Had enough news about potential delays, yet?! We've got another one for you — the highly-anticipated Hogwarts Legacy is reportedly "in some kind of trouble", and therefore apparently won't be releasing in 2022 at all.
This is courtesy of journalist Colin Moriarty on the Sacred Symbols+ podcast (transcribed by VGC), who mentioned that he's "hearing behind the scenes that game is not coming out this year, and that it’s in some sort of trouble.”
Unfortunately, Moriarty didn't reveal any further details, so we can only speculate on the rest for now.
The Harry Potter open-world action RPG was originally intended to release in 2021 before it was delayed to 2022 twelve months ago, and we haven't really seen anything of it since. Last month, the team behind the game promised to share "more news and updates" this year, but it doesn't look like it's gearing up for a release anytime soon.
Sad about this? Were you expecting a potential delay to 2023? Let us know in the comments.

Hogwarts Legacy does not exist in a vacuum. There are important discussions being had about the views and opinions held by the creator of the Harry Potter universe – views and opinions which we do not agree with.
Our goal is to create and foster a positive environment for people – all people – to discuss and celebrate video games, not to amplify ignorance or provide a forum for unconstructive arguments. As per our community rules, we do not accept any form of hate speech on our platform.
This game is gonna get cancelled. It’s clear it’s issues on issues
considering the last year hasn't seen things return to 'pre-pandemic' conditions, I wouldn't be surprised if that still continues to disrupt development times and therefore impact their release schedule plans...
Time to work on our backlogs! 😂
It can stay unreleased for as long as it wants. I, and a lot of my friends, have sworn off that franchise altogether.
Not that it's hard as there's been nothing compelling released in a decade; be it books, games, movies, or jelly beans.
I'm fine with it potentially being delayed. Gives me time to play my huge backlog. Plus when Starfiels comes out nothing else matters (for me anyways).
Was really really looking forward to this one.
This was one of the reasons I knew I’d have to eventually get a next gen console. Thankfully there’s other good stuff on the XSX so I think I’ll hold on to it.
Nothing shown in 2 years. Wouldn't be surprised if this gets cancelled completely
Cancelled without a doubt
Hopefully the game gets released. It's one of my most anticipated titles of the year. I've been saying for years that a Bully-style HP game would be cool. And they finally are working on one. Also, why do so many people think its getting cancelled? This is the one! not the 47 other delayed games in the past year, lol.
@BAMozzy You mean pre-lockdown conditions.
@isturbo1984 No, I mean pre-pandemic situations. Lockdown certainly had an impact but even without people being in 'enforced' lockdowns, the Pandemic is still impacting the world.
Whether its lost man hours due to staff being 'infected' and having to self-isolate for 'days' or lost man hours for family bereavements etc, difficulties surrounding social distancing, working from home etc etc. Just because 'lockdowns' may or may not be in place, the Pandemic is still having in an impact on the work place and the development of games.
Until things are 'back' to pre-pandemic situations, some studio's will not be back to 'full' speed. Losing some staff for a few days as they self-isolate and/or recover can hold up others further in the chain too.
Hope everything is ok with the dev team. Give them the time needed to make a classic rpg in this world.
@BAMozzy Except none of those have significantly impacted dev time. Mass layoffs and remote working due to forced lockdowns, has. Just callin it as I sees it.
This was my #1 anticipated release of this year, oops!
Not surprising, we haven't heard a peep about it. And no, it's not getting cancelled, you don't pay that kind of money for a license and then just release nothing. Even if they release CP2077 level garbage they have to make some money back.
My guess is this is either a 343i level cluster, or it's a CP77 /Metroid Prime 4, announced basically at the first draft, long before a date could even be determined, but they wanted to run the ad with the new gen launch and build hype. They were probably a year into dev when they announced it.
@NEStalgia Warner Bros. Entertainment own the film, TV, and Games-related rights to the franchise this game is not "licensed" in that sense its based in the wizarding world of Harry potter. It's an IP they are free to exploit. However I agree that the game isn't cancelled and was more then likely announced with them believing it would be finished by now plus the new console hype was to bug to piss with the Sony PS5 announcement showcase etc.
