Paramount's live-action Halo show has all sorts of ups and downs in the first season, but last week's episode pushed a lot of fans over the edge after featuring a raunchy scene between Master Chief and the character Makee.
If you've been questioning the script, you're not alone. Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto has now also admitted he's just as confused as fans about where the "inspiration" has come from for these sorts of scenes to be popping up.
"Yeah, I’m not sure where the inspiration for the show comes from now. Not the Halo I made."
He added to this in a follow-up tweet - clarifying that he "never said" he didn't like it, but that it's just "so different" to the Halo universe he helped make.
"For clarity, I never said I didn't like it. It's just so different than the Halo I helped make - like it's a different universe."
This "different universe" is technically the Halo Silver timeline, which has no links with the book or video game timeline, and is not considered to be "core-canon". Lehto also took the opportunity to mention some things he liked about the show:
"I actually like some of the battle scenes. Cool action and some great VFX. In particular, the plasma hit effects in ep1 are spot on."
Although Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto has mixed feelings about the Halo television show, he has given his blessing to the Halo Infinite video game - noting how it "brings back the magic to the magic". Lehto is nowadays working with EA on the Battlefield series.
Paramount has already confirmed a second season of the Halo show is on the way.

He and I both.
Legitimately can't figure out the audience.
It isn't for Halo fans, for obvious reasons.
It isn't for scifi fans, because it definitely isn't good scifi.
It isn't for drama fans because it is so hamfisted, you can taste the port.
It isn't for action fans because, well, what action? There have been a couple short scenes across these episodes.
This show sucks.
Thank christ this travesty never came out in UK. Despite claims its a global success, it ain't global when it never came out in UK. Also, theyve just turned this into a generic crap show with sex scenes because obviously you can't sell a show without sex. According to Paramount and Netflix
If you took away the armor and changed the covenant, slightly, it wouldnt be recognizable as halo. And that's the problem. The show is so different from anything we've been accustomed to, ie games/books, they shouldve just called it something else, entirely, or at least from a different spartan's perspective. Not THEE Master Chief.
I'm glad people are enjoying it. But I couldn't, not as a Halo vehicle.
The Halo games: when can we see master chief's face??
The Halo show: here's master chief's face AND... butt.
The show was dead on arrival when creators didn't play the games and the show was deemed non-canon. What is sad is that Halo could really use a show to expand its universe. We don't get enough dialog in the video games from chief to make a deep plot and books/comics don't cut it. They could have created whatever they wanted but they decided to butcher what little lore there actually is.
There’s something about Hollywood writers that makes them seem to think the moment they’re handed a beloved franchise that they know best and it’s their duty to change everything people like about it.
I don’t know why studios bother to pay for the licence if all they’re going to do is abandon all the recognisable elements.
Wasn't Kiki wolfkill on the set every day for halo show? Isn't she part of 343?
How about that. Right?
@BulkSlash More to the point is there's something about Hollywood writers that have never as much as seen source material for the franchise they're handed, gets a few concept images and plot points, then runs with the story they otherwise wanted to make that has nothing to do with the source material.
Reminds me of the guys that created the Outback Steakhouse restaurant chain in the U.S. (Australian themed restaurant chain) that said they intentionally made sure never to go to Australia because they didn't want it to influence them.......
I get that same vibe here. Seems like writers that made sure never to play/read Halo so it didn't influence their own vision of what Halo probably must be.
But it's not like this is a new thing:
People are complaining that it's straying too far away from the games and such, but they basically said from the beginning that this is going to be their own thing and not canon. Yet people still complain even though they were told it wouldn't be that way.
I'm not saying all of the changes they've done have been good choices, but I am willing to let most things slide because I know this isn't trying to be the video games. I will say that the sex scene never should have happened though as apparently Spartans lose their sex drive, and he should be in his armor more even though he's more John than Master Chief in their universe.
@BulkSlash So that the brand sells the product.
Would people even be paying attention to this show if it didn't have "Halo" on the front?
I quite enjoy it. But it's not Halo.
this show after season 2 will get cancelled
There is nothing wrong with making alterations from the original work. It is a new show.
However, there are too many changes that make no sense and are not respectful.
No matter how good or bad this show is I can't unsee Pablo Schreiber as Pornstache Mendez, so I just cannot ever take him seriously as Master Chief.

@Resi32 I also thought that was a bit of a bizarre statement. It’s not out in most of the world yet.
Gave up on this show after the all Kwan episode
@KilloWertz
So they should be excused butchering a beloved ip without so much as even trying to understand it simply because they told you they were going to?
So if someone stole all your possesions, but told you they were going to, that would be ok? You really think that makes sense?
Divergence from the game is to expected. But this level of disrespect for what makes Halo worthy of a series at all, deserves all the scorn and derrision that most are giving it. Its utter tripe.
