Well, the news we were hoping we wouldn't have to hear has unfortunately come true... Bethesda has announced today that both Starfield and Redfall have been delayed from 2022 to the first half of 2023.
In a statement, the studios explained that they needed more time to realise their "incredible" ambitions:
"We can't wait for you to play Starfield, but we need some more time. We’re so thankful for all the support and encouragement and are excited to show you the game soon."
"Here at Arkane Austin, we've decided to delay the launch of Redfall. The team needs more time to bring the game to life. Thank you so much for your continued support. Redfall is our most ambitious game yet, and we can’t wait to show it off soon."
In a more generic statement, Bethesda advised that "we want to ensure that you receive the best, most polished versions" of the two games, and confirmed that they'll both be getting a gameplay deep dive "soon". We presume that means our first look at gameplay will arrive at the Xbox Games Showcase in June.
Today's news is a painful blow without a doubt, but here's hoping it leads to two fantastic games next year.
What are your thoughts on the delay to Starfield and Redfall? Let us know in the comments below.

Wow I'm so surprised, will we still be seeing some on it in the june show now though?
Ouch. That hurts 😩
Well, not surprising really. We still haven't seen any gameplay.
Not surprised, and to be honest, will be the better option than releasing something not ready.
Will make the showcase even more interesting now as as it stands they are not releasing any 1P game for the rest of this year.
Sort of expected. If a game has a definite release date as far in advance as Starfield had its never going to make it.
So with this news out of the way what's left from any of MS studios this year?
So what is Xbox releasing this year then? 😕
Wow bit of a bust year for Xbox then (on the first party front at least). 2023 going to be firing on all cylinders but it should have been anyway…
Definitely disappointed about Starfield.
Hopefully Scorn, Deathloop and something else can fill the gaps?
So no Exclusives for xbox this year then. This one is going to hurt Xbox quite a bit.
Question what are Microsoft studios releasing in 2022 ?
@WCB the usual nothing.
So xbox has like 150 studios and cant get 1 game out, absolute joke
@WCB zilch.
Damn, well planned a playcation round Starfield, so cancel that then... too bad. And yeah, what remains for this year then, first party wise , Forza motorsport? , maybe some smaller things like project Belfry...
I was expecting these news, but during the showcase, not now.
@Rmg0731 that's been going on for YEARS. I'm over it personally. Their inability to get games on the shelf is becoming legendary.
It's very good that Bethesda are being given the time they need, the state of Halo Infinite did make it seem like Microsoft may have forced Bethesda to release this holiday even if not ready but that's fortunately not the case.
Wow been calling this for months now yet got bashed every time, so what do xbox have to release this year?
Don't worry though god of war Ragnarok will be delayed as well, luckily we have hogwarts game coming out which will be this year's hit
Suddenly 2022 isn't all that for gaming as we thought it would be.
Can't see xbox having nothing for this year, Id bet any money on hellblade 2 coming out this fall, and maybe they will be forced to buy a timed exclusive.
And don't forget you all get Deathloop this year, plus the hogwarts game.
I have a backlog to last me ten years, so I can wait.
Plus I'm hoping for those rumoured remasters, including Fallout and Elder Scrolls.
@armondo36 poor management again, and people want them to buy everything. Well looks like im only play xbox 360 games on my series S again this year
horrible news
Since the Blizzard deal is going through can we get Diablo Immortal launched for xbox this June?
Too be fair there's not alot coming out on ps4/5 and switch either I use my xbox most days ps5 occasionally not touched my switch since arceus was released still plenty to play on xbox
That's too bad but Bethesda really needs Starfield to be a hit so by all means take the extra time.
I would certainly rather that they took their time and got it right, releasing a polished game that reviews well with both critics and players alike. That said, Starfield in particular was basically the only AAA first party studio release already announced as releasing for the Xbox in 2022. Now it seems as if we have nothing in the way of products from our own studios. I totally get that it won't be long until we will have regular first party releases, but the wait is somewhat painful, and delays like this don't help. I would much prefer that rather than delay a game, just don't announce an unrealistic release date in the first place. Tell us when the game is coming out at the same moment that it goes gold. That way devoids us of disappointment such as this. The saddest thing is that you just know that the will be many on the Blue Team that will just revel in this news, because for some, any misfortune that befalls Xbox is good news. That is a truly sad state of affairs.
Let's just hope that they release Hellblade 2, the new Forza and Gears 6 during the remaining months of this year. Then I'll be a happy bunny regardless...
I hope they have some unannounced projects that are ready for release that will be shown off next month 🤞🏻
Interesting this news has broken out following Microsofts visit to Bethesda. Wondering if MS looked at the games as a precursor to gathering up what they can show at the upcoming showcase and thought both projects need a bit more time in the oven. Can't say it isn't a bit crappy we've got the delays seeing as a surefire date was given for Starfield and Redfall had been slated for Summer, but sensible move if MS and Bethesda have looked at both games jointly and decided they need a bit more work and polish. Fingers crossed for now!
@TheAshCohen09 This does make their show more interesting. I'd guess they are looking for a big third-party to put day one on Gamepass for a splash to make up for the delay.
@UltimateOtaku91 I think Hellblade 2 for this year is a little ambitious, but we'll see. I reckon Project Belfry is up next and on for within the next few months, and the most likely first party game after that will be Forza Motorsport. Seeing as MS were ramping up efforts for Forza earlier in the year, and a new head of quality assurance was appointed for the Forza franchise, I'm hoping best case that it's virtually done now (at the very least in a substantial playable state) and just in need of a once over and a stamp of approval before it gets past the gate. I'm also guessing full version of Grounded comes out at some stage towards the end of the year, factor in Deathloop in September and that could be it for 2022. Hopefully more to come following the big showcase next month.
Ouch... saw this coming, but I was hoping I was wrong.
I guess we will see Deathloop again at the Bethesda showcase, since it will be the only game they release this year.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, what is going on with the management at Xbox studios? I get delays, it happens all the time, but no major first party releases for an entire year? PlayStation will have Horizon, GT, GOW, and possibly another title if rumors are to be believed.
I'm so tired of giving Xbox another year to get their first party up and running.
@Rmg0731 brutal honesty? I don't know how they even stay in the industry, they way Microsoft runs xbox. It's ridiculous. If Sony wasn't sure of God of War was coming out this year...I'll bet it does now lol
I’m not surprised by this in the slightest.
@OM1993 I'm afraid you are right. Sure Ms had a stellar 2021 with 5 first party games and the best publisher year ever. Maybe Forza and Belfry show up but that might be it. I don't even count Grounded since it already was out but in early access and Deathloop will be coming to gamepass as well, but it isnt a new release, people who really wanted to play it might have played it on pc or ps already.
And sure we knew in advance 2022 was gone a be a more in between year after the stellar 2021 year, but its getting even worse as we expected. Lets hope 2023 will finally be the year the games will go rolling out, because i can see the reason why a lot of xbox fans get frustrated by this and especially the ones who only play on xbox.
I definitely agree with everyone’s point about not revealing dates years in advance, but people really need to start tempering their expectations about video game releases. This isn’t the early 2000s anymore. Even before covid causing delays, games are significantly harder and more complex to make, especially RPG games. And top notch developers are far and few between. Plus they are trying to meet consumers expectations; which is an impossible task these days. So unless you want games with worse graphics, animations, and quests, let them bake this in the oven a little longer. And let’s not forget, every single RPG to come out in the last 20 years always has bugs. So be prepared for those no matter how delayed the game is.
As for gamepass, I do hope they have something up their sleeve as I’m sure we all do, but I trust that if they don’t feel their holiday releases are good enough, they’ll make a deal with 3rd parties to bring games to GP on day 1. And even if you’re not a GP person, I’m sure there’s something out there for you as well.
@Bdbrady 100% agree. I don't get what's going on with project management. 343 has consistently dropped the ball. The Initiative has been having all kinds of problems with Perfect Dark, from high turnover to delayed projects to outside help being brought in. Rare has been having issues with Everwild, rebooting the game mid-development already and pushing back release dates. Now this.
That's a lot of devs that are struggling, and last year Xbox acquired Bethesda and all their studios...and they're about to acquire Activision Blizzard and all of theirs on top of it. I don't even know how many studios that is but it's huge...and makes me concerned it's going to get worse if a plan isn't put in place.
I understand game dev is difficult, and pandemics make it harder, but it feels like something's up. I don't want crunch, but there's also something to be said for project management and mid-project goal lines. Either studios leads are too nervous to go back to Microsoft and ask for help — maybe because of increasing competition for resources and attention as more studios get acquired — or maybe project management at Xbox under Matt Booty are strained. Or maybe Xbox has just kept a pretty hands-off approach but that's starting to negatively impact development.
As someone who works in advertising, I can attest that us creatives need a long leash — but also guardrails to not go completely off the map. I hope this can get sorted out, especially before even more studios are heaped on.
Between my SX and my PS5, the latter is getting more play overall because of the exclusives (though man I love me some Forza Horizon 5). Aside from exclusives, Sony stumbled out the gate a little with bad optics, some questionable choices, the inability to make consoles fast enough, and no Gamepass competitor. This should have been MS's time to strike with just a nonstop barrage of games that made them the console to get.
"Microsoft should buy Capcom!" Or just pay Bandai whatever it wants for Elden Ring on Game Pass.
Does this mean Todd found the QA department?
The writing was on the wall for this one for a long time, and I can't believe they kept pretending it was still releasing, but that seems to be par for the industry these days to pretend a date everyone knows can't possibly be hit will be hit, and then bail at the end.
Unless you're 343, then you ship anyway. But at this point, Starfield, BotW2 are both on delay, Ragnarok, Cory all but hinted it's on a delay...so....remember when 2022 was going to have all of 2020's games? Seems like Splatoon 3 and XC3 are pretty much 2022. Switch Pro in 2036! You can't tell me PSVR2 lands this year either with the chip shortage raging.
MS has nothing we know of unless they buy someone fast which isn't likely. Probably FM8. Maybe a surprise? Sony has....do we even know what they have other than the inevitably delayed GoW2 and PSVR2 kit and the already released HFW (which was 2021's delay.)? I think this is the year I play my Switch more than the other two again, lol!
We need E3 back. If Nintendo says Bayo3 and MP4 are 2022 they can do the Jack Tretton mic drop and the Muppet Iwata memes will flood the internet.
It's crazy though, 2 years into a console generation and hardware is still hard to get, into year 3 we're still getting the major games on the old generation, PS4/X1 has been going for 9 years, and I'm still feeling it's 50/50 that this generation goes on for 10 full years as a result as the "real" launch, software-wise doesn't even happen until 2-3 years after hardware launch, or this generation is just abandoned and forgotten as an unsupported generation that's discarded as a misfire, as a collective industry WiiU moment.
Wasn’t starfield already delayed from last year. Everyone was pretty sure it would release this year. Sigh. Microsoft really need to work on their project management. And the game really really really needs to deliver when it eventually releases.
Microsoft had a pretty stacked year last year with Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, Flight Simulator and Psychonauts 2. They were even Metacritic’s publisher of the year.
I’m not happy about Starfield but would much rather have it be launched in great condition and not rushed. Hopefully we’ll have some surprises at the June show - maybe even a Forza Motorsport announcement coming this year.
Hogawats Legacy and the new Pokemon will be the big hitter for this year
They NEED to release Forza Motorsport 8 this year, otherwise their release schedule is looking rather empty. Gutted about Starfield though. Let’s just hope Hogwarts legacy doesn’t get delayed too 😬
Ooooooooooooooof
If I had the magic wand (and Microsoft checkbook) I would be working towards Gotham Knights and Modern Warfare II in game pass this fall
.. and so it begins. Another gen another bunch of promises not met. It was clear from the fact we've not seen anything outside of concept art that this title was way off, and I suspect even first half 2023 is over-ambitious - though I hope I'm wrong as I want to see this game too.
In contrast to other comments I think for 1st parties, they had little last year to impress. FH5 was the stand out title. A port of a flight sim loaded with Mtx (not what anyone buys a console for), and Halo, which I completed but could not believe how poor it was. I do appreciate some people enjoyed it more than me, but I think most feel its not a killer title. The foremost tech title for the richest corp in the world, a 12 hour campaign with no co op and a single biome? I've seen someone suggest Psyconaughts 2, but that's a multi plat title and can be played on the alternate system.
Thank god for gamepass. Great service with stunning value.
If it weren't for GP offering so many great 3rd parties I'd wander why I owned a series X, but as it is , I'm happy I do.
I still feel there's very little that shows series X power and MS should have at least released a few demo's to show some of the power of the unit. I'm showing my age, but I used to love demo's on all the old machines and computers - something mind blowing showing 12TFlops of power would be nice....
Ooof, that's not good! A real kick in the vegetables.
Glad they are taking time to release games in a good state and not rush out buggy crap, but... damn, that's not good for holiday season in terms of games sales or console sales.
Not good AT ALL.
Guessing that MS are speeding up the spit and polish on Motorsport and they will hang their hat one that (plus maybe some timed exclusive content for CoD to sugar the pill).
Maybe MS will desperately try to pick up some other timed exclusive content for another multiplatform as well?
Thin pickings though... Very disappointing not to have something else major for Christmas.
Well, this is a shame. Hopefully the June Showcase will provide some hope for some first-party releases coming in 2022.
@NEStalgia I’m sure Motorsport is releasing this year. That ain’t going to wet appetites though.
As for bought Exclusives, Stalker 2 is still schedule for the holidays. We will see on that though.
That’s a definite blow. Still undoubtedly the good move to make in the long term but this year is looking pretty barren in terms of marquee titles.
All the same though, I won’t be too bothered if good indies and AA games keep coming to Xbox and gamepass.
@mousieone Im pretty sure Stalker 2 is delayed indefinitely since the studio is based in Ukrain.
@Lavalera I know, you can't really count Grounded or Deathloop, reaching at this point! 😅 Starfield and RedFall for me were like the marquee exclusives for this year. You remove them and all of a sudden 2022 in terms of Xbox exclusives looks barren. I think MS/Bethesda need to come out with a flourish in 2023 if this year ends up being dry. I'll just be glad for the showcase next month as at the least, it'll give us some perspective on how the next couple years will be looking.
@Lavalera I thought as much as well but their Website still lists holiday and it’s still up for pre-order on the MS store
https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/stalker-2
Better be some big "E3" surprises for this year, cuz it's looking pretty empty now for first party...
@Bdbrady you remember that HFW, GT7 and GOW were all supposed to launch last year right? Also I'm still saying that GOW is a 2023 title. The two that did launch this year had their issues as well so game development is having major hurdles in the whole industry. Everything is being delayed and/or coming out undercooked. Definitely is a blow to PR but it's the right call to make, and they made the call. I wonder if we will get FM and Plagues Tale this year still. Stalker 2 is delayed cuz of the war as is Atomic Heart.
@NEStalgia XC3. Splatoon 3. Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. New Pokemon gen. Still plenty of stuff to look forward to on the Nintendo side. Especially considering they ALWAYS have some surprise late-quarter release they reveal in the middle of the year.
Bayo 3 wouldn't surprise me, either, although I won't be grabbing that.
The end of 2022 is very sad with botw2 delayed and now starfield , I hope 2023 will be better.
NOOOOOOO! If they keep this up Xbox will be keeping the reputation of the console with no exclusives! So many games delayed now.
Can’t say I’m surprised. Microsoft needs to get their 💩 together. Our loyalty is being spat on at this point.
@Krzzystuff While those titles were delayed, my issue isn't with delays necessarily, but Xbox management. PlayStation still had Returnal, Ratchet, Miles, Demon Souls, and a few other smaller titles that released in the year before. This year they have Horizon, GT, and GOW. Xbox has had minimal releases, Halo and Fortza — and nothing this entire year!
I just want Xbox to produce quality games consistently. Fortza and their PC games are on point. Their console and non-sim games are not in a good place and haven't been for a while.
@Ralizah Bayonetta 3 already has a 2022 release window, while it could get delayed I'm guessing it'll take the Halloween slot like Bayonetta 2 did on Wii U.
@Clankylad I think I need about a decade of delayed games to catch up on my shame pile
Could it be to ensure that the install base is big enough?
Seems like a lot of current generation games are being delayed.
Starfield an Redfall are Series X/S (plus PC) exclusives aren't they?
Undeniably bad news, but I can live with it because I still have Xbox games that I want to buy in the meantime.
Resident Evil Village was announced back in june 2020 as being for the next gen consoles, but Capcom dialed back and made PS4/Xbox One versions as well.
Sony dialed back and made a PS4 version of Horizon FW too (plus some others as well - Demon's Souls sold badly so I think they will make a PS4 version as well).
Half expected this due to the lack of any proper game-play and only Concept art and I'd rather it be 'delayed' than released before its ready. Also says to me that MS are happy to ensure that these games are of the Quality expected and not 'compromised' by releasing into Game Pass.
I NEVER count on Games arriving on the date they say - especially if that date is set more than a Couple of months away. Far too many 'unexpected' things can happen that then puts more and more pressure on, leading to 'rushed' games and numerous other issues.
Just knowing something is in development, is coming when its 'Ready' to release, much better than being given a specific 'date' and then not being able to meet that date.
As for what Xbox 1st party has this year, maybe we will see soon enough - Forza Motorsport? Hellblade 2? Maybe Avowed? Maybe Gears 1-3 Remastered?
Its NOT that important to me, there will be Games available to play - whether I can play them on PS too or not, doesn't matter. Those games are coming - so maybe 2023 will be a much bigger year than we thought...
Its not as if H:FW, GT7, GoW:R and 'numerous' other Sony games were delayed. Sony should have had a 'better' 2021 but relied on 3rd Party a lot. Nintendo too announced the follow up to BotW was delayed to 2023 too. Makes you wonder what Sony would of released this year had their First Party games not been delayed into 2022. 2021 may of been 'better' than just R&C & Returnal but then 2022 would be EMPTY of first Party content...
Point is, there will be Games to Play regardless and more than enough releases to keep me entertained. So I won't be playing Starfield before Christmas, so maybe I'll be playing Hogwarts instead or Gotham Knights. Maybe play Scorn or other 3rd Party exclusives like Warhammer: Darktide.
NO delay has ever impacted my leisure time and just because a game is 'delayed' - Which is never the wrong decision (the wrong decision is ALWAYS to release a game 'too soon'), doesn't mean I will have 'nothing' to play...
Bethesda knows what they are doing, if they delayed it, I know it’ll be for the better. We don’t need anymore rushed games, I can wait.
While this is definitely the right call it does open up a LOT of questions like.
Why announce the release date for Starfield 18 months in advance?
What is Xbox Game Studios actually releasing this year? We're 5 months in and they've launched nothing. Deathloop will likely come to Xbox, but many will have played it on PC or PS5. What else?
It's OK. I think everyone has a lot of games to play. Better to have something enjoyable and not full of bugs.
This is not just bad news for Xbox, this is bad news for gaming. What else is there coming this year at all? I have zero expectation for God of War to come this year, and even if it did come, I am one of the few that didn’t love the last entry. For me GoW 3 was the high mark of the series, gameplay wise.
I guess there is Xenoblade 3 on the switch.
Star Field was honestly the only game I was hyped to play this year. Maybe Nintendo surprises us with a bomb drop of either Bayonetta 3, BOTW2 or Metroid Prime Remake.
Not a real surprise since we didn't have any gameplay stuff but I do hope this means that the game when released is polished as hell. Let us hope that we get to see some real surprises during the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase set for June 2022!
Also some big Game Pass releases we didn't expected to get!
I get to play PS God of War Ragnarok & some NS games so my wallet/backlog will be thankful. But if you're on Xbox only it's definitely not good news. They saw how people reacted to the whole Halo stuff & probably setting their overall software goals on 2023
Not a good look for Xbox at all these big games getting delayed. Not surprised about Redfall as it’s been way too quiet. But starfields date looked locked. They were even basically saying it was done last year and the extra time was dedicated to polish.
That’s a real shame. And stamps on Xbox’s momentum this year where they’ve been riding high with console sales of late. And I presume had planned to release a streaming dock alongside starfield this Christmas.
What Xbox has this year now is going to be telling…they’ve put out nothing first half of the year. Are we really just going to get another Forza to end the year off? Death loop is a cert…but they’ll get little credit for that
The only positive spin to place on these delays is that it goes against the current narration of day 1 subscription service releases having their quality effected…well, for Xbox anyway
Life goes on. The sun will rise, the rabbits will hump underbrush. I'd rather have it done right, than right now. Plenty of games to play in the meanwhile. If y'all need suggestions, I'm sure people will oblige.
@shgamer I doubt that matters because even Last Gen Xbox users could still play if they have a Game Pass Ultimate subscription so that they can use Cloud Gaming to play. Of course if you want to play 'locally', then you need minimum Spec hardware at least to play the game, even if its not the 'best' looking, best frame rate version.
However, with GPU, you could play on a Mobile/Tablet/Laptop/XB1 if that's all you have so no I really don't think its about Numbers.
Its going to cost MS more money as they continue to fund the development, paying their staff and the overheads to ensure that game is to up to the standard. As you see with some 3rd Party Devs, its more important to get games out so they can start generating revenue for them than keep increasing the costs and not getting revenue in...
@MiGke You are not wrong mate, I agree with everything you have said, but I'm as disappointed as many others.
@BAMozzy Ok, you're maybe right. It does seem like Xbox has momentum right now with Gamepass becoming popular (so popular that Sony are trying to do their version of it).
Also there's the global inflation with people's wages (and savings) becoming less worth. In that situation Gamepass could be a good way of saving some money (if people are not TOO specific in their gaming tastes).
@Tharsman new pokemon, splatoon 3, xenoblade chronicles 3, Bayonetta 3, God of war Ragnarok, Forspoken, soul hackers 2, final fantasy 16 (looks likely), new star ocean, Gotham Knights, Hogwarts legacy, Sonic frontiers, new saints row, plague tale 2, digimon Survive, Stalker 2, Deathloop, atomic heart, marvel midnight sun's, mario and rabbids 2, Lord of the rings gollum, callisto protocol, valkyrie elysium, mario strikerz, fire emblem warriors...
And many unannounced games
Take your pick
@Bdbrady
You can't just offer day 1 third party games because of lack of games. Those ones won't even be big ones. It has never happened. More stuff like outriders and back4blood.
Hmm this is only concerning to me because I am wondering what will happen to the timeline for the next TES game.
Glad I bought a Series console for it to collect dust. Lol. Hopefully Xbox has something this year. But honestly Atomic Heart, Scorn, and maybe Stalker might be the only things I play on Xbox for the rest of the year and I’m honestly not sure on If any of them will actually be good. This news is a huge loss for the Xbox community.
@UltimateOtaku91 nothing in that list other than Bayoneta 3 or GOW are speaking to me. Even then, I don’t expect either to make it this year, and my interest in GOW is not enough to buy it until it hits the discount bins.
Edit: i do am a bit hyped for Xenoblade 3, but nowhere near as much as i was for Star Field.
@Tharsman If you want the craziest stat of today:
PlayStation Studios has released more games on Xbox than Xbox Game Studios this year
It's a mad world we live in
I wasn’t looking forward to either of these. Delayed video games is a non-issue.
@Tharsman I guess I'm just not as selective. There are tons of titles I want coming out this year. Just no 1st party Xbox. Just the 3rd parties, but at least there are those. I'll not make it exhaustive, but here's a few of the titles I want to play:
Stray
Forespoken
FF16 (looks like this will be this year)
Gotham Knights
LOR Gollum
Plauge tail requiem
GOW Rangorok - which WILL be out this year.
Tchia (cant help - I love games like this)
Hogwarts
Little Devil Inside
etc etc.
Irrespective of what you personally want, I think we can agree that for a generic punter who just wants to buy new games there are fewer options on Xbox right now, and that kinda sucks.
@Dusk_Actual Lol, not much of a gamer huh?
@Tharsman @themightyant Technically Xbox has released more games on PlayStation than Xbox this year.
Let that sink in.
@Titntin GOW "WILL be out this year" huh? Lots of games have had release dates get pushed. I wouldn't count that chicken before it hatches.
Man this is bad for Xbox, They better show something good at the Xbox Bethesda showcase..
@Ralizah Yeah, Nintendo has a stacked calendar this year. I'm still not sure about the new gen pokemon considering Aceus is barely 4 months old. Not sure what to make of that. 2 'mon in a year would be crazy. I'm assuming Bayo3 because P* can't possibly still be working on it. Not sure I trust joycon with it though. MP4 has been really silent for a really long time. Normally they wouldn't launch all those big hitters all at once, but it's Nintendo, they launch everything in 3 months then go silent for 2.5 years...
@Ryu_Niiyama The possible good news is that I imagine a lot of the work on Starfield has been Creation Engine work and not just game assets (because let's be real, Creation needed a lot of work...) and most of that would carry into TES6. And coming into it with MS's resources probably puts the whole engine and QA piece a few steps ahead of where they would have been without MS. But it's TES. It's a near certainty we're 5 years out minimum.
@Lavalera @mousieone I forgot about that one. Not my kind of game so I don't think about it much, but I know that's huge, I remember way back in my PC days everyone raving about the first game.
I assumed it would be indefinitely delayed as well, but other smaller Ukrainian studios have been putting out games still, Push just did an interview with a Kiev-based one and it was almost-kind-of-lockdown-remote-business-as-usual and they said the enjoyed the normality provided by the work, so I assume Stalker is still proceeding as planned, though I assume a delay of some sort is still a given just due to inherently slowed work. (Plus, they need the money, so it's not as if business can just stop, slowed or not.)
The bigger problem for them might be, IIRC they have either staff or a satellite studio in Belarus. THAT would be a big issue since that part of the company would be entirely out of production. And obviously as affected locations shift, different places are affected more. That dev in the Push interview sounded like maybe they spread out in different places so everyone's not in the same area.
@mousieone Yep that too! Ghostwire and MLB 2022
@themightyant I expect xbox to release some stuff this year, just nothing big. Unless the rumors of Forza Motorsport coming this year are accurate, that would be a big title even if I personally don't care for it.
I do expect us to get a definitive edition of Death Loop, at the very least.
@Titntin there are some games I am interested in playing, but there is a difference between "interested in playing it" and I-cant-wait-for-this hype.
Gotham Knights is a potential halfway there game, for hype, but I am very skeptic and it will heavily depend on reviews and player reactions on the first few weeks. So, not a day one deal for me.
Howards, I wont get into but I will likely pick up a used copy sometime down the road.
When they announced the release date over a year ago and provided no gameplay as of yet- it was going to happen. Still all good things…
@Tharsman Yep they'll definitely have something launching this year, it just likely won't be the heavy hitters. Deathloop for sure, perhaps Grounded (it's currently in Early access with a 2022 ETA) and hopefully Forza Motorsport, but also wouldn't be surprised if those get pushed to 2023 too. Plus there's likely to be some smaller surprises.
Regardless as I said in another post Game Pass gives more good games each month than I ever have time to play, and lack of first party usually means they go bigger on the third party releases. So we still win
@themightyant yea, there is plenty out there for Xbox players to play in Game Pass, and not just old/indie games as many people imply.
Honestly, this might just incentivize XBox to pursue some third party day one games much more aggressively, so they can give us some big surprise like, I don't know (example not hypothesizing or rumor mongering) if they paid WB a ton of money not for exclusivity but to get Gotham Knights into game pass day one.
that news surprised exactly 0 people. we all knew that Starfield was gonna be delayed.
@Trmn8r Yeah bro. I’m not much of a gamer bc I’m not excited for two games out of thousands that will release this year.
Edit: maybe it’s only hundreds of games that’ll release. I honestly cba to check
@Dusk_Actual Hah, I knew you weren't cuz both these games look very cool. Starfield especially.
@Trmn8r let me just get this out of the way and tell you that for me to get upset or be insulted by anything you write would require me to care about your opinion first.
I really don’t. Sorry.
Considering Halo Infinite is still in the situation it is. I completely agree with this decision.
@Trmn8r lol. I can't t dispute your statements, very true. But im very confident on this particular title, and thats rare for me. I dont think we have long to wait to find out.
... And i dont need it anyway, im hyped for stray. Why be a god when you can be a cat?
On the one hand: Always better to have a delay than a Cyberpunk situation.
On the other hand: I am super disappointed.
I have been at the same job for 15 years (!), and the only major breaks we get are around Thanksgiving and Christmas when our offices close for a bit. I try to play a big game around those times that I can really savor, and I was really looking forward to Starfield being that game for this year.
It is on me for not tempering my expectations, and I will def. be ready to play whenever this finally drops. But I am just super disappointed at this moment. Really looking forward to this.
@Dusk_Actual That's a pretty long response for someone who doesn't care lol! You seem to be taking what I said quite seriously when it should be obvious.
anyoine surprised by this obviously dont follow gaming closely, this was the easiest delay to predict as they have yet to show any images or in game footage of either game thats been worth a damn.
