Back in June, Kojima Productions and Microsoft finally confirmed their partnership, with the two companies now working together on a brand-new Xbox game. It had been rumoured and reported on for months prior as well, following the release of Kojima's PlayStation exclusive Death Stranding.
We've seen nothing on the game so far mind; we didn't even get a title when the thing was announced! However, are we about to see this Hideo Kojima Xbox title in action?
The famous game maker has taken to Twitter to let us all know that he's "tentatively finished" editing something, something that, knowing Kojima's love of extravagant game trailers, could be just that - a new trailer of some sort.
This update has also been shared suspiciously close to Gamescom 2022. The upcoming convention takes place August 24-28, with Xbox hosting its own livestream on August 25th. Microsoft hasn't confirmed that any details on the Kojima project will be shared here, but could it be a showcase surprise? We'll continue to hold out hope, for now.
Are you looking forward to Kojima's upcoming Xbox game? Let us know what you'd like to see!

I know Kojima means a 'LOT' to some gamers, but I can't think of any Kojima game that I enjoyed and/or really excited to play. I will keep my eye on whatever new information comes and decide whether its something I'm really looking forward to playing, something that might be worth trying as its 'free' on Game Pass, or of no interest at all (like Death Stranding, MGS etc) - same with all 'new' games...
Still, it will be interesting to see and hear what Kojima is planning to do - especially if its a Cloud only based game that has been rumoured for quite a while. I'm interested to see and hear how the game utilises the cloud and what that will enable him to do...
@BAMozzy same here for me I think he's far too overrated ,some ppl like his games I don't ,maybe this one will b more my taste we shall see
@SplooshDmg Me too.
I'm more upset that kojima couldnt be bothered with a mgs4 port, so now we're stuck with never seeing it outside of the ps3 or streaming. Unless...
There's always something special in his games even those with flaws. With death stranding it was the interesting courier mechanics, narrative and soundtracks that really appealed to me. If I understand correctly he is planning for this to be a streamed game? Would that allow for devices to play more computationally heavy games maybe? (Not an expert)
He’s one of the most imaginative and creative devs producing AAA consoles games today. They’re rarely perfect 10/10…but I’d say they’ve all been memorable and stick with anyone that plays them.
I’m really looking forward to seeing what he can do with the cloud. I’m hoping it will be a chapter based horror game that will use your location some how (local news or something) and really add to a sense of familiarity in a dark twisted environment. I’m sure whatever it is the trailer will be decent anyways.
I really want to hear more from team ninjas horror too…that’s been way too quiet.
I thought it was apparent this cloud game is still very early on in development
@SplooshDmg sounds interesting. Thanks
I’ve never been the biggest Kojima fan, I like his games, but I never understood the obsession over him. With that said, after a long time of making fun of Death Stranding, I decided to give it a try and I loved it, it was truly a unique game. I’m more interested in his work now than I have been in the past, though I’m still not clamoring for his next game.
@Odium I still vividly remember MGS4 as one of the best games I have ever played. It is true that DS was not exactly everyone's cup of tea. But he is probably one of the last video game authors/directors with full creative control and vision on how to make his games (as absurd as they may be). In an age of designed-by-board-of-directors products across all forms of entertainment, he is something to be cherished.
One of the last true visionaries left in this buisness, he still has the influence to design and build a game without pandering to the marketting teams of big corps.
Whilst his appeal is certainly not universal, and his designs are sometimes willfully obscure, Konima's projects should be celebrated as an anthesis of the 'cookie cutter' 'design by committe' titles so often green lighted by boardrooms chasi g profits over creativity.
Based on previous experiences, I expect theres only a 30% chance of me loving a new Kojima game. But theres a 100% chance I will find it interesting and worthy of thought, and I think our industry would be far healthier if we had several such designers able to pursue pure concepts.
@BAMozzy that's a "you" problem
@BrilliantBill if there’s one thing I’ve always given him credit for and admired him for it was his ability to innovate. I’m 37 and have been gaming most of my life, to this day, I still can’t think of a boss battle that blew my mind more than Psychomantis. I struggle to think of a moment outside of X-Men on SEGA Genesis that had a moment where you had to rush to hit and hold the reset button or you got game over, that had such a unique in game mechanic.
I’ve just usually struggled with his stories and his balancing of weird and real world. It’s his style, so I respect that, I’m certainly not one to tell Kojima to do something different, I just don’t always feel that the weird characters and story moments he throws into his games always work, at least not for me. Don’t get me wrong, I do respect him and usually like his games, I’m just nit head over heels like most people seem to be. I’m more of a, “wait for reviews” kind of guy with him, rather than, “it’s Kojima, I’m getting it.”
