We're once again getting our hopes up that we might see Final Fantasy VII Remake on Xbox in the near future, as Square Enix has announced a surprise Final Fantasy VII "Celebration Broadcast" taking place next week.
The show is on Thursday, June 16th at 3pm PT / 6pm ET / 11pm BST, and will feature around ten minutes of content. As highlighted by Game Informer, the game's director (Tetsuya Nomura) has advised what to expect:
“We will be streaming Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary Celebration. At only around 10 minutes long, it will be short and sweet, but we have packed in lots of information, so I hope everyone can look forward to the unveiling.”
Now, of course, this stream might not have anything to do with Xbox, and it could instead be related to Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2, for example. But given that it's been so long since Part 1's launch, it's surely time for an Xbox port.
Plus, the PlayStation Store drummed up some speculation recently that something might be in the works, as the game was no longer being spotted in a list of PlayStation exclusives — although admittedly that list also missed out some other key exclusives such as God of War. Nevertheless, we're hopeful for an announcement next week.
Do you think we might finally get a FF7 Remake port on Xbox soon? Give us your thoughts below.

Not happening
I'm going with the assumption it's never coming. If it does it will be a pleasant surprise but I'm not counting on it.
I mean it’s either getting announced on the 16th or we are not seeing it on Xbox at all (never say never but at least not in the immediate future - just like the original).
Would love to see it being announced for Xbox, though I kinda doubt it.
i would like Square to simply SAY it isn't coming, if that's the case. it's beyond ridiculous to leave this up in the air for so long.
Agreed it feels like this this is the last chance. FF7 Remake Intergrade came out exactly 1 year ago today, seems suspicious timing they are talking about it today. Plus there has been a new FF game on Game Pass every 3 months for 2 years. One would be due in June if it was coming at all. Feels like now or never.
FF7R:2 announcement (trailer?) and whether this is the last entry or something they are going to drag out for decades would be nice too
Still the big question is if the Grubbs rumor of Sony-Square acquisition are true or not. Even if the process is ongoing, it wouldnt be brought to xbox until talks broke off (IF True)
@armondo36 That's what bugs me with square. If something is exclusive, cool. But don't spend literally decades stringing people along with "nothing to announce" and "we can't say". If it's there, say it. If it's not there, say it. Why pretend all the time?
This is the same company that said nothing about DQXI on Switch after being the very first game announced for Switch, then released on PS4 and 3DS first, then still said nothing, then awkwardly said they can't say anything "because of adult reasons" (?), then finally released the complete edition on Switch as a total remake in a different engine with more content, live music, more quests, and voice acting that the west had and Japan lacked in the original PS4 version. Then re-sold that Switch version on PS and XB, and effectively scrapped the original PS4 version that was "exclusive" for a time without even an upgrade path.
I really don't know what it is with Square and Sony. I'd say Sony holds their leash, but they kinda screwed Sony too, so I just don't get square.
I feel like they'll probably announce the Xbox/Steam ports. The exclusivity periods should probably be up for both Playstation and EGS, and it hasn't been long enough since FF7R first launched that it'd be reasonable to expect footage of the sequel.
For fans that haven’t played it yet, I hope this happens. As someone here with a PS5 and a copy of the game though, you aren’t really missing much. It looks nice but it’s short and rather shallow in my opinion, and who knows when the rest of the game is coming.
It would be an amazing surprise but I’m not expecting it at all. If anything I think there will just be a teaser for FF7 Part 2 for PS5 and maybe PC if we’re lucky.
Obviously I hope I’m wrong, though. I’d love to see the remakes come to XBOX.
If this does come to Xbox I'd say at a guess it's more likely to be at the Microsoft event than this 25th anniversary event.
Final Fantasy VII Remake will come to Xbox. Bear in mind that Sony moneyhatted both the original version and the expanded PS5 version and then Epic came with more cheques. Eventually, it will come to Xbox like every other Final Fantasy game. Same thing with Final Fantasy XVI although, apparently, it doesn't look like a Final Fantasy to begin with.
This would be awesome..
@Kaloudz Good question. It's definitely shallow. The change-up in combat has made it feel much less interesting than the original. I respect what they tried to do, but I don't care for the final product. In terms of length, you probably have a point there, but I suspect few people will be coming to the game without the knowledge that it's a fraction of the overall story. From that perspective, yes, it feels like it shortchanges the player quite a bit.
@Banjo- Also depends if there's truth to the rumors of a Sony buyout of Square or not. If there's talks, part of those talks is probably to not made any FF moves.
I still don't see that as probable and is mostly fan talk. On one hand, Square streamlining themselves by divesting the western studios does make them look like they're trying to be attractive for a buyout. OTOH, I think Sony would have been a lot more interested in the western studios than the Japanese ones for their GaaS/Marvel future, and they already have the only Japanese Square games that matter in the western market on a leash, so they get little from it other than the mobile games, which, to be fair, are probably worth it and right in their wheelhouse while MS has King and 2K has Zynga.
@Kaloudz @swedetrap The real problem with 7R is that supposedly it's a trilogy. Breaking one game into 3 is bad enough, but at their current rate of release that means it won't be until 2027 at the earliest until you can actually complete the story. That's absurd to wait almost a decade from beginning to ending a game. I'm sure it will be remastered (exclusively on PlayStation) at least twice by the time the last game is done.
@NEStalgia I also think it's Sony fan talk and, remember, Sony loves wasting money rather than acquiring studios 😂.
@NEStalgia agreed on game series times. Gone are the days where most studios could churn out sequels every year or two once they had built the original game engine and sorted it’s basic mechanics . We used to get a whole series in 3 to 6 years.
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time trilogy came out 2003-2005, Jak 1-3 was 2001-2004, Crash 1-3 was 1996-1998 etc. Hell even FFXII trilogy was every other year at 2009-2013.
Dev cycles are just so much longer nowadays with higher production values, lengthy art pipelines and thousands of developers involved. Especially with larger games like RPGs. Waiting 3+ years for each game and around a decade or more to complete a story just isn’t wanted. Interestingly Sony Santa Monica specifically gave this as their reason for making the current God of War only two games not the standard and anticipated three. First time I’d seen that directly acknowledged, though I’m sure others have done the same.
On the plus side those trilogies used to be churned out too quickly imho, they were often very iterative rather than revolutionary and seemed more about maximising profits on the longer dev time of the first game rather than for any major creative reasons. Often the mechanics were flogged to death with very few additions and by the end had fallen a little flat. Trilogies seemed like the default state for the wrong reasons. Perhaps we’re in a better state getting away from that.
Compare that to something like Mario Galaxy 2 that was made because the developers still had genuine new ideas on how to expand the gameplay. They created a game almost as creative as the first.
Hopefully more studios realise this and adapt accordingly. But as you said, don’t expect to see it happening from SquareEnix they will resell their game many times over before this is done. It’s part of the reason I’ve been holding off on FF7R
@themightyant Also on the plus side, when Xbox gets FF VII Remake, it'll be an updated version closer to Part II's release, instead of the PS4 version with ugly textures.
@themightyant Definitely. I really can't see trilogies being much of a thing at this point. Hopefully Santa Monica going that way will resonate in the industry. And as you said even looking at, say mass effect 3, I'm not sure we're better off having the wonky third game.
Square going with a trilogy on ff7r felt like a terrible idea when they said it. Especially with their ff dev track record. And it feels worse now, 2 years later and no sign of part 2 knowing part 3 will probably be on the next console. No trilogy should spread 3 console generations...
@NEStalgia did they ever confirm FF7R was a trilogy? If so I missed it. Last I saw was Square Enix saying they’d didn’t know how long it would be: Article. That’s been one of the issues fans have had.
Based on what the first game covers at least, at least 4 seems is more likely than 3. Might still be alive to see it all at then rate🤞
@themightyant you're right, they never said three, they implied more than two, and omg if it's 4 at half a decade between each I'm going to go full Sepheroth....
.... What if they extend it to advent children and crisis core? Where's my sword....
@NEStalgia I think they already said some of the spin offs would be incorporated… see you walking through the flames of Nibelbeim 😂
@themightyant gawd no..... There's milking a franchise to death and then there's this. They're one sequel away from becoming Final FIFA.
Screw it. Sony should buy Square! . Then FF will just be a failed GaaS with guns.
So basically XV.
