No more waiting around! It's been six long years since the last mainline entry in the Halo series, but Halo Infinite has finally arrived today — and it's not just the multiplayer portion anymore, but the open world-style campaign as well.
You're looking at a download size of around 50GB for both, so it's not too bad, and it's even less if you've already installed the multiplayer beta. If you need any help during the campaign, we've also put together a massive range of Halo Infinite Guides to help you out with locations for audio logs, forerunner artifacts, skulls and much more.
In our review of Halo Infinite, we gave it an "excellent" 9/10 score, calling it "a slick shift into the open world arena that manages to strike a fine balance between the traditional narrative-driven Halo of old and all-new levels of freedom and emergent gameplay." But that's enough reading for now — it's time to start playing it with Xbox Game Pass!
When all hope is lost and humanity’s fate hangs in the balance, the Master Chief is ready to confront the most ruthless foe he’s ever faced. Step inside the armor of humanity’s greatest hero to experience an epic adventure and explore the massive scale of the Halo ring. To experience the campaign, purchase Halo Infinite (Campaign).

Hope not lot bugs in this early beta of the game.
Downloading! unfortunately network speed is definitely not optimal, getting 200 Mbps when I usually get close to 400 Mbps (understandably servers are swamped due to their stupid "no preload" decision)
Hmm no download has been triggered and when I click on campaign it just says pre order...edit* nvm I see it in updates now
My download, on Series S, is just over 2GB?
Edit: was just an update, had to go into the game campaign menu and initiate the download there!
@StylesT same here, if someone managed to fix this, please help us
Make sure on manage game, you select Campaign - otherwise you'll just get the update for the multiplayer portion!! Total size of the download on Series X is 25.86 GB including the multiplayer update and the campaign.
19 min to go!
@StylesT
UK same issue as you still waiting for download to appear.
Got it you have to go manage game, then updates.
What a rubbish way should be automatic
Severs seem to be getting nailed. Download is crawling between 15-40Mbps when it's usually 80-120 here.
Also then back into manage game and tick the box to install the campaign.
Once that is done it sort of added a then together to give me a total of 48.42gb downloading.
Remember I already have the multiplayer beta download.
What a ducking lot of ducking about that was.
If someone did this to me at work I would tell them to sort it out.
You all should get a 4GB update then after that is done you’ll need to go to “My games & apps” > “games” then over to the Halo Infinite press start, “Manage game and add-ons” then the 21.9GB campaign download should appear.
@Dezzy70 To be fair, games don't auto update half the time anyway. An issue that's been around since the original Xbox One launched.
I still have to update games manually despite using instant on.
Well done Microsoft will be playing the campaign by about Friday as my rubbish internet about 6mb/sec.
Think I shall turn on the PS5 and give spider man miles morales another chance 😂
@Alduin still nothing, the update doesn't trigger for me. I'll keep trying, thank for the tips folks
@Foxx_64740 campaign isn't an update, its dlc. the update you get is for MP. go manually download the campaign off the store or look at what can and can't be installed from managing the game in the games tab.
Download done here! Talk later guys!
@InterceptorAlpha
Normally for me it all works automatically like the farcry 6 and FH5 updates yesterday.
Also once the 4gb update started I had go back into game management and tick the campaign to get to join the update download.
I can see some young ones and poor dad or mum trying to mess around with this.
And I thought Sony had the awkward download issues. 😂
‘Smart’ delivery my sainted acorns. No updates showing as available through the Manage option, and if I try and access Campaign through the game it still comes up with the Pre-Order option.
Even the updates on my PS5 aren’t this convoluted.
EDIT - got it to download. This is my first Halo so maybe I’m missing something but the opening half hour or so is pretty unimpressive. Main character seemingly a bit of a charisma-vacuum. Wonder if I have to go back and play the others for context.
Whoa my download speed just went from 400 Mbps to absolutely nothing, the download is stuck on 56%. The broadband speed has just popped back up but it’s under 30 Mbps. Wow there must be loads of people downloading right now, not surprisingly.
Great to see everybody on here trying to help each other out. Great community spirit.
We will do your job for Microsoft, don’t worry 😉
@Dezzy70 @Alduin I've just restarted my console and now the update appeared! Downloading now! wooohoooo thank you guys, see you in zeta halo
@Microbius
Definitely Christmas feeling.
Trouble is I’m now 2 sleeps away until Christmas day.
Due to no pre download 😂🎄🎄🎄
@MaccaMUFC Unfortunately this is what happens when they release the game at the same time, world wide, instead of staggered, midnight, releases.
Heroic difficulty - let's go!
Dl went slow but then I closed all my games in the quick resume tab (including Halo). Now its running 125mbps and Im good to go in 17 minutes. ✌️
Also getting the Pre-order only option.
Restarting the console and going "Manage game and add-ons -> update" hasn't fixed it for me. Just getting an 'infinite' loading wheel, how droll.
What a palaver! It really shouldn't be this hard MS!
@themightyant open the game. Press campaign. Choose to download it from there. Then close the game.
@thenewguy Where's that option? I looked through the menus. it only has pre-order as far as I can see.
@thenewguy Scratch that. It finally came up with a "Halo needs an update" option. Thank you though, much appreciated!
@themightyant I managed to update by closing the game, fully restarting the console, then "My Games And Apps", "Manage", "Updates", and hit the box with the icon ⬇️. Then the halo box popped up with about 2.5GB, after that I've started the game and chose Campaign and the options to download appeared (about 20GB). Hope it works for you!
Complete Halo install guide.
1) Download Halo Infinite base game. approx. 25GB
2) Either go to "Manage game and add-ons -> update" OR
wait for it to auto-update. 4GB
3) Load the game and choose campaign. Download. 25GB
4) Quit/suspend the game, so downloads happen faster
5) While waiting accept the Xbox is now a PC
Baffled why this is so convoluted.
Says it will take 2.5 hours for me getting only 15mbps usually its 100+. This is obviously due to servers being under pressure
@themightyant
I got there in the end. Downloading now, might be playing by Friday 😆
Correct blows my mind why their biggest release of the year had to be so convoluted and no pre download. FH5 managed it easy.
@Dezzy70 Glad you got there! I have a very early start, so can't play too long either (who am I kidding). Enjoy Buddy. Happy gaming.
@Medic_Alert nice
@Chaudy No. It was the same for me until I closed Halo and all other games I had on my quick resume list. Then it popped up to 120-200 mbps.
@themightyant
Thank you, will be enjoying it as soon as it’s ready 😂
Since my series S is full up on storage I've gone down the streaming route which seems to have avoided a lot of hassle lol
@UltimateOtaku91 How's the streaming experience? Guessing you have excellent WiFi
@Chaudy it's ok it just depends on how popular the game is, I've been playing marvel avengers, back for blood and forza 5 via streaming and have been no problems what so ever even when I play gamepass on my tablet when my partner has the TV, but for halo infinites multiplayer there was a bit of lag and I had to wait in a queue to play the game.
@Chaudy also I have the last lowest virgin media package which gives me a stable 90-100 mbs
@UltimateOtaku91 ah nice, I have the same WiFi as you. Might try streaming a game at some point
Wow, it’s lots of fun. I want to savour it and not rush. I’ve been impressing myself by picking off some great long range shots. Then popped into multiplayer and trounced the opposition at Slayer. Happy, happy days 😀
@Dezzy70 Watching the Halo progress bar is more exciting than the open world of Miles Morales......
It's a fun game, worth playing....just....skip the boring open world and it'll seem fun
"I thought Sony had the awkward download issues."
Sony should just buy 343i. They like to buy studios that fit well in their culture and ecosystem, and I can't think of a better fitting studio than 343i!
@NEStalgia I’ve been waiting for Miles to go to like £15, even in the PS sales it’s still around £30 I think. Way too much for a glorified addon.
10 minutes until I can try Halo, I’ve been out all evening and it didn’t download while I was out smh. I went into the Gamepass app and started the campaign download, not exactly straight forward but this is 343 we’re talking about and they can’t do anything properly usually.
@NEStalgia
You so harsh 😂
Anyway download going well should be playing by Thursday now so that’s good. 😊
@Fenbops I think Sony is over with the race to the bottom pricing unfortunately. By the time it would drop to that price they'll be removing the stand alone version from the store and selling it only as Spiderverse Webhead Edition with Spidey, miles, and spidey2 bundled for 120. It's a bargain! 🙄
Unless their game pass competitor is actually good... One can dream...
It amazes me how Microsoft's biggest, best funded studio in charge of their top IP can't do game pass right, while Bethesda was doing game pass right years before they were even part of the company.... Playground could do it. Sqeenix can do it. Even with avengers that did nothing else right. Croteam can do it. Double fine did it. 343 even had an extra whole year and still managed to release 75% of the game, confusing and last minute... 😂
@Dezzy70 I just tell it like it is
Opted to stream it for the first while and then downloaded it over night when I finished. Played great on the cloud.
