The release of WWE 2K22 is right around the corner on March 11th, but it's been a while since we've heard anything about the announced AEW game for consoles. Fortunately, AEW star Kenny Omega has shared some fresh insight.
Speaking to Wrestling Observer Radio (thanks to Wrestling Inc. for the transcription), Omega explained that the team is hoping to share some fresh footage soon, and they're working "nonstop around the clock" on the game.
He went on to speak a little more about what his personal hopes are for the project, admitting that the game won't be able to compete graphically with WWE 2K22, but he's hoping the gameplay will make up for it:
“It is coming along, and for us, at least for me, there’s a, there’s a large emphasis on just the wrestling aspect of the game. We want the wrestling to, and it’s tough to get that balance, but we want it to feel like, how a match would flow with, within a video game. So you know the matches will go, probably go, probably in general, go a little quicker."
“We’ll never be to compete with the production value of WWE’s game. You look at 2K22, it’s absolutely gorgeous. So I’m excited to see all their bells and whistles when it finally releases. But for us, rather than pushing, pushing the envelope massively or anything like that, we just want the wrestling to feel like how it used to feel for the people who would play wrestling games back in the day. And just have fun with fellow wrestling fans, or, you know, people that just want to have fun with their buddies."
We still don't know anything about a release date for this one as of yet, although Omega did suggest last year that he was hoping for a 2022 launch, which seems unlikely. The game is being developed by former WWE 2K and SmackDown! developer Yukes, with WWF No Mercy director Hideyuki “Geta” Iwashita also attached to the project.
Although we haven't seen any new footage in a while, you can check out the most recent snippet below.

Been looking forward to this for awhile. It doesn't matter to me how long it takes as long as we don't get a broken mess of a game like recent WWE games.
Kenny olivia, terrible excuse for a wrestler.
So long as it's not one of those awful 2K WWE games I'm interested.
@Luigisghost669 another fan of Corny I see 😏 while I don’t agree with him that Omega is terrible I agree with him about other AEW related issues like the extraordinary case of the incredible shrinking Cole 😂
I’m looking forward to this game, it has a good Dev with experience behind it and I do enjoy AEW on the whole. It’ll be done when it’s done but hopefully it’s not too long off.
It honestly has nothing to do with corny. I’ve been watching since the road to wrestlemania 9 in 1993 and omega, to me it just not a main event star. Every thing about him screams Saturday morning superstars or challenge jobber.
More Wrestling, Corny and Xbox crossover fans. Hi!!
I'm looking forward to this game, I'm hoping it really captures the fun of the old WWF games, I don't care of it has a retro look to match. It will give it some charm.
As for Omega, I don't agree with Corny on him, I like him, but I enjoy listening to Corny for his historical knowledge and agree with some of his opinions.
Adam Cole was mentioned above, I think he's awful, a tiny dude who's never seen a gym, terrible hair, body, now he looks like a jobber, I could imagine him being powerbombed to oblivion by Sid Vicious in late 80s WCW. 🤣
None of these comments make me feel confident really. I remember the TNA game. 20 or so wrestlers and so so limited. It obviously didn’t play brilliant either. Even if this plays brilliant if it doesn’t have replayability and certain features it will be disappointing. With the roster AEW has and the legends it now has feature regularly the roster itself should be amazing.
It sounds more like they are aiming for a NO mercy tech demo for the first game.
