One of the big talking points of the week in the world of PlayStation was the arrival of 2018's critically-acclaimed exclusive God of War on PC, and as you might expect, it also contains support for Xbox controllers.
The game is available to purchase now on Steam, and speaking to Game Informer, Senior Manager of Technical Production Matt DeWald confirmed the team put in extra work to make Xbox controllers enjoyable to use:
"[It's] awesome. We even put in all the glyphs for you so you don’t get confused by the button press. Yeah, we have no problems with that. You can even use a Switch controller here as well. You can definitely use any of the third-party controllers. We tried to add as many options as possible because why limit people who want to play the game?"
Much like Xbox Game Studios' range of PC releases in recent years, God of War has gone down an absolute treat on Steam so far, with the game having surpassed 65,000 concurrent players at the time of writing.
In contrast, Forza Horizon 5's all-time peak of concurrent players on Steam (not including Game Pass) is 81,096, while Halo Infinite's multiplayer is a whopping 272,586, so it'll be interesting to see how God of War stacks up in the long run.
Have you been playing God of War with an Xbox controller on Steam? Let us know in the comments.

Just curious, does halo infinite and forza horizon 5 on steam support playstation controllers natively
Also with horizon zero dawn being a hit on steam and now god of war I'd expect sony to bring the rest of the exclusives that have been out a while such as the last of us and uncharted etc
Its a crafty strategy, make their exclusives only on playstation consoles until the sales drop off then put it on steam/epic for a quick cash boost and boost player numbers.
Since I never owned a ps4 (ps3 was my last PlayStation) I might invest and give this a play through now. When I had a ps3 I had the god of war 1+2 combo and couldn’t get through it. But I know this one plays much more modern. I’m excited!
Very respectable comments
@uptownsoul they won't get haptic feedback on pc as they don't even have it for those games on playstation 5. I think if the game has it on playstation 5 before it comes to pc then it will have it.
I already played on Playstation so I'm good but I bet my brain would constantly get confused when I saw press X for anything on the screen! 😅
Anyway though hope the new players are enjoying it. It's a great game.
Part of me wants to get GoW on Steam just to play with an Xbox controller.
Then I remember that Jedi: Fallen Order doesn't work that well on my laptop and it seems like a waste to buy GoW.
Can you play GoW through geforce now? On the series x|s.
@IronMan30 DF did the test. Anything that is gtx1060 and above should be able to run it at acceptable image quality and frame rates. Alex said that the recommended specs were over estimated.
One of the greatest games ever created, happy more people are getting to experience it for the first time!
@IronMan30 it ran quite well on my pc & I only have a gtx 970 , 8gb ram & an Intel i5 2500k
I'm honestly surprised Sony didn't disable the usage of Xbox controllers for PC, requiring a work-around. I suppose if they had, "here's how" articles would be popping up everywhere.
@UltimateOtaku91 There were hapric Co trollers on the market before Sony ever did it. The Steam controller for example. Has better haptics than the PS5 controller as well IMO.
@UltimateOtaku91
The Nvidia GeForce Now leak had the following;
Everything has been correct from that leak so far, but obviously dates could have changed since that leak.
@blinx01 Link?
“why limit people who want to play the game?"
Now bring the game to xbox series and it will be awesome.
@UltimateOtaku91 Uncharted 4 & Lost Legacy are due out soon
@blinx01 Returnal goes to PC and my “games to get a PS5 for” list is now Astro’s Playroom.
@Ashadelo You're asking SONY to give up one of their great exclusives, they ain't gonna do that, nor will Microsoft do the same for HALO.
@uptownsoul I would like some decent haptics on more PS5 games first before implementing it on PC. I am on board with the PC ports don't get me wrong. I am not a PC player but I have the Series X and PS5 and think exclusives should be available wherever it makes business sense. More players the better. Sony are lacking getting the 'house in order' the UI is a mess and this 'upgrade' procedure is convoluted. I wish they would dedicated a team to that 😅
