Xbox has long spoken of its plans to expand in Japan, and here's some evidence of those efforts. Matt Smith, an Xbox exec in Japan, is looking to expand his team in the region.
Smith says that Xbox Game Studios Publishing in Japan is "working with top-class developers" on a "groundbreaking product" for Xbox. No other information is really given, except some tidbits relating to job vacancies.
The team is looking for a producer with "Japanese language ability", a programmer, an engineer, and an experienced programmer with Unreal Engine experience. So, we can expect this one to end up on Unreal then.

Beyond that, it's anyone's guess. Some have expressed thoughts in the past that Microsoft isn't likely to acquire a Japanese studio anytime soon, but Xbox appears to be building its own team over there anyway. Let's wait and see, shall we?
What do you want from an Xbox Game Studios project coming out of Japan? Let us know in the comments.

Anything similar to their Mistwalker endeavour will be amazing. Have thought Xbox should do this for a long time.
Yay, glad they're building or have built a new studio in Japan. This is much better than buying a studio.
Mobile games
Hopefully it’s a game scheduled for a date sooner than 2026. There’s so many Xbox Studios games in development, but it’d be nice to have some real release dates. I’m tired of getting hyped for games that are years and years out.
@Rural-Bandit I’m sure we will be in for a great generation too. I just wish Xbox wouldn’t announce things too early. We still haven’t received release dates or even updates for most of what was initially revealed in the Series X’s first games showcase. It’s great that more projects are being worked on, for sure, but maybe it would be good to show the titles that are actually coming soon before announcing that another project is started. We haven’t gotten much concrete with any of Xbox Game Studios all year.
Just make a godzilla game. They'll love it.
Oh? This has me extremely curious.
Lol, the kings of promises strike again...
I bet this is just kojima’s rumored cloud game only since they used the word “groundbreaking”
I am so glad that Microsoft has turned its attention to Japan again.
The Xbox One was very miserable.
They really need a concentrated effort for Japan. They had one going in the early days of the 360.
I think they’re encouraged by the sales numbers over there and want to capitalize on it which can only be considered a good thing.
At this point an offline single player title would be groundbreaking for Xbox.
@Xiovanni it's pretty depressing that blacklisting seems to be a thing in the gaming industry, with Nintendo's own involvement in that coming to light. I understand these are international countries and that laws differ everywhere, but workers all have and deserve rights. I'm sure someone with your pfp would agree, but I guess you never know...
@RadioHedgeFund games are just more fun with friends. I'm all for having the option for co-op. That's what is so great about Xbox games.
