We're just a few short months away from E3 season, and the rumours are already ramping up. While E3 itself ain't happening this year, many companies still focus on the summer for announcements, including Xbox. This year, it's looking like the Forza Motorsport reboot could be a big one for Microsoft.
That's according to VentureBeat journalist Jeff Grubb, who spoke about Xbox's lineup for 2022 and beyond on a recent podcast. Grubb expects Forza Motorsport, Redfall and Starfield to be what Xbox focuses on in 2022, with the rest of the portfolio to follow in 2023 and beyond.

This isn't all that surprising, given what we know about each of these three games. The last we heard on Arkane's Redfall it was aiming for a "summer 2022" release, while the other Bethesda heavy hitter, Starfield, has a proper release date of November 11th, 2022.
When it comes to Forza Motorsport, things are a little more hazy. We've not heard anything on a release timeframe, but the game has been in development for five years, and private playtests took place last summer. Microsoft will be keen to launch its Forza reboot soon then, especially in the wake of Gran Turismo 7.
Do you think Forza Motorsport will hit this year? Or are we in for delay? Let us know in the comments.

I know there is nothing I am looking forward to more by this point. Forza 5 is why I loved having an Xbox One when it launched.
On a side note, is E3 even still a thing? Seems pointless these days, and like it lost all it's value. Everyone seems to have their own shows these days, and it's all online now anyways.
@JayJ E3 seems to live on in spirit but not in name. Geoff Keighley's 'Summer Game Fest' has basically taken over, but that tends to be spread across multiple events. I expect Xbox to have a big show somewhere in the summer.
So we could still be getting Forza, Redfall and Starfield this year, it's very quiet they need to make some announcements
My hatred for 'leakers' and speculators grows more unreasonable by the day. I have an unexplainable disdain for Jeff Grubb and the hurricane of hype and disappointment that is generated by it all.
@JayJ I don't know about E3; but I am attending PAX East in April! Really looking forward to it!
@BBB Me too. Polyphony has this tendency to carry things across generations, where Turn 10 tends to use that time to rebuild. A full rebuild on Series X|S is an exciting prospect.
Gran Turismo 7 is really fun to play, if Forza Motorsport 8 can just match it Xbox fans are in for a treat.
I've only recently discovered gyro steering in GT7.
The experience is so transformative, I can't play another proper racing game without it - or using a proper wheel.
I was very much looking forward to Forza Motorsport, but without gyro being available on Xbox, its unfortunately dead to me, as I wont buy a steering wheel just for that game. Its a shame as the gyro is in the other current gen machines and its only Xbox that hasn't bothered.
So that's only Redfall and Starfield as potential 1st part AAA's, and I'm not at all excited for Redfall and I'd be surprised if we see Starfield before 2024 (I'd love to be wrong though).
I'm not blown away by the offerings we get this year and I do hope they continue to buy us some decent 3rd party day one releases on GP so I remember why I'm on the platform!
Fantastic news! Racing fans eatin good lately, can wait to see more of this beast!
"Jeff thinks that Xbox will have the usual big E3 showcase this year".
That's a huge call Jeff. Does Jeff also predict there will be more games released on Gamepass this year?
@tanaka2687 so is it you hate him doing his job. (Guy has a show on giantbomb where it is mostly this thing). Or Jez who also is his man job as those leaks brings in the clicks for Windows central?
@tanaka2687 I am not a big fan of the constant hype machine but Jeff seems super reserved. Basically all of his rumors are accurate and timely.
2022? The problem is that we have seen absolutely nothing since the trailer announcing the game.
@tanaka2687 I firmly, completely, utterly, stand by my "golden rule" of game releases. If the game is not guaranteed of going gold in 6 months, the developer needs to keep their mouth shut.
All it does is set expectations of a release, stress employees making the game, force developer to release game in alpha or beta state if not ready by stated date. More importantly, farther out you mention a game, EVERY game that is out before that will be compared in quality, story, modes, game mechanics, etc. If game lacks any of that people will go, why this game not having, x, y, and z, it's new.
Why even bother put yourself in ANY of the above situations when you have ZERO need to do so.
@RBRTMNZ More hype I hear about a game that is farther out, less I care. Just another chance of game getting canceled, delayed, rebooted, released far too early, etc.
Why even bother to invest my time in something may not even see for years.
Any AAA game that was hyped for year or more finally comes out but another AAA game or lower tier announced and it in 6 months and out at same time is the one I'm going to buy and play since it's fresh in my mind. Not some regurgitated mess ad nauseum for year or more. Just kills all hype to me.
If all they have is these 3 games, 2022 is going to be a bit of a let down vs 2021.
Forza Motorsport being a sim won't be to everyone's tastes compared to Forza Horizon.
Redfall being an online 4 player game outside of Arkane's comfort zone could be hit or miss.
Obviously Starfield will be HUGE, but that's a November game.
I'd imagine we will also see Deathloop around September/October.
@Titntin I'll be picking Forza over GT simply because you can't play GT if you're not connected to the internet aslong as Microsoft don't do the same thing with the next Forza then that will be my go to sim racer
@Would_you_kindly
Fair point - if you need or desire offline, there really no choice is there?
I'm fortunate, I game at home and am always connected regardless so its not a factor for me.. I hope its a good game regardless..
@Titntin my consoles always connected to the internet aswell I just don't want to buy a game that I can't play if my internet goes down or there's server maintenance & when the servers get shut down
@Would_you_kindly
Thanks for explaining - I do get your concerns, which are perfectly valid, I just don't share them.
My net hasn't gone down in a decade, I'm simply not bothered by server maintenance and have yet to have a game impacted by such, and games I buy this year will be played, completed and usually finished with this year, so worrying about some future time in 5 or 6 years when the server gets switched off is not something I need to concern myself with. After a lifetime watching the industry rise and being a big gamer for more than 4 decades, I know for a fact that I need a game to work for 2 years and then its dead to me no matter what it is.
Whilst I'll concede that all things being equal, a game without constant online is more desirable, it affects me personally so little as to make no difference at all to my purchase decisions.
There are plenty of people who need offline and for them this is a big deal. For others who seem to have adopted it as a 'cause' the only thing they are doing is depriving themselves of access to games titles, which is their choice and wont affect anyone except them.
