Update (Wed, 27th April, 2022 16:40 BST): Bethesda's migration process is now open! If you wish to move your Bethesda library over to Steam, the publisher has detailed the process in a new blog post.
Original article (Wed 23rd Feb, 2022 06:00 GMT): Starfield and Elder Scrolls developer Bethesda has announced it will be retiring its 'Bethesda.net' launcher on PC later this year.
From early April, users will be able to migrate their games and any existing digital currency over to Steam. And for games that require it, users will still have to use their Bethesda.net login to sign in and play.
In the same announcement, Bethesda also made it clear how these accounts would continue to be accessible on Bethesda's website, in-game, and would continue to be supported in future titles.
If you want to learn more about this sunsetting process, there's a detailed FAQ over on Bethesda's website.

imagine how many unnecessary project/team managers, LPOs, FCOs, there are that running luncher is unprofitable...
Bet we will see the same eventually from Activision Blizzard if the acquisition goes through.
Battle.net signings still required for online games but games moving to be sold and launched from Steam (and Windows Store and Game Pass, of course.)
Good. I know GOG had somekind of launcher that put all other launchers in there, but I do think it's about time all these launchers got scrapped and moved onto a single storefront, or just standalone clients.
Honestly good on Microsoft. They didn't have to do this and could have consolidated everything under their own Windows Store instead, which would have gone down like a lead balloon.
This is great news haha
This is for the best. You can already get Xbox games between the Windows Store and Steam, a Bethesda launcher is not needed.
Those launchers only had 1 purpose, to force DRM crap on its users. I hope that every launcher, especially Ubisoft's, goes bust.
"We're saying goodbye to the Bethesda Launcher this year, and transitioning our PC Bethesda net communities over to Steam starting April 27th"
"From early April, users will be able to migrate their games"
The 27th of april isnt early FFS
How will that work with doom when you need a Bethesda.net account
@Would_you_kindly They answered this question in their FAQ. In response to the question "Will I still need a Bethesda.net account if I no longer use the launcher after transferring to Steam?" they wrote:
Yes. Many of our games and services still rely on you to have a Bethesda.net account. This will allow you to retain access to Bethesda.net services including game mods, in-game items like skins, and access to exclusive news and updates.
So the account is still needed for playing games, the launcher just won't be available anymore...
Just migrated today. Painless and games now in Steam. One less launcher is a blessing.
