Halo Infinite Multiplayer Season 2 landed this week and while the new maps and modes have been an absolute blast, it's not necessarily been the smoothest experience at times. There are all sorts of changes and issues making headlines, and fans are eager to know how 343 will respond. The good news is the team is listening and is taking community feedback into consideration.
Head creative for Halo Infinite, Joseph Staten, provided an update about all of this via social media - admitting it's been a "bumpy" launch week, with the team planning to review its options and share some news in the future. This was in response to a tweet regarding some issues with 'Last Spartan Standing' challenges, originally posted by 343 senior community manager, John Junyszek.
Joseph Staten - "Hey Spartans, this week has been bumpy. That definitely wasn't our goal. We are indeed taking your feedback to heart, especially regarding map jumps and speedrunning. We're reviewing options and will have more news to come."
In addition to challenge issues (and as noted above), there has been some fan feedback about jumps and speedrunning. These changes were also highlighted in our previous post about Season 2. S2 sees the introduction of a brand new Battle Pass, new seasonal narrative content, the maps Catalyst and Breaker, the new modes King of the Hill, Land Grab and Last Spartan Standing, and much more.

Just fix the baseline game that has been broken since November.
Fix the desync that was somehow made worse with Season 2.
Fix the stuck spawn cameras.
Fix the high ping matches.
Fix challenges not tracking correct.
Fix menu options not working.
No amount of added content will make up for a fundamentally broken game.
And then going through fixing things that literally nobody asked for while not doing a single thing to fix these 5 month old issues. Definitely not a good way to show you're “listening to the community".
I've just resigned to thinking I must just be playing a different game than a lot of folks at this point really. It's got issues of course but I haven't seen anything really worthy of the constant negativity towards the game. I'm sorry to see folks not enjoying it as much as I am but I hope 343 doesn't let it get them down.
They have a great game that just has a few issues here and there. All they need to do is keep at it and it will work out in the end.
@Korgon yea, it’s a great game. After my challenges are complete I actually enjoy playing Rumble Pit and Quick Play.
I wish the challenge system was better but it’s manageable.
I would say if anything the game is most broken given the desync. Which for me is most noticeable in Tactical. I don’t really enjoy Tactical any more with how many variants there are. It’s nice they added Slayer BR to Team Slayer though.
@Korgon Exactly my experience. Sure, I’ve encountered a few bugs here and there, that goes for literally every multiplayer game I play, but nothing at all to suggest this game is “broken”. I find the game overall to be a great experience.
@Korgon I agree with you 100%. I’d probably have continued playing multiplayer, even if I find the leveling system to be frustrating, if my gaming network didn’t drop from the game before it was even Christmas. The game has anti-hype and I don’t think it’s 100% Halo’s fault. I do think there are some flaws, but I think the major flaw is more or less that Xbox hasn’t communicated all year in regards to other big releases, so Halo is left taking bleed damage as the bastion of the ecosystem. I have a feeling Halo’s fan reaction will change as soon as Xbox has more exclusive AAA content.
The only thing I wanted from Halo was the coop campaign that a year and a half after the game was originally supposed to launch still doesn't exist while they monkey around fixing mp things that weren't broken. It's not anti hype. It's just an unfinished game.
I'm convinced this game exists to make Todd Howard's next game look polished.
People have been asking for basic stuff like the option to turn off crossplay since launch but the haven't even acknowledged that so no I don't think they are listening at all
@InterceptorAlpha they Gotsta get their FTP bucks…. That’s their focus it’s clear. Money money money.
@Korgon I haven't played it in months but when I played it the multiplayer ran smooth for me all the time for the few weeks I was playing....I swear it's just a combination of the internet and people love to moan amplified with it being halo and it's cool for the sheep to hate on halo
@somnambulance I think it's more the live service model that's the issue. With almost all Xbox Game Studios games nowadays being live service, the similarities between them are amplified. Forza Horizon 5 also has a content problem when compared to Forza Horizon games that weren't live service for example.
@Korgon I've found if you stay off the forums for this game, you enjoy it a lot more. Some people love to complain. It's honestly the most fun I've had playing a game in years.
It's is odd that they fixed a lot of things that no one complained about and now they are looking to unfix them. All that time could have surely resulted in an additional map or two? They have a lot to do and it does seem like they were wasting resources here. I played two games of the new mode last night, the story component to the event is pretty cool but the two matches i played were kinda meh. Could have been my mood but things didn't click. I'll be carrying on in the campaign again and I'll try some more multiplayer later on but definitely didn't have a great first impression to their efforts.
@Grumblevolcano I agree to an extent. Halo multiplayer was always “live service,” even before we started talking about games in that context. I think people expect drastically more from “live service” games now than ever before, despite them being universally free to play. Infinite has a bit of a content issue and a problem with the “leveling system,” for sure, but that’s in comparison to titles that cost $60 to play. In comparison to other free to play games, Halo Infinite can run circles around most of them, but struggles because of its high profile, I believe. I truly do think that 343 has been showing a lack of confidence in a product that deserves confidence and it’s ruining their traction as they cave to fan complaints. For as much as FH5 is lighter on content, it’s not lampooned the way Infinite is, likely for this very issue. The devs of FH5 act like their game is a landmark in the racing genre, and rightfully so, and this helps. As soon as 343 acts confident about Infinite and Xbox has more AAA Gamepass exclusives, watch things turn around for Halo and fast.
In my opinion, both Infinite and FH5 are the best Xbox exclusives since Halo 3 and it’s obvious to me, but it’s also obvious to me that Microsoft needs to work on managing their optics, so that people actually believe that. It is my hope that 343 is just taking a loss on season 2 and have big plans to restructure the entire approach in season 3.
This game is broken like Windows 11. Both at least a year too early.
How about releasing a complete game and getting rid of all this seasons malarky.
