We've seen some crazy marketing stunts in our time, but this one just takes the biscuit. To celebrate the launch of Forza Horizon 5, the Xbox team took it upon themselves to genuinely drop a car from the sky and then take it for a spin.
If you're unaware, the opening of Forza Horizon 5 has you dropping out of various planes in an assortment of vehicles. Testing to see whether that theory is plausible, Xbox has gone all Fast & Furious and managed the impossible.
Released from a whopping 4,500ft, the buggy propels downwards where we get both an interior and exterior view of it in action. A motorist also jumps from the plane, before landing on the ground and taking the buggy out for a Sunday drive across the dry terrain. Oh, and a beautiful pink mist is pouring out the back of it.
The whole stunt could have been a recipe for disaster, but luckily, everything turned out alright in the end.
Maybe don't try this one at home, eh kids?

This game is very addictive, Its so much fun. I'm nearly 7 hours in and I've barely played the campaign, there's so much to do.
"Yeeted"
I can tell im old, because I don't know what that means, nor do I care to find out.
@PhhhCough Either that or you're just not a Ubisoft writer. It's just so fleek.
@Zag_Man As compared to the helicopters that hover over every intersection in America all day every day just to point a camera at the intersection (that's gridlocked all day every day) to show people that it's gridlocked on the TV news?
What exactly does "yeet" mean?
@Zag_Man Hah, if it were up to me I'd melt all cars and aircraft to molten slag. And I'm not even a "greenie"....cars worked when one male per household had a car and the population was spread out and distant and small. They don't work in 2021, really at all. And aircraft........ from noise pollution to actual pollution to endless airport expansion, to the fact that they're technically the cause of the pandemic to begin with.....and everyone wants to just jump right back to them....ugh!
Much as I like Flight Sim and Forza, those things should stay in video games like demons and zombies, not in the real world
But if the world's gong to double down on that junk, a lonely chopper in a desert for a PR stunt is like like the tiniest of all offenses. At least it can bring a moment of joy to millions instead of a luxury vacation/business meeting for a few dozen...
With China just reopening a ridiculous amount of coal fired power stations to pump crap into the atmosphere, I think this PR stunt is a tiny drop in the ocean when it comes to destroying our planet.
@Scooby-Doo @PhhhCough
Well don't feel bad yeeted is an actually older word. And the writer of this article didn't even use it right.
As the word yeeted means to throw with force.. which this is more of just dropped not yeeted.
And I hate that I am saying this as I am usually the one rolling my eyes when someone corrects people's use of words
@Terrin
rolls my eyes
@SplooshDmg just think, if the parents won, we wouldn't be stuck with gtav topping the charts 3 generations running. #HelpFightGTA
Lol, sweet! Now Nintendo needs to yeet Kart when they release the next Mario Kart! Nintendo, the gauntlet has been cast!
@RedKnight34 I deserve that and more lol
WOW! The opening segment of fh5, where the cars are dropping out of the cargo planes is jaw dropping! Game is pretty as hell. If you loved the previous horizon games, you'll love this one. If you're a bit tired, then check out rift breaker. It's diablo meets starcraft. Or the darkness games are on sale. Fps max payne.
On the one hand this IS pretty cool.
On the other maybe not great optics right now with COP26 etc.
@Zag_Man In reality this probably has a much smaller Carbon Footprint than flying celebs, execs around to large launch events and all the other people travelling to them.
Not saying two wrongs make a right, but marketing products is needed in current capitalist society.
@Zag_Man I agree on both counts.
Though this is specifically Playground Games and Forza Horizon. A car racing franchise celebrating gas guzzling monsters and flying thousands of rich folk to exotic places in the world for a Festival worshiping them! I'm not sure Green was ever the order of the day here.
Was surprised by the lack of EV to be honest. Not sure if they don't want to be associated or what. Largest growing car sector yet hardly represented.
@Xiovanni Yes that's exactly what I said.
Oh wait, no it isn't.
At first I started playing the game and was like ok, this looks good. A bit better than FH4. Then I started driving around the map and it was mind blowing. The vastness, the amount of detail, the lighting, attention to details, and damn these guys are good at making stone and rock formations. It always irks me when I play a game and the rocks look like garbage, or they look procedural. So much love was put into this game. I spent hours last night just driving around taking screenshots. I haven't even played the game yet. Just drove around enjoying the scenery. The only small gripe I have is that I think the clouds move a bit too fast compared to real life.
