Star Wars Eclipse took our collective breaths away when it was announced as part of The Game Awards last year, but our hopes were very quickly dashed as it was suggested the game was only just starting its development process.
Following this, a report from reliable journalist Tom Henderson at XFire claimed that we could be looking at a release window of 2027 or 2028, which led to a lot of Star Wars fans drumming up a rumour that the game had been "delayed", although Henderson never actually used this word in his initial report.
Nevertheless, Star Wars Eclipse developer Quantic Dream issued a rather stern response to the "delayed" claims recently in a statement to GamesRadar, telling the website it had "never announced or promised a launch window".
"Star Wars Eclipse has not been delayed because Quantic Dream never announced or promised a launch window for the title. Recruiting remains active as it works on Star Wars Eclipse, third-party publishing, and unannounced projects."
It was also mentioned in the XFire report that the game's initial trailer had "not had the desired effect of attracting developer talent to the studio" hence the targeted 2027-2028 launch, although as you can see from the quote above, Quantic Dream says the recruitment "remains active". The company also reportedly advised GamesRadar via an email announcement that the studio increased its workforce by 50% in 2021.
Ultimately, whether you want to say it's "delayed" or not, it definitely sounds like Star Wars Eclipse is many years away, so it's probably not worth getting too excited over this one for now. Let's hope we don't have to wait that long though.
What are your thoughts on Star Wars Eclipse so far? Tell us down in the comments.

Well, they've given pretty much no info on the game. So I pretty much feel nothing. So far they haven't given me a reason to have the game on my radar. Anybody can whip up a nice CGI trailer and release a pile of hot garbage thereafter.
“Star Wars Eclipse has not been delayed because Quantic Dream never announced or promised a launch window for the title.”
So still 2027 or 2028 then 😂
The fact that it was never given a release window means that it cannot be 'delayed'. At most, they can 'change' their expected development time but its still speculation rather than a 'delay'.
The fact this is a Quantic Dream game is enough for me not to be excited for this. I have never liked their style of games - Fahrenheit, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, Detroit: Become Human etc just didn't do it for me and making 'something' similar but with a 'Star Wars' licence isn't going to change that.
In the same way that I don't like 'turn based tactical' game-play so not interested in Xcom and wrapping that gameplay in a different skin, like Gears Tactics or Marvels Midnight Suns don't interest me despite liking the Gears and Marvel universe.
I'll still keep my eye on it, just in case they do something surprisingly different for their Studio but I would assume that Detroit would set the 'template' and got the license because of what style of games they make. It adds more variety to the Star Wars licenced titles to appeal to a wider audience...
Yeah, Idk how that narrative got started. With no release window given, it can't be "delayed."
Sits back and waits for when they do come out with a release window ....then delay it
"it was not delayed, it was announced prematurely!!!"
Honestly, not sure what sources I paid attention to, but i never took it as "delayed" and instead of a messaging of "don't dream of playing it anytime soon, it might launch by the end of the generation" kind of thing.
Wow they have a bad attitude. Not sure why they bothered to make that expensive trailer when they had no game. It’s all just a bit rubbish in my eyes. Concentrate on making a good game and then come and show me.
@Stocksy "Recruiting remains active as it works on Star Wars Eclipse, third-party publishing, and unannounced projects."
Games announced years before release including Cyberpunk 2077, Elder Scrolls 6, Metroid Prime 4 etc use announcement trailers as recruitment marketing to introduce their vision, a pitch to recruit the best talent. "Hey we are making this star wars game, please come work for us".
It's not a sales pitch to entice people to buy a game that has yet to start any real development.
An interesting point here is that although players always presume announcement trailers are aimed at them and may complain about things being announced to early, these early trailers are often part of recruitment drives and not a early part of the sales cycle.
