The Harry Potter game Hogwarts Legacy got delayed at the very beginning of this year, and since then we've heard little to nothing about the upcoming project scheduled to arrive in 2022.
Until now. In a new post on Twitter, the development team at Avalanche has reassured fans updates are on the way - with the team excited to share "more news" about it next year.
While some fans are feeling a bit underwhelmed by this latest update, others are hopeful the team will be sharing more about this upcoming release earlier in 2022 rather than later. And if the game is still targeting 2022, it's going to have to receive a proper reveal at some point.
According to previous descriptions, this upcoming release will be an "immersive, open-world RPG" — allowing players to embark on an adventure through both familiar and new locations. To top it off, it's coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S.

Hogwarts Legacy does not exist in a vacuum. There are important discussions being had about the views and opinions held by the creator of the Harry Potter universe – views and opinions which we do not agree with.
Our goal is to create and foster a positive environment for people – all people – to discuss and celebrate video games, not to amplify ignorance or provide a forum for unconstructive arguments. As per our community rules, we do not accept any form of hate speech on our platform.
My most anticipated game for next year, I hope it lives up to the expectations.
Is it expected to be more or less the same on XSX and PS5?
@TryToBeHopeful yeah I don’t know why it wouldn’t be.
This feels like a 2023 game but definitely my most anticipated alongside Starfield
After all the comments the author's made over the past few years I'm staying clear of this whole franchise. She's not going to get any of my money.
I hope its good. My wife played the hell out of one of them on 360 and I know she'd be all over this as long as the gameplay isn't too complex. I'm looking forward to it.
Certainly looked interesting and a game on my Radar. I'm not the biggest Harry Potter fan but the game looked interesting without the 'Hogwarts' setting adding to the experience.
Hope it's great. I'd really enjoy a quality Harry Potter game.
@PhileasFragg Nothing she said is wrong at the end of the day, at least to what your refrencing. But like it's been said, she isn't attatched to this game at all so your just holding back for nothing. I'm sure the game will turn out great, I have many Potter friends that are looking forward to this one and I have to say, I'm intrigued as well!
@Pichuka97 Yeah going to have to disagree whole heartedly with that. She’s problematic at best and has spread unending misery.
@Xiovanni She may not have anything to do with the game's development (in the same way she doesn't get a say in what flavours they put into "Harry Potter Every Flavour Beans TM"). Though at the end of the day she gets her share of the licensing money, and the longer that franchise is strung along she gets press attention.
This game sounds great, hopefully it delivers.
@JaneBear "spread unending misery" might be a stretch. She has an opinion that a lot of people disagree with. You make it sound like she is on par with Hitler or Castro.
@Somebody Insinuating that I’ve compared her to Hitler or Castro is the stretch here. Just because the misery doesn’t touch your life doesn’t mean it isn’t ever present and unrelenting for her victims.
@JaneBear "her victims" is another stretch but you are correct there is no opinion that she or anyone can express that would cause me actual misery.
@Somebody Well, the good news is that the people affected by the way she has pivoted her money, influence, and fame do not need your approval to feel any specific way about her actions and can define their experience however they deem appropriate considering that it is their lived experience and not yours. Your definition of what is a “stretch” is narrow at best and irrelevant when stacked against the truth of their experiences.
As far as no one and their opinions being able to cause you misery, that is wonderful for you. I’m glad for you that your experience has not left you feeling the way other people do. If what you say is true, I encourage you to be thankful for it.
@JaneBear it doesnt seem like something I need to be thankful for. It's a tweet from one person, one out of 8 billion.
We do live in a world where governments, religions, cultures still exist that are prosecuting LGBT members. A popular author having an unpopular opinion is such a small thing. People should feel free to boycott the franchise if they want, I would never say otherwise. Likewise people should be able to continue to enjoy the Harry Potter universe if they choose. I just disagree with the assessment that her tweets caused "unending misery" in the world. It was mild disappointment at best.
@Somebody Respectfully, I disagree and do not imply that queer people are “the world”. She is a powerful source that fuels the abusive fire of the governments, religions, and cultures that you’re referencing. I’ll stop here because I don’t see our perspectives aligning or even needing to, but I will say that I truly wish I shared your perspective that her influence is as simple as “one in eight billion”.
Sincerely, I do appreciate that we’ve been able to have the conversation without swearing, insults, etc. That was actually very refreshing and welcomed. Be well.
