It's been a month since Ubisoft announced yet another delay for the Prince of Persia: The Sands Of Time Remake, this time because Ubisoft Montreal is taking over lead development on the game from Ubisoft Pune and Mumbai.
Since then, various retailers have been delisting their pre-orders for the game, and Ubisoft has issued a statement to IGN in response to this, confirming that the remake is no longer targeting a release in FY23 (before March 2023):
"The development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will now be led by Ubisoft Montreal. We’re proud of the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, and Ubisoft Montreal will benefit from their learnings as the new team will continue the work to deliver a great remake."
"As a consequence, we are no longer targeting a FY23 release anymore and the game has been delisted. If players wish to cancel their preorder they are invited to contact their retailer. They will be updated on the project as the development is moving along."
The remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands Of Time was first announced all the way back in September 2020, with an ambitious release date at the time of January 21, 2021. It was then announced as delayed three times between December 2020 and June 2021, before the change of lead developer was announced back on May 3rd, 2022.
The good news is that Ubisoft Montreal was the original developer on The Sands Of Time in the early 2000s, so there's real hope that the team can deliver something special - we just hope the delay announcements are over now!

So many delays on this game. Hopefully with the Montreal team taking over, they’ll get the game right and get it out. My expectations are low on this one though.
Really glad this is being held back and sent over to the Montreal team. Ubisoft need to do right by this series and handing back the reins to the studio that pioneered the 3D PoP games seems like the right choice.
This game has been a real mess, it almost reminds me Metroid Prime 4 with all the delays and change of developer.
Ubisoft Montreal should have handled the remake originally. They're the original developers of the game. Why hand something this important to studio who only ever originally mobile game and just dance ports.
To be fair, Montreal is pretty much the main Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell studio, the last true major single player AAA studio for the top IPs, so handing them a remake of an old game they made long ago seems like it's a waste of time for the company's premier studio.
But it tells of how important the PoP IP is for them now, which is hopeful, if they're pulling the game from the b team and put the main studio on it. Sounds like they're trying to revive the brand and willing to put the big money behind it now.
I wonder what caused all of the issues previously…
Either way sands of time is one of my favorite games so I will gladly support it when it comes out.
Take the time to do it properly. The game is a stone cold classic and deserves proper care and attention. Better to not release it if it’s bad.
Ubisoft should just bring the original sand of time game, add widescreen, 4K, 60 fps, and give it a fair price 😕
Sometimes I wonder what the game would have looked like if they just released it when they said they were going to..
