Update: Panic over! Ubisoft has reached out to True Achievements to explain that some of these Xbox 360 games were taken offline due to "short maintenance", and have since been brought back online.
These are (across all platforms): Anno 2070, Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed III, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Driver San Francisco, Far Cry 3, Silent Hunter 5, and Splinter Cell Blacklist.
Here's an excerpt from the statement provided to the website:
"We will provide advance notice before shutting down any online services for our games and have updated our support article to reflect this."
Original story: Ubisoft seems to have closed the servers on a selection of its legacy software, rendering some achievement lists unobtainable. The company recently detailed a huge list of now-shuttered Xbox 360-era games, including a selection of Assassin's Creed titles, Far Cry 3 and more.
The full list — which spans multiple different systems — is extensive and makes for not-so-pretty reading. However, as noted by True Achievements, most of these seem to have been closed for some time, with Ubisoft now going public on the closures.
Even so, a selection of these have only just closed, as their servers were still live a mere couple of weeks ago. Here's that newer closures list, covering a selection of Ubisoft franchises on Xbox 360 (thanks, TA).
- Assassin's Creed II
- Assassin's Creed III
- Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
- Assassin's Creed: Revelations
- Beyond Good and Evil
- Blazing Angels 2
- Far Cry 3
- Just Dance Kids 2014
- Rabbids: Alive and Kicking
- Smurfs 2
Of these 10 titles, four now have unfinishable achievement lists, i.e. you can't hit the max gamerscore on them without online achievements. Those four games are Assassin's Creed III, Brotherhood and Revelations, and Rabbids: Alive and Kicking.
While it's a shame to see support for these older titles dropped, it's expected to happen eventually. We'd love for these games to patch out their online achievements before that date, but at times, such a move just isn't feasible due to their age.
Were you missing any of these achievements? Annoyed you can't go back and grab them? Let us know your thoughts on the closures below.

Online achievements have always sucked.
@LP09 Yeah, any achievements requiring online multiplayer are just poor design. If the game doesn't sell well, within a few months those achievements become unobtainable.
Even for a popular game like Burnout Paradise, a couple of achievements required 8 player free-roam lobbies and they were just hard to come by.
Does this apply to the PS3 versions too?
They still need to fix unitys multiplayer the coop has been down for months and the only response is yeah we are aware
I was confused at first before realizing they had online trophies. Initially thought it was the entire achievement list lol t
Achievements, as far as I am concerned, are not compulsory or used to determine when a game is 'completed' to me. I couldn't care less about these games no longer being online either and if those achievements had been important to me, I'd of endeavoured to get them long before the servers are turned off.
There are a LOT more games in my collection that I consider 'finished/complete' without collecting 'every' achievement. AC2 for example, I never got the achievements related to collecting 'every' feather but to me, it wasn't worth the monotony. The only achievements I didn't get in Titanfall 2 were the speed run ones for the Gauntlet run because it wasn't worth my time replaying it 'over and over and over and over' again until I beat the time-much more beneficial to me to play something I want to and add to my Achievement score that way...
All these games have been out a 'long' time and plenty of opportunity to have played 'online'. If there are so 'few' players playing, then its 'impossible' to get them anyway because you need an active user base to play multi-player online modes...
Ye if it's ubi servers
Its being reported that these are merely down for maintenance due to a bug which made AC3 free during the last Xbox sale in NA. As Ubisoft never gave any 30 day notice of these closures they are liable now for small claims due to breaking their own terms and conditions.
@BAMozzy How dare you not care about achievements 😈
@Snake_V5 not currently
@BAMozzy boosting is a thing...
A lot of long dead games are still going strong in the boosting community
@Resi32 The games are listed in an official Ubi blog post as being shut down, online server wise. Blog is dated April 18th so I doubt it's just maintenance, blog post is linked in article^
At least it's just online achievements. Sucks for some I know but does not affect me personally.
@Terrin don’t hold your breath, I expect the game to join this list sooner than later.
@Tharsman same ... But it's the last thing I need to do so lol well hold out hope
Ubisoft now claim they are aware of the connection issues and that they are working on it asap but appears to only be rainbow six siege that they are talking about.
@Kezelpaso that post has been up since April 2020, they just edited the date to April 18th. Thing is when they made that post they hadn't closed any of those games. Its possible lockdown and reduced teams is why they stayed up 2 more years but weird they've not gone on ps3
Be worried people, if Ubisoft get away with this stealth closure without warning despite it breaching their own T&C, other publishers like EA won't be far behind. If you need online achievements in NFS games or Battlefield etc get them done now. Servers could be gone tomorrow. Medal of Honor 360 was stealth closed last year, its still up on ps3.
Man that sucks. Was just playing Far Cry 3 online a few weeks ago. Still had a decent community playing online. I really wish Xbox had a "Community Game Night" they would promote a couple of times a month. They promote an old game and could maybe have it under free to play during the period, then people would go back and enjoy said game. They used to do something similar back in the 360 days, but those were for more recent releases. Could you imagine if they took a dead COD like Ghosts on the One and had a week promotion of it, sales would be way up and those servers would finally have more than 200 people playing at once. Everyone wins c:
Right so Ubisoft just removed the console versions from their shutdown list. Now they are either trying to hide the fact theyve closed them without warning, or its a error and they are fixing them. All might not be lost yet
One of the biggest draws of backwards compatability is being able to go back to old games and play this old content. If you are shutting down servers, it very much defeats that purpose.
Having recently gone back to Far Cry Instincts and finally completing the game after 15 years, I was thrilled. So much so that I am currently doing it with Perfect Dark Zero. And I'm only able to do this because 1) PDZ is still online after nearly 17 years, and 2) because it has bot and LAN support.
I find it silly that PDZ has the solution to keep both MP achievements achievable and MP modes playable, without servers, while also not shutting down its servers. And despite releasing before all these games, and the 360 Halo games, and none of them took that on board.
All are now back online and Ubisoft have issued an apology claiming server maintenance. Its likely they did try to close these but because they broke the law by not announcing with 30 days notice, theyve had to put them up. Get boosting now!
Shouldn't they have them online since they have their own subscription service?
Ubisoft has dropped the ball lately. Capcom and Square already surpassed them market cap wise and Square even has dropped too.
Edit: Wait nevermind. Ubisoft somehow are above Square and Capcom again.
What's online about Beyond Good and Evil?? 😅 I played that on Gamecube 😂
This really isn't important. Does anyone actually care about getting 100% achievements for games? Surely that's not the reason to play a particular game. Ubisoft should not be expected to pay to run servers for the few people who still play their legacy games.
Online achievements always suck ass, but if they turn off the ability to unlock them because of survey shutdowns they should be auto-unlocked for everyone who has the games. Obviously this is a pipe dream of mine but it ain't a bad idea
Thank God. I was worried for a moment there that I couldn't play Smurfs 2 anymore.
