Microsoft Flight Simulator uses real satellite data to project what is basically the entire globe. However, certain areas, locations and landmarks are hand crafted by the developer to further flesh out the game's environments.
These locations are still being updated after launch, and the latest Microsoft Flight Simulator World Update covers the Iberian Peninsula. Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar and Andorra have all been enhanced, with iconic locations like Barcelona updated with some of the city's most recognisable landmarks.
These trailers are extremely well done and to be honest, it's kind of awe-inspiring how much detail Asobo has crammed into Microsoft Flight Simulator. Even the non-enhanced areas look extremely convincing while taking flight!
This particular update goes live today, March 24th, across both the PC and Xbox Series X|S versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator. In total, World Update 8 delivers four handcrafted airports, 99 custom points of interest, four bush trips, four new discovery flights, and five new landing challenges.

I just want a manual cache system on console, like on PC. My broadband is not good enough to stream all those gorgeous graphics and I want to have the possibility to DL them in advance.
We can do it on PC, so why not on Xbox Series ?
Have they added the option yet to download “world updates” whilst not actually playing? It’s annoying having to be in the game’s menus to download these.
@Bobobiwan I think you're able to, just navigate to the in game store and you can download these updates for offline use, at least that's what I think they are for.
Been playing on my brother's PC with the authentic flight equipment and loving it! Currently debating whether I should stick with my S/X controllers or just order the Xbox flight instruments. Never played this on the Xbox as of yet, but heard it looks outstanding on the Series X.
@Nightcrawler71 It seems to be because they use their own compression system.
YO, finally Portugal is getting some well deserved recognition! NICE!
@Bloodborne75 I went for the Thrustmaster T fight Hotas 1 on Series X. It's so much better than using the controller. Under $100. It's also brilliant for Star Wars Squadrons - also on gamepass.
@TJ81 Awesome! I figured Id go flight controls but want the yoke like
my future Tesla 👍
