It was reported earlier today that Xbox had some "intriguing" news to share about Cloud Gaming this week, and it looks like it's been revealed in the form of a new Clarity Boost feature on the Microsoft Edge browser.
This feature allows you to improve the visual quality of the stream when playing through a browser, and will be available to all Microsoft Edge users by next year. You can also try it today with the following instructions:
- To confirm you are in Microsoft Edge Canary, navigate to edge://settings/help to make sure you are on version 96.0.1033.0 or later.
- To enable Clarity Boost, go to www.xbox.com/play, login and start a game
- Open the more actions (…) menu
- Select Enable Clarity Boost option.
Here's what Microsoft has to say about Clarity Boost and how it works:
"Today, we are excited to invite you to experience Clarity Boost, one of the latest cloud gaming optimizations available on Microsoft Edge Canary. This feature uses a set of client-side scaling improvements to improve the visual quality of the video stream."
For more details on Clarity Boost, the Xbox Insider Reddit also has various additional information.

Well, that’s a bummer. Was hoping for something more exciting like PC GamePass streaming.
Being able to stream on console is so good that I didn't think I'd ever go back to browser streaming. I'll have to check this out though.
@Turnip_Knight Really? When I stream on my console the games look degraded and you can clearly tell the graphics are lowered. The games to me look as though there in 720p or something.
Corporate needs you to identify the difference between this picture & this picture
So how does this work exactly? All my steaming is to my phone through the Xbox app. Is this suggesting I'll have to download edge on my phone to be able to do this?
@Snake_V5 Yeah, with my XSX down, and before I got the S as a backup/stopgap I was using streaming for FH5 on my X1X as soon as it came out on console (I already used it a lot on PC, first Edge, and then the app when it came out on a Surface Pro. The console streaming impressed me by basically feeling zero latecny and effectively as fast as native play, with a lot less weird hiccups. BUT the catch was. the video, especially a fast game like Forza, was kinda rough. Lots of temporal artifacting and basically blurry detail. Tons of obvious compression. If this works and can come to console and the native PC app, it's less about "wow new enhancement!" and more about "they finally fixed the bad video!"
