Quick, everyone act surprised! CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077's free Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S upgrade is available TODAY, and you can start downloading it right now. It clocks in at around a whopping 62GB.
The two next-gen consoles benefit from a variety of improvements as part of this update, including two different graphics modes on Series X — Performance (4K, 60fps) and Ray-Tracing (4K, 30fps). The Xbox Series S, meanwhile, only gets the one graphics mode (Performance), which targets a 1440p resolution at 30 frames per-second.
"With the update, Cyberpunk 2077 takes advantage of the additional power of the newest generation of console hardware, allowing for ray tracing features and 4K with dynamic scaling, faster loading times, and a variety of other visual and technical improvements."
The next-gen update is part of the Patch 1.5 drop for Cyberpunk 2077, which introduces an absolutely colossal number of improvements and fixes to the game, the full patch notes of which we've detailed elsewhere on Pure Xbox.
Cyberpunk 2077's Xbox Series X and Series S version is also getting a free five-hour trial today, so you can check out the game before deciding whether to buy it. If you do decide to buy it, it's 50% off as part of this week's Xbox deals.

Dynamic 4K @ 60fps or 30fps with Ray Traced shadows. Personally I’ll be trying the performance mode. Not sure what other visual changes there are, if any, but it looks like it’s time for me to jump in. Really hope Digital Foundry can cover this at some point.
Played it in 30 fps already, so all the extra eye candy will be sweet. But this update is way more than a graphics update. There is a ton of tweaks and added stuff. Will play from the beginning instead of continue on my old save. Loved it before, so should be even better now.
It is also on sale on PlayStation 4/5 for $25 vs $30 for Xbox Series. I was leaning to buy it on Xbox, but now Im hesitant.
@Jarobusa You can buy it second hand for cheaper than even that anyway.
30fps on the Series S was how I was playing it before the update. Won't be rushing back into it.
Im 100% digital. I did buy it when it came out but got a refund on PlayStation.
Why aren't the same price...
Anyone know what the Smart Delivery for Series S size is?
I'll finally try the game now. Waited to buy since felt was going to have ton bugs/issues. Then it came out and was way worse than even I thought it would be. So figured best wait for patch and next gen patch for great experience. It's here now. Hope I enjoy.
@Krysus It was about 60gb for me
Glad I finished it when it came out.
I was expecting HUGE improvements, but it seems like a very bare bones next-gen upgrade.
I will reserve full judgement until Digital Foundry take a look, but on paper and from the video they've released, it doesn't look much better.
I bought the disc version one month ago and I "only" have the Serie S... I will play it on X1X.
Right...now CDPR can move on to the serious business of The Witcher 3 upgrade!
Surely a 1080p 60fps performance mode would have been possible on the XSS?
With the current 1440p 30fps mode being the quality mode.
Even if the settings were the standard Xbox one game, and maybe a dynamic 1080p.
I hate it when the XSS only gets one mode. Grrrrrr
Raytracing mode needs some updated language in the game itself. It says shadows AND reflections; but, as the spec sheet says, it's only shadows. Reflections are still very much of the screen-space variety.
Honestly, stick with 60fps. Unless you are looking at static items on a table when you turn RT on and off, you probably wouldn't notice any visual difference between the two - well, except for the drop in framerate, of course.
Strange the Series S is only 30 FPS, The Series S is definitely cabable of running Xbox one games at 60FPS..
So what there are separate achievements for the series version?
I do wish XSX games would give more options. This game should have a RT performance mode, 60fps and dynamic 1440p, for those that care more about performance and eye candy than resolution.
I also wish Flight Simulator had a 1080p60 option.
@Nightcrawler71 Saber Interactive are the studio working on Witcher 3 for X|S. They did the Switch port too.
@blinx01 You should check out the other article here about the 1.5 patch. This is far from bare bones.
So, will you guys do a Series X review?
Ngl starting to dislike when developers do 1440p 30 instead of 900p/1080p 60fps on series S. No one got a series S for 1440p rez so why make that a priority smh
Interested to play but recently started Fallout 4 GOTY after having it as a dust collector for years — love it!
Looks like I’ll be playing this after another patch or two. And yes, I already picked this up on the cheaps, lol.
XSS 30fps is sad
@Gr81 I couldn't agree more. Booted the game up with the new patch this morning though and it looks pretty good. Need a couple more hours with it before I'm willing to play through it again. Either way that will have to wait until I'm done with Horizon Forbidden West and a ton of back catalog games I'm more interested in.
@Jarobusa Not sure why the pricing is different. Tried it last night on both consoles and couldn't notice any glaring differences. But it's harder when not side by side.
But I did think DualSense support was pretty good. Was also going to get it on XSX but undecided now. Waiting for Digital Foundry or NX gamer to do a deep analysis before jumping in.
