Update (Thu 18th Aug, 2022): It's been confirmed that Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed will release on Xbox on October 18th, 2022, with digital and physical pre-orders going live this week featuring some extra bonuses (thanks, Gematsu).
Here's what IllFonic CEO Charles Brungardt reportedly had to say in a press release:
“The reaction from fans of Ghostbusters has blown us away. Putting a date on and opening up preorders for Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed feels like an out of body experience, and we cannot wait for everyone to feel the same sensation on Tuesday, October 18.”
Original story (Tue 22nd Mar, 2022): The developer behind the Friday the 13th and Predator: Hunting Grounds games has announced a brand-new Ghostbusters title called Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, and it's hitting Xbox consoles in Holiday 2022.
Like the aforementioned games, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed takes the form of a 4v1 asymmetrical multiplayer title where four of you are the Ghostbusters, and one of you is the ghost. The game features character customisation tools, traditional and unique gear and weapons, voice acting from the likes of Ernie Hudson and Dan Aykroyd, cross-platform play, the ability to utilise AI-controlled companions to fill teams, and much more.
The idea is that it's an all-ages game, rather than something more adult-focused like Friday the 13th.
Look out for Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed on Xbox One, Series X and Series S later this year!
As a Ghostbuster, join with other Ghostbusters to chase and trap ghosts in museums, prisons, hotels, and more, and capture the ghosts before they can fully haunt the areas.
Or, as the Ghost, hide, sneak, surprise, scare, and of course, slime Ghostbusters and civilians until the everything has gone completely spooky. Use trickery, deception, and Ectoplasm to gain the upper hand and drive the Ghostbusters out.

Another waste of a license that could have an epic solo player game.
Just watched the trailer on youtube and it did remind me of games like Predator: Hunting Grounds, Friday 13th etc vibes. I had hoped it was more a Single Player game with a great story. I wouldn't mind this as an 'online' mode as part of an online suite but doubt I'd use it often...
this will be dreadful then, a truly awful devloper.
better as mentioned giving this license to a company thats good and too single player
Super, huge, major Ghostbusters fan. But I'm not even the least bit excited about this game
Developer's ratings on metacritic
Dead alliance (2017): 43
Friday the 13th: (2017): 53
Predator hunting grounds (2020): 56 (ps4)
Star Citizen (2021) 33 <- only userreviews though (pc)
Arcadegeddon (2021) 70 <- two reviews (ps5) userreviews 46 (7 ratings)
This does not bode well for this game....
I've played Dead by Daylight a bit which is this kind of game, and I can see how something like that could be good fun with Ghostbusters. Likely a lot less violent too
If it comes to gamepass I might try it. I liked the Friday the 13th game even though I prefer single player games. Not much hope for this one.
Zero interest in a multiplayer game. Ridiculous it’s Not single player.
the only game i will buy in the same kind is evil dead.
God Predator Hunting Grounds is just a rip off of the AVP2010 mode, such a scam)
