The highly-anticipated Harry Potter game Hogwarts Legacy will sadly no longer be launching in its "Holiday 2022" window, having been pushed back to February 10th, 2023. The news was announced on social media earlier today.
In the message, it was explained that the developers simply need a bit longer to deliver the "best possible experience":
It's a bit of a bummer that Hogwarts Legacy won't be ready for the Christmas period, but it's only a delay of a couple of months, and we're really hoping it's able to live up to its potential when it finally arrives next year.
In the meantime, we were treated to a leak of a cinematic from the game this time last week...

Hogwarts Legacy does not exist in a vacuum. There are important discussions being had about the views and opinions held by the creator of the Harry Potter universe – views and opinions which we do not agree with.
Our goal is to create and foster a positive environment for people – all people – to discuss and celebrate video games, not to amplify ignorance or provide a forum for unconstructive arguments. As per our community rules, we do not accept any form of hate speech on our platform.
Not long a delay and at least at date for release is now given. Better than the next 12 months buff we got from all Xbox studio main AAA games.
The way it’s going Xbox could have a great Christmas if they had AAA out, now it’s all PlayStation and Nintendo Christmas Joy.
Not surprised one bit, called it months ago this was going to get delayed. Wouldn't be surprised if this gets delayed again TBH. This will not be the last one, either. There will be more delays, people will just have to get over it and play what's available. No use complaining about it when the whole industry is effected.
Good old working from home strikes again 😂
Sounds like they're having some difficulties with the Switch version.
This is just the beginning wait for all the delays in 2023...
The only game I was waiting for this year.
The good thing about this delayed release is that I'm going to stay focused on my sport.
It's a blessing in disguise 😃
Companies need to stop giving definitive dates for games and instead give people release windows. Its getting to the point where we need to add 3-6 months to the initial release date for every game.
@Kaloudz have low expectations and you’ll never be disappointed again. Nintendo taught me that with every direct. Lol
@themightyant BOTW 2 coming 2026. You heard it hear first. As long as it's 60 fps and not 30 I'd wait that long too lol
@themightyant I'm afraid you might be right. Most of the big games get a delay now and some even multiple delays. 2023 won't be different from that. Next year we'll probably say 2024 will be such an amazing year like we said about 2022 and 2023 as well
Knew it. Although I thought it would be a longer delay.
@J_Mo_Money Now don't YOU go breaking my heart. 😂 😢
@Lavalera very true. But I do think 2023 will be a big year regardless of the inevitable delays.
But games take longer and longer to make, delays have become the norm. I’m hoping the lesson from this will be NOT to announce dates so early, but the industry is a slow study at times.
It was smart to give a window and not commit to a release date too early. They have given a launch date which seems reasonable and i'm happy with the timing of the communication. I expect most games without a release date by the end of this month for 2022 to be pushed back into 2023. I'm okay with that. Still lots of good games out this year!
At least the Switch has big titles coming out the rest of the year!
I wonder if the large swathe of delays are coming from devs working on both last gen and next gen versions of games simultaneously. It’s a real shame, but I’m willing to wait for the game.
There was never any official release date for this anyway just a vague holiday 2022
@somnambulance & Sony with GOWR in November
@Brazenology this game didn't have a definitive date it was just holiday 2022 now it's a few months later
Sad to see it’s not fall/winter like originally speculated, but a delay is never a bad thing, disappointing sure, but not bad.
@Would_you_kindly Indeed. I don’t have much interest in GOW, but I’m feeling I may pick up a title or two that I wouldn’t have purchased otherwise simply due to the delays this year. I’ve essentially got JRPG as my genre for the rest of the year, and I know I’ll get gaming fatigue doing that to myself. Lol
@somnambulance I'm looking forward to it got that & the resident evil village dlc about a week before it
@Would_you_kindly Village DLC has a shot at making my top ten games list this year. First year in my gaming life I’ve ever felt not just one, but two DLCs would make my list (the Cuphead dlc has topped many games I’ve played this year). Lol. Really looking forward to it though. Pokémon is the only “big” title left this year that I’m waiting for at the moment, personally. Feels weird. There’s hardly even any indie titles coming. Hope there’s still a surprise or two for the year with releases.
This is a shame but at least plague tale 2 still comes out for the day after I buy a series x. With the amount of games I decided to skip in the last 2 years of ps4 to play on next gen, I have plenty til then, plus quite a few games still on the 360.
Hopefully it will definitely come out in Feb.
Disappointed as it would have been great for Christmas, but I'd rather they release a good game than a broken/incomplete one.
