It looks like an old friend could be making a return very soon, we just don't know who exactly it is...
According to VGC editor and ex-Playtonic writer Andy Robinson, a "super spy" may potentially be making a comeback within the next few weeks. Here's his brief teaser message that was shared over on Twitter. Graslu00 - an individual associated with last year's leaked Xbox 360 remaster also responded:
One character that immediately comes to mind is James Bond. To add to this, Andy's pal Chris Dring - head of GamesIndustry.biz - is wearing a GoldenEye 007 themed watch in a follow-up photo.
Of course, there are many other "super spy" out there. Some have suggested Sam Fisher (Splinter Cell), Cate Archer (No One Lives Forever), Joanna Dark (Perfect Dark), Snake (Metal Gear Solid), and even some classic spy games.
In saying this, James Bond is perhaps the most convincing one of the lot. As you might recall, at the start of this year, Xbox achievements for GoldenEye 007 game surfaced online - revealing 55 achievements for 1000 gamerscore - with some images even leaking:
There's also a brand new James Bond game on the way, from the Hitman developer IO Interactive. Again though - we don't know specifically who this super spy could potentially be.
Andy Robinson previously revealed Rockstar would be releasing three remasters, which turned out to be Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition.
Do you think James Bond will be the one to return? Who else could this spy be? Leave a comment below.

That’d be nice. Never played the golden eye before so I’d love to play it through gamepass
Alpha protocol remastered!
I'm so happy you mentioned Cate Archer. Maybe someday sooner, thanks to Microsoft acquiring Activision.
No One Lives Forever deserves a return. It was a better game than Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.
Well, the Game Pass line-up for the second half of Feb will be announced in about a week, so it wouldn't be a shock to see this Goldeneye remaster included in that release statement.
Would he pleasantly shocked if it was no one lives forever. As my understanding is nobody knows who owns the rights and trying to find out is an extremely expensive process.
If Goldeneye turns out to be something, that would mean Nintendo is on board. I wouldn't be surprised if a Switch version is announced either along side of it or shortly after. I can't imagine we will have to wait too long after this to see Game Pass come to Switch.
@CaptainCluck
blasphemy!
Ooooh, I'd take either Goldeneye, or the new I|O Bond game in development😁 probably the new game moreso.
Good to see you 1998; how I missed you.
Come on, don't make us wait any longer!
I hope it's Goldeneye 007! I really want to play through it again 😃
@CaptainCluck
Never heard of this game but it looks interesting. Just ordered a copy of it for PS2 off eBay.
I wish the rumors would stop for now. Still waiting for Chrono Cross remaster rumor from 2021 to become reality in addition to Super Mario RPG sequel rumor from 2020.
Yes! Please be GoldenEye, I’ve been looking forward to it being on Xbox since those leaks a month back and was concerned we were never going to hear any thing else about it.
I think it would be most likely to be announced during a Nintendo Direct and there's usually one in February.
@Grumblevolcano Phil Spencer popping up in a Nintendo Direct would be something (to announce a joint project).
I don't think that it will be released on Switch. Nintendo's publishing rights have expired and the game copyright belongs to Rare (Microsoft), the IP belongs to Danjaq and the movie to MGM/Eon. Unless Microsoft wants to make a multiplatform release, obviously. It has happened before with the remaster of Banjo-Kazooie on Xbox and the N64 version on Nintendo Online. I can see that Microsoft is the force behind this revival since Nintendo stopped the Xbox 360 remaster when they had the publishing rights. And yes, I think it's Goldeneye 007 because of all the hints, including the watch.
Please, let it be Goldeneye.
I really hope it's Goldeneye would be amazing to play it again.
Fingers crossed for Goldeneye. Would love to try this game out again. Played it back in the day on my cousins 64 and we had a blast. I was never any good at it, but of course I’ve grown as a gamer since.
If this release is Xbox only I hope it will be available on Xbox One instead of Series X/S only. I still haven’t been able to purchase a Series X console yet.
@Scummbuddy I'm with you! Cate Archer is great. Someone needs to bring NOLF back.
@Don The last achievement list that was leaked for this game is for an Xbox One game.
I've given up on seeing either Goldeneye or Splinter Cell. I'd like to see NOLF more than anything. Absolutely loved those games back in the day. I don't know if there are still ownership issues with that game though.
