.
I'm going to guess no because Nintendo haven't given Advance Wars a new release date yet.
Unless this is more than just a simple port or remaster, I guess I don't really understand the excitement. This game is very old and dated at this point.
@HarmanSmith Goldeneye was one of my all time favorite games, and today I still have it and a working N64, both still working.
Pleeeeeease.... 🙏🥺♥
I don't actually believe it anymore... will that change anything
Just bloody well release this already please! This would probably be the last hope for any announcement on this and it would be perfect to do so on the 25th anniversary.
I sort of hope not, was great back in the day and the extra level structure for completing on harder difficulty levels was brilliant and should be used a lot more.
But every time I try to play an old game, wow nostalgia goes yay, gameplay and everything else goes, oh dear how time has moved on and things improved and I stop after minutes of playing.
I also try it on my kidults and it’s the same they just find them clanky to play and move about and dull and boring to look at etc.
It’s like playing a 1990s car came after playing FH5.
@CRAZYGREG0511 How fortunate!
I lost my N64 and my Goldeneye copy when my house flooded some years ago.
I played the remake (you know, the one with Daniel Craig) on PS3. It was good, but it didn't have the magic
@HarmanSmith Sorry to hear that, hope you find one in your life eventually, and maybe hoping for this rumor to finally happen. And yeah, it wasn’t a bad game, but it sure wasn’t on par with what the original had. Just felt like a COD style game almost.
@CRAZYGREG0511 Thank you!
Yes, the remake was mostly a COD style FPS. Good, but nothing more.
And yes, as many people say, the original has dated, but I love it anyway.
@BBB @RicebinBernacky
GoldenEye is a masterclass in how to adapt a film to a game faithfully, while taking just enough liberties so as to flesh out the adventure a bit more.
It's also excels in its mission design, adding additional objectives to higher difficulty levels encouraging multiple playthroughs, plus allowing for most levels to be approached in multiple ways. Not to mention the challenge of unlocking all the level cheats as a bonus. It's a masterpiece, and blows away any crappy COD or most other modern FPS titles as a whole package. Look at Activision's 007 Legends or Quantum of Solace by comparison. They're terrible, and the GoldenEye reimagining is just "Call of Bond". 😫
Oh god another article about this 🙈 if it was releasing wouldnt it have made sense for it to have been announced at the showcase they've just had focusing on everything releasing within the next 12 months lol
@EVIL-C You're so right!
@Would_you_kindly I guess you're right.
As much as I have been excited for this. Why do we have to regurgitate this idea once a month, just to not have it happen? Just let it go and be happy when it releases.
@FraserG Pssst...
"Why? Because it's also the date of GoldenEye 2007's 25th anniversary."
I assume that should be GoldenEye 007?
@Markatron84 It should, thank you!
I agree with all the wise comments above appreciating Goldeneye 007 (1997). This is the opposite of rose-tinted glasses, negative people need to take their UHD glasses off and see how wonderful the gameplay and level design still is and that's why the game is one of the best FPS ever made, if not the best. Still. Yeah, it's low-poly, low-fps and low-res but that all can be fixed and it's not as important as the game itself. The Perfect Dark remaster proves it. The Goldeneye Xbox 360 remaster was almost finished and unofficially released and I assume this is the Xbox 360 remaster with a new list of achievements and the original graphics switch.
Just release it at once! On the 25th!

I would say it is quite likely announced and released (but the whole war can still mess the plans I guess...)
Stop with the hype articles. I remember they posted in June saying it’s certain to be revealed during the Xbox presentation. Let’s not hype and disappoint us any more.
@RicebinBernacky I could watch Todd Browning's Freaks every month it is that great a movie at 90 years old. Not saying Goldeneye is that good but I get why people want to play classics without having to resort to a retro set up or likely sub par emulation.
Quake Remastered was announced and released the same day at Quakecon, so it's possible Microsoft do the same thing here. I can see it happening, but I would not want to bet any money on it.
@Banjo- "This is the opposite of rose-tinted glasses, negative people need to remove their UHD glasses"
I really agree. I don't get this 'recent bias' or 'recent snobbery' that goes on in gaming circles.
The Last of Us was called a masterpiece 9 years ago. Today, it's ugly and unplayable and in need of a total remake (which isn't even happening). I can almost guarantee what gets called a masterpiece, based purely on looks. There was a game shown, and all we really saw was some cool snow tech, and without fail, people called it a future masterpiece.
The standards by which people judge games is a joke.
Still pretty skeptical, but hope springs eternal I guess 😂 I'd love to be proven wrong.
@Richnj That's a good example because Naughty Dog's games are called masterpieces for the graphics and the voice acting alone even when the gameplay is clunky and the story is so-so.
@Banjo- I totally agree with you.
I still don't understand what it is so special about certain games, like TLoU.
It has quality, yes, but it is always called "a masterpiece" and I simply can't see it that way.
@HarmanSmith I don't understand it either. It didn't even scare me, just disgusted me. The gameplay is clunky like in the first Uncharted games. They look good, yes, but the Tomb Raider games look even better and have much better gameplay than TLoU and Uncharted. There are much better horror games (Resident Evil), if that's what TLoU pretends to be. It must be the fact that they have a cinematic production and that most Sony exclusives are obviously overrated. Still, I don't understand why critics would care more about cinematic values than gameplay and level design when reviewing games.
@BBB if you didn't play it back in the day then of course you wouldn't have the same experience and memories as someone like me who did. Like, duh... 🤷♂️ However, nothing would stop you from trying the re-release, if it ever does come out. Or you can do what I did and download the ROM of the leaked XBLA version. I did in early 2021 and had an absolutely fantastic time with it yet again.
@Banjo- Now that you mentioned it, the Tomb Raider games are great, imo.
But they are not regarded as "masterpieces to end all masterpieces".
@EliSweetG Hope your words would come true!
@CRAZYGREG0511 they have been unlocking achievements on it for months it's the war with Russia that's delayed the game and other games
@Balta666 they have been unlocking achievements in the game for months because they have been tracked, it's the war that is delaying it and other games
@CRAZYGREG0511 it's because they have been tracked unlocking achievements for it, the war is delaying it and other games
@HarmanSmith you could get another N64 and Goldeneye back. I wish I kept my older console, I only have a Gamecube, PS2,PS3Pro, Vita, 3DSXL Xbox One X and other's
