I already own mass effect and embr but damn glad they been put on GP, I'm actually jealous of the ones who get to try it for the first time ...your in for a treat
I finally get to experience the much talked about story of Mass Effect in it's entirety.
@Quaali Hot take: the story is so talked about because the gameplay and level design in Mass Effect are below average.
I could not find Mass effect on the EA play menu, for now. Guess it's gonna be added really soon, now !
Christmas burn-out? Here, play 4 all-time great games... thanks xbox
Just need to finish the Pedestrian so that I can start Mass Effect
@Magabro Which Andromeda improves upon! But because that game had a poor launch, nobody talks about it even though it's really good.
I'm still working my way through Halo Infinite Campaign but will give Mass Effect a go again very soon. The Mass Effect games never quite clicked with me before but now is the best time to try again...
It's either indie games that I've already played or games that came out years ago. Come on Game Pass give us real games......
Was Outer Wilds on GP previously? I'm sure I remember thinking I was going to try it before it left but never got around to it...
@Carck You're right, being able to jump, hover and dash in a Mass Effect game is garbage. They should just go back to making the series a boring cover-based shooter.
@Magabro I think that's a pretty fair assessment in some ways. Though the main 'gameplay' in Mass effect isn't the shooting, it's the exploration of space and culture. Dialogue trees and intrigue. Characters, relationships and plot. The combat is a secondary device at best.
@LtSarge In some ways Andromeda's exploration was better, however it also fell into that Dragon Age: Inquisition trap of assuming bigger is always better, it felt empty. Combat was improved too. But as I said above these are all secondary in Mass Effect and it was worse in just about every way that mattered.
My hot take is I liked the Mako in ME1!
@Martsmall Jumping into ME for the first time ever. Any tips? The length is daunting, and I fear I'll lose interest 70% of the way in. Though I did beat Valhalla and P5R last year, so there is hope!
@themightyant while I do agree with you that the main course of a Mass Effect game is the story, the dialogue and the relationships you build, you spend an awful lot of time shooting things in narrow corridors while taking cover in those games. And the combat is not great for some games that have so much combat.
Mass Effect would be better as a Telltale episodic adventure
@Magabro I agree the combat could be better but I disagree it would be better as a Telltale style adventure.
Tempo and pacing are important and mixing things up manages this. If ALL it was was dialogue trees many would get fatigued and it likely wouldn't be the classic game it was.
Super excited to give them all a try.
@Bdbrady yeh try to keep gd relationships with your squad mates ,it feels ike they always want something but it is worth it in the end especially if you want a SPECIAL relationship with anyone ( there is achivements for that )
Mass Effect, but I have a disc copy I just bought last week.
I think i'm finally gonna go through the Mass Effect Trilogy..
Lol! So much garbage takes on Mass Effect in here... All I see is Presentism (a historical term meaning judging past actions by today’s standards) on full display. Mass Effect was a total gem for its time and is still solid to this day, even with some outdated mechanics. Nothing immersed you in another universe like Mass Effect did. And whatever shortfalls the combat had in ME1, ME2 remedied.
As much as I would love to play Mass Effect, I have a long backlog to kill before I can think about any other games right now:
Tales of Arise
Halo Infinite
Metroid: Samus Returns
Guardians of the Galaxy
Deathloop
Nioh
Nioh II
Alan Wake Remastered
Metro Exodus
@GamingFan4Lyf Samus Returns is excellent! One of the best games I played last year.
@mcdreamer I emulated it for a couple days on my PC (just to try it out) after finishing Metroid Dread and it prompted me to ask for the proper release for Christmas. The 3D provides an awesome sense of scale to the world!
I will say MercurySteam has found a great niche in making 2D Metroid titles. Both of its Metroid games have been top-notch!
@GamingFan4Lyf Yeah, the 3D is amongst the best on the system that I've seen. Agree that both of the MercurySteam games were excellent.
As for Mass Effect, I'm also in the same position as you are. I'd love to try the games but I just can't see how I'll find the time to fit them in! I've not even finished the Halo Infinite campaign yet, I have the back end of Arise to finish and it's not that long before Elden Ring drops! And that's not even the full backlog
I already own Mass Effect, but it's a fantastic one to see being added. I've always fancied trying The Outer Wilds, so I'm happy with this drop. Kudos, Microsoft.
Welp I'm willing to play through ME 1 again.
@mcdreamer In my opinion, the original Mass Effect is the only one to play.
I hated how Mass Effect 2 made it more "video gamey" and broke what made Mass Effect so special for me. Bioware decided to simplify weapon loadouts and armor, made obvious separations of combat and non-combat sections (rather than "seamlessly" blend them together), and added Mission Complete screens (REALLY?!). I never even bothered with ME 3 as I couldn't stand the changes made to the 2nd game to care anymore.
@GamingFan4Lyf Good to know. If I do ever get to the games I'll keep that in mind. I guess whether I'd play 2 and 3 would end up depending on if the story hooks me.
@BBB Cry much? No one told you, you can't have an opinion lol! My opinion is that your opinion is garbage if you think Mass Effect is a below average game. Man, people really can't handle having their thoughts challenged these days...
Using a streamer yelling like an idiot in a trailer is a sure fire way to ensure that I won't even touch your game for free.
Awesome that ME is on Gamepass. Was just looking at it on PSN today as it was half off. Free is a much better deal!
@dmcc0 I thought the same thing. I could of swore it came out around the same time as The Outer Worlds on Game Pass which confused some people. Unless it was removed and now it's back.
@BBB Absurd takes can get called out for their absurdity. You can play the victim if you want though. You have a lovely week now (I can do the fake kindness thing too).
@Tasuki Quick web search suggests it left at the end of June last year, so looks like it's coming back
These are good games. I’d be far more hyped if I hadn’t played them all years ago.
This coming to GP is really cool.
@BBB Lol yeah, you are clearly comfortable... Way to put words in my mouth. Cuz I totally said anyone who has different views than me is absurd... Your passive aggressive whining and straw-manning really shows how noble you are. Hope your back doesn't hurt with all the self-patting you do. Now be a good lad and go ride off into the sunset on your white horse you arrived on.
