One of our most anticipated Xbox Game Pass releases this month is As Dusk Falls! This interactive thriller has been in the works for years now at developer Interior/Night, a team consisting of ex-Sony developers among others. Well, it's finally available to pre-install, coming in at a whopping 51GB on Xbox Series X!
To get the download going ahead of the game's July 19th launch, simply head to the Game Pass hub on your console and navigate to upcoming games - As Dusk Falls. Alternatively, you can search for the game on the store and as long as you're an active Game Pass subscriber, the pre-install option will be available.
As Dusk Falls is all about storytelling, following two complicated family stories across 30 years of small town Arizonan life. Here's the game's latest trailer, debuted at this year's Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase:

I was surprised that it requires 51gb.
@Chaudy I was thinking this would be like an 8GB game. Really surprised it's such a large download size.
Wow is that big on Series X? On my Series S is just 23gb
I will definitely be trying this…but I dunno if I’ll be able to stomach it for long. I never get motion sickness. I can handle VR effortless. But there’s something about the constant slide show nature of this that flips my stomach a bit. I really don’t know why they went for this look.
Wow that is big! I'm curious as to how this will turn out, like many here I'm not sold at all on the art style, but more than happy to give the game a go and see if it clicks whilst playing.
51GB though!
Whilst I do like a narritive adventure and appreciate what appears to be high production values, I have a big issue with the whole stop frame animation photo presentation.
I realise its a bold aesthetic choice, but its the wrong decision for a game of this type. When you want people to empathise with characters, you shouldnt take away a persons movement and present them as static images. With this style, its hard to see whos even talking, let alone what emotions they are feeling.
Powerful writting can fix a lot, but I dont think it could overcome the issues inherrent in their choice of presentation.
It's the closest thing to 90s fmv games and perhaps even a visual downgrade. I wonder though if it tells a compelling story.
@Zucaritas Yep, Series X installed is 51gb.
I pre downloaded it. It looks interesting enough to try out. Will be on the same day as stray so have to divide my time a bit between both I guess.
Looks interesting so I'll hopefully give it a try.
Regarding the massive size of the download I do really worry that games are going to get much bigger now that they're not restricted by physical media limits. As we move from Hard Drives of the past gen to high speed solid state memory is much more expensive.
What advantage is there for a dev to optimise their game to reduce install size? Compressing textures, etc. puts more strain on the CPU and memory. So it could be a choice between a small install, and a stable frame rate, and a dev would want the latter. Unless platforms start charging developers based on the file size.
Guessing Series X size got bigger due to 4K textures, glad I will be playing on Series S. 51GB is going to put off a lot of people, esp those with slower internet conntections or limited space. Even 23GB is a lot for me considering it is basically it's a visual novel
The Walking Dead games on the xbox360 is just at 8 GB, 51GB is going to put off a lot of people on (as Dusk falls)
51 gigs!?
Nah, not right now thanks. Maybe another time.
Guys, I saw 68gb on my Series S last night. Anybody else, or was I just too tired?
@Sakisa you act like you gotta sit and watch the download 🤣
for still images, low frame rate and not high impact graphics this game has to have some reason for being 50 plus gigs....if this game is anything short of amazing I'm deleting it faster than a rabbit chewing baby carrots
